Hello, Am curious to know if any HappyCow site visitor practices yoga.

If you do, what has your experience been like?
What insights have you gained if any?
Any tips for aspiring yogis?

    Hi! :)
    I am JUST getting interested in yoga. I am doing a little research on the different kinds of yoga, the different ways people practice it, so that I can decide which tradition is best for me.
    Have you found any good sites to read up on Yoga? I wish I could say more but I'm so new to this that I'm just taking everything in!

    Sorry, this message is late. I have had good results in doing yoga and making a transition from meat eater to vegitarian to vegan to raw foodist. for me it was like a "mental flush" i really had to redefine all my relationships i had with food, family and people in other words what made me hungry. yoga, Hatha Yoga, helped me slow down, rethink and accept my new way of life. Hatha is a great way to detox, hot yoga. i believe that any form of exercise-mediation tradition, like tia chi is great to bring body, mind and spirit together. Good Luck!

    yes feels great inside out. Im a martial arts instructor(muay thai) but yoga gave me a new found strength

    Hi Chia! Over the past couple of years I've dabbled with Yoga and Pilates. The first time I did it was in college for a required gym class… I work in the corporate office of my company and we have a large gym here with free classes, I used to take Yoga and Pilates quite often [with that said, I'm not sure if they tone down the classes for corporate gyms]. I will mention that I feel like I get more of a workout from Pilates, but I'm sure it varies from instructor to instructor [as far as Yoga and Pilates goes]. Furthermore, I suggest taking a class that's at least an hour long or more…

    I really enjoy all of the complex "poses" and if you find a good class that really challenges you, I think that would benefit you a lot; both physically and mentally. It's tough when your doing it, but when you're done, you're relaxed inside and out.

    I agree with SynthEBM, taking a class is a marvelous way to reap the benefits of yoga and a great intro as well. There are many types of yoga which can make it kind of confusing, but the teachers I've had use sort of a "flow" yoga, meaning each pose goes into the next one with fluidity.

    Tried yoga long ago and loved it. But now am having a hard time getting back into it... soon, I will.

    Yoga was one the best things that ever happened for me. ever.

    Anyone who is interested should just go for it.

    I've been doing yoga since fourth grade! I'm now in my 40s and still practice. I'm just not myself if I don't start my morning with some yoga. Even during my 20s, when like a lot of 20-somethings, I partied, I still made it a point to get up early to do yoga the next day.

    I attribute much of my good health to yoga.

    Also, for the first time this year, I started taking classes with a group. It's so lovely to watch others practice the position. Everyone looks so calm, peaceful and beautiful.

    Yoga relaxes you and energizes you at the same time.

    I love it :)

    Yoga is AMAZING!!!
    It's never a chore to go to a yoga class (unlike a work out).
    I prefer Hatha yoga, it suits me better and my teacher includes chakra meditations too - which is awesome.

    i was practice tantra meditation since 1991..travell to India few times...if you can do deep meditation your life can change very fast but also if you stop your life can be hard as hell, spiritual path need determination and discipline to be success with great result they way you see the world around you

    I do pilates and yoga eveyday. Pilates is really good for abs. I just do basic yoga stretches that I found in some magazines since I have very little flexibility.

    I've been doing yoga for several months now. Through this practice my life totally changed and now I realized my true purpose in this world that is to love and serve god:)

    so for those who are interested in doing yoga then go for it and start your self realisation and you will find out your true happiness.

    I suggest you start with Hatha yoga.
    Just remember the true meaning of yoga that is Union with god

    Yoga is a wonderful way to get connected to your own body, mind, and spirit. If you are open to it, you'll find that its so much more than asana practice - the best bits are to be found "off the mat."

    Yoga has been a big part of my life for nine years. In fact, the yogic principle of ahimsa (non-harming) is the reason I became a vegetarian in the first place. The rest of the yamas and niyamas are a wonderful guide for living in harmony with all living beings.

    Took yoga as a requirement in school a couple of years ago. We would do close to an hour every class...4 times a week! I loved how it made me feel more balanced, and calmer.

    I do it on my own now...but I have a bit of trouble keeping it in a schedule.

    hah!yeh I swear by Yoga, Deep Breathing , Meditation, and Reiki! All are great for me , i follow swami ramdevs teaching for pranayama you can google him. meditation and reiki brings about a sense of deep inner peace although it can be very expensive with some practitioners. Deep breathing is simply miraculous watch this video it teaches you what to do. This technique has changed many peoples life and also great for asthma depression and insomnia etc well better than going on conventional medication with side effects, right? I have found ayurvedic medicine to be good for many things too Ayurveda utilizes the combination of essential principles of nature, to help keep good health in a person by maintaining body, mind and spirit in complete balance with nature.     I am also working for getting thin ,so now a days I am working under a Yoga in Mississauga, but I was thinking of dieting also..
