More About Me
Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
I have been a vegetarian for 10 years. However I was in transition since the time I was 14 years old when I first started to cut out animal products. I started changing my eating habits at the age of 14 when I had an abnormal LDL cholesterol test. I was very slim but I couldn't understand how I still had high unhealthy cholesterol. My parents are reliant on medications to control their cholesterol levels and there is a history of heart attack and stroke in my family. My family eat some kind of meat/ animal product, 7 days a week and for every meal. I decided to change my eating habits at that time as I knew that the younger I made these changes, the better. Since I became a vegetarian I have had normal HDL/LDL levels and do not suffer from the same issues that my meat eating family has. When I became more knowledgeable as a vegetarian then my motivation extended from health/diet to animal rights and environmental issues.
I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
I Love Happy Cow. I live abroad (I am originally from Western Canada), so when I travel I always check Happy Cow to find out what is available for vegetarians/vegans. As I live in a very conservative Eastern European country that does not have many eating options for non meat eaters, I add all veggie-friendly businesses in my community to the registry to assist other vegetarians living here and encourage vegan/vegetarian travelers to visit. This also supports the business owners here to continue to run their veggie friendly restaurants and shops despite the fact that they are not popular with the locals.
Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:
I love Bangkok, I was there for 2 months this year and thought it was an amazing city. Croatia has a incredible coastline, a great place to relax. Of course, Bosnia & Hercegovina, home for the past 3 years. This country continues to amaze me with its people and places. My time here has impacted me for the rest of my life. I would love to visit India and Nepal someday.

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
My favorite movie of all time is "The Goonies." My sister and I can quote this movie for hours. My favorite book would have to be anything by Roald Dahl or Paulo Coelho. My favorite cookbooks are anything by fellow Canadians: Sarah Kramer and Tanya Barnard, especially Sarah Kramer's La Dolce Vegan. I have these cookbooks with me all the time as most the ingrediants can be found anywhere. Even my local carnivore friends enjoy their recipes!
