More About Me
Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
I'm vegan for the animals. I have been for 8 years and it's the best decision I ever made. And because vegan food tastes so good! I'm lucky enough to live in Bristol where we have loads of activism going on and well as opportunities for finding delicious food.
I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
I always check Happy Cow when travelling to new cities, which hasn't been loads recently, but hey. I love that it's listings are padded out by veg*ns who have actually checked places out. It's only recently that I've really got to grips with online communities (starting my own vegan business meant it was time to plug in!) and realised that you can have a whole profile here.
Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:
My second home in Bristol is Cafe Kino - a wonderful co operative serving comforting vegan food and really good coffee. I have been going for years! I also love Cafe Maitreya in Bristol and am lucky enough to live really close by. The atmosphere of the restaurant is always cosy and the food is really excellent - I take all my friends there.
Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:
Donuts. Well I make them for a living so I gotta say that! I think it's just that after craving a good vegan donut for about 5 years I can't get enough of them. I love spices, chipotles, creamy cashew sauces, kale, sage pesto, tempeh, PICKLES, fresh bread. Raw is something I want more of in my life - zoodles, raw cheesecakes, I make a mean raw moroccan style salad!
Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
Any recipe book by Isa Chandra Moskowitz from the Post Punk Kitchen is good. READ MORE VEGAN ZINES! Support these small publications, start by checking out Reap What You Sow: a zine based in the U.K bringing together people, vegan recipes and compassionate artists. Defiant Daughters: Women on Art, Activism, Animals, and the Sexual Politics of Meat by Carol J. Adams.
