| All Vegetarians! Let us unite I am Uday from India. 55 years male. I am an atheist and believe that religions are responsible for sustaining ideological support for atrocities against innocent animals. They are responsible for many other evils like population explosion. I love working for promoting vegetarianism and working for secularism. I have formed a small organization called FAIR ( http//fairworldwide.tk ) to do as much as I can, in supporting these causes. You are welcome to join us. Being an Indian it easy for me to be a vegetarian. There are more Vegetarian hotels and recipes in India than the non-vegetarian ones. Much tastier than any non-vegetarian recipe. I know, that is not the case outside India. I think I can help vegetarians who live outside India. I am a vegetarian cook. I can help any of you to cook vegetarian dishes as well. Please ask me if you need help. This is Ramzan season. It is a deeply distressing time of the year; because so many innocent animals are being butchered with no qualms. That too in a barbaric and cruel method called Halal. Feeling so helpless. We, vegetarians are just a minority. We can do very little against these blood thirsty people. They start Halal with animals and then progress it to human beings as they did with Daniel Pearl and many others; in the name of god. All the more reason why there must be a closer association between all vegetarian people from all over the world; so that we can wean away more people to kindness and compassion than standing alone. Moreover, we can help ourselves in many ways by supporting each other. Please keep in touch Thank you. Post Date: 08/18/12, Replies: 5 | ||

| Alternatives to sushi Hi, My name is Sigmund and I have been living in Japan for the last 2 months. I am vegetarian but I love the idea of sushi. Japan is a pretty tough place to be a veggie, so I'm wondering if it is ok to eat the occaisional bit of salmon or something just to tide me by. Any veggie alternatives to sushi toppings would be awesome. I saw whale on sale the other day. It looked gross. Post Date: 07/01/10, Replies: 3 | ||
| Am i Doing Something Wrong? Went Vegan 10 days ago and also started working out and running 8 weeks ago; averaging about 9 miles total a week along with some calisthenics and stretching. Only backslid about 5 times by eating 2 eggs, fist full of cheese, but no meats whatsoever. As of today, haven't lost a single pound. Did I perhaps lose 2 lbs but put on 2 lbs of muscle? Still looks like I should have lost 5 lbs at least. Staying with it. Am i doing something wrong?? Post Date: 04/26/16, Replies: 7 | ||

| America's First Veggie Pride Parade, Ever! In New York City on May 18, 2008 (a Sunday), we will have the Veggie Pride Parade (VPP 2008) in Greenwich Village, where we'll march in costumes (or plainclothes) and end with a festival in Washington Square Park. Live musical performance and tables representing the best veg*n restaurants in New York will be there, and the parade organizers are trying to help veg*ns who'd like to visit New York to march in the parade, to find accommodation. See the VPP Web site, veggieprideparade.org/ and look for the Bulletin Board to find the Housing Forum. VPP 2008 has been arranged by VivaVegie Society and Pamela Rice. Why not join us in New York? | An Article to Persuade Non-Veg Friends Hello everyone! I came across this TIME Magazine article and was surprised when I read its last few paragraphs, which subtly promote vegetarianism/veganism. I thought that it was a very interesting article to share with friends, especially those who eat meat. time.com/4443060/humans-early-tools/?xid=newsletter-brief"]time.com/4443060/humans-early-tools/?xid=newsletter-brief Post Date: 08/13/16, Replies: 1 | ||

| An urban "Farm Animal Sanctuary" version o So here's an idea that could help wake tons of people up to caring about farm animals, and hopefully caring about them enough to stop eating them (or their eggs/dairy). OK, so have you heard of the best place in the world? Well, one of the best places in the world. Here it is! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uIRH3Prib0 It's a cat cafe in South Korea! You go there, hang out with cats, and you can buy snacks/drinks for yourself, and buy snacks to feed the kitties! There's also a dog cafe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw9BiYUPKBs Wouldn't it be great if someone (you?) opened a vegan cafe/bakery like this in an urban area, except with with mini pigs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_4XWcDSR8w), pygmy goats (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3fxgi7F_qI), and chickens (you know what they look like!)? One of the great thing about farm sanctuaries is they show people that the animals that humans exploit/imprison for food are sentient creatures, with a full range of emotions, and very loveable. But because they're in rural areas, most people don't get to visit them (or even hear they exist). But a bakery/cafe like this would allow them to fall in love with pigs and goats - and at the same time eat delicious vegan treats/food. At the same time, they will be eating the delicious vegan baked goodies and/or meals the cafe sells and realizing vegan food can be delicious. I think a place like this would have the power to change a lot of people! There's two concerns to consider, though. one is hygiene. cats go pee/poo in litter boxes (which I assume they put in a back room) and dogs can be trained to ask to go outside. What about these animals? Pigs can be trained like dogs are, so they're no problem. Pygmy goats can be trained to pee outside but they drop their little poos everywhere. Chickens can't be trained to do their 'business' any particular place. But apparently both pygmy goats and chickens can wear diapers! LOL! (Check out pictures in links) www.mypetchicken.com/catalog/Diapers-and-Saddles/Chicken-Diaper-Free-shipping-p494.aspx m.b5z.net/i/u/10073043/i//felicias_diaper.bmp The next concern is the animals. Whoever ran this cafe would have to be able to take care of them and provide them with a good living environment. Having only two of each animal would make that easier. and I think they'd be very happy in a cafe where every human wanted to feed and pet them. So if you think this is a good idea, you should definitely give it serious consideration! What do you think? Thanks for listening! BEST WISHES to you for 2014 and beyond! | Anemia I returned to being vegetarian earlier this year, thank goodness. However, it seems I am having trouble balancing my nutrients. I'm pretty sure I'm suffering from low iron levels now. Tired, cold intolerance, difficulty concentrating, leg cramps, insomnia, etc. Kinda seemed to be triggered when I donated blood last. I did just buy a liquid iron with B vitamins supplement .. it seems to cause heart burn tho. Suggestions on how to reverse this iron dilemma and prevent it from recurring? (p.s. I absolutely refuse to eat meat as a solution) Thanks so much Post Date: 12/30/12, Replies: 4 | ||

I'm also making shirts with environmental and anti-war designs. Some of the slogans include a silhouette of a cow and the words ‘vegan for life' on top of the cow, there's another shirt that says ‘the circus is hell for the animals' and there's a more hard-hitting shirt with a silhouette of a cow and blood dripping from the cow with the words ‘meat means murder' To order a shirt, or see some pics of the designs, go to www.soulsleeves.webs.com Post Date: 03/03/09, Replies: 0 | ||

| anti-veggie intro ;) hi! i have been interested in vegetarianism for years, but lazily so. until recently, it was a matter of my affection for animals, but at the dinner table, i sucked it up and pretended my steak was a mushroom. more recently, my interest has turned more global, to sustainability, economy, and conservation, and i am trying harder than ever to remove meat as the staple of my diet to an occasional indulging, to humoring relatives who fix it, to not consuming it at all. i am inspired my online friends who have no yard for their own veggie garden, but retired coffee tins and trash cans make perfectly suitable homes for their roots, and weekly trips to the farmers market are just a bikeride away. i have a yard, but the dog digs up the garden, and funds are low in terms of fencing, and i live in the land of "convenience," walmarts and winn dixies rather than local markets with fresh, non-waxed, non-pesticide-treated veggies. and worst of all, everything i know is meat. i am surrounded by meat. ALL of my recipes are meat-infested, and they are my husband's mother's and grandmothers, the stuff he was raised on and refuses to give up- please, good meat substitute suggestions are more than welcome. when he started dieting, he noticed i was substituting turkey for beef, and initially hated it, but now prefers it, or at least doesn't mind it. so i'm hoping to find a similar reaction. but, my daughter's eczema flared badly after trying a soy-laden product...so soy is out. there is not a soul near me who is interested in eating non-meat...including myself, sorta. i was the kid who NEVER ate the veggies- mashed potatoes was about as close as i ever got, and they'd better be slimed up real good with gravy. but i have been able to wean myself, and more impressively, my family (3 young'uns who once LOVED mcd's) from fast food altogether. it went from being convenient, to an occasional craving, to, good god that's disgusting, why and how did we EVER eat it!! so i thought i could shift us to veggies in a similar way. but i am utterly clueless as to how to get going- i don't know how to or am too lazy to figure out this whole "veggie storage" thing- meat? i pop it in the freezer till ready to use, and i know just how long it will stay "fresh," not rotten. my veggies usually go by the wayside before we have a chance with them, often puzzling me, since the story is usually, jeez, i just bought them two days ago. and...again, i hate veggies. i tell myself when i go to bed at night, okay, you're going to eat fruit for breakfast, nuts for a mid morning snack, beans for lunch, more nuts later, and lots of veggies for supper...but i wake up, and it's groundhogs day...the same as yesterday. every day. i just can't make myself want to eat veggies... but i'm trying! | Any Advice Becoming vegetarian was much easier than I had expected and transitioning to vegan has been even easier. I don't have any nutritional issues. I work out 6 days/week and have never felt better. My only problem is that I live in an area not very receptive to my changes. I do not force my beliefs on others, but they notice the change in my diet. They have a very hard time accepting my choice, but when they find out why (ethics and environment) it becomes almost unbearable. It has gotten to the point that I don't enjoy eating out with them, and my phone is inundated with crap. Any advice on getting them to back off. Post Date: 02/10/14, Replies: 14 | ||
| Any Runners or Aspiring Runners Out There Hi All, I am seeking any and all vegan/vegetarian athletes out there who are ready to pound some pavement to raise awareness of the benefits of a plant-based diet! A little crew of veggie distance runners has been brainstorming about how we could combine our love of running with our love of animals and a compassionate lifestyle. We think we've figured out a way, and we are hoping to recruit more to join us! We are launching a national network of runners called The Mighty Vegans, and we will be running the Las Vegas Marathon on December 6, 2009, using it as an opportunity to raise awareness of veganism (and vegetarianism---vegetarians are welcome too!). We will all train on our own and then descend en masse on to the Strip to strut our stuff decked out in message gear and spread the word! What better way to dispel the myths that a vegan diet is unhealthy and that a vegan lifestyle is one of deprivation, than to prove that you can indeed, complete a full 26.2 mile marathon powered by plants and toughened up by tofu?! Believe me, I am no elite athlete. I have two marathons under my belt but am definitely not about to set any records! (Honestly, I'm pretty slow!) I completely understand that running a marathon seems totally insane…and in some ways it is! But if you choose and stick to the right training program, use a slow pace and take lots of nice easy walk breaks, you would be surprised at what you can do! And the goal here is to finish! I'm also very certain there are many more experienced marathoners out there in the veggie universe, so why not log those miles with the goal of joining us for the Las Vegas Marathon on 2009? The success of The Mighty Vegans will really depend on how many people we can get to join. The goal is to make an impact, and if there are enough of us peppered throughout the course running along in our message gear, there is no way any fellow runners or spectators could miss us. Please email us at [email protected] if you are interested in joining us in Las Vegas in December. If you've ever had the slightest teeniest inkling that running a marathon is something you'd like to cross off your list, this is the time to do it!!! Cheers, Liz Post Date: 08/02/09, Replies: 2 | ||
| Any tips on telling parents ? I've been a vegetarian since Jan 7 the thing is my mom doesn't know yet. I've had the hardest time telling her because she already thinks I don't eat much or healthy at all. Which isn't true. Plus I just don't think she would be supportive or understand. I tried two days ago telling her, but I just didn't. How did you tell your parents? Any tips? I want her to already know already. Post Date: 02/28/08, Replies: 10 | ||

| any vegetarian kids? hi everyone- i am a vegetarian grandma and both my grand-daughters are veggie too. their mom and uncle (in the same house) are meat eaters. my one grand daughter is 7 and never liked meat even as an infant. about 3 months ago we started dealing with non-custodial father visitation and an angry father who says we shouldn't be telling her what she can and can not eat. she has been veggie all her life and i wondered about other families with veggie kids and if all the family is veg. or how the decision was made when the kids were young. any thoughts would be welcome. thankx mumbee Post Date: 11/19/09, Replies: 5 | ||

| Anyone seeking NJ vegan home/kitchen? We are moving from our NJ home. WE fixed it up pretty and kept it vegan the entire time we were here, including international guests. I know it is a plus when seeking a home to feel like a home is clean, not just physically but in spirit as well. As such, I figured I'd post my FSBO here. It is a condo in Robbinsville, NJ, just off 7A on the tpke. Curious? http://www.myspace.com/foxmoor_condo_fsbo Its been fun be we hear the West calling us again. There is also a great whole Foods by us one can get to via back-roads. I can give the lowdown on the vegan circuit in the area. Let me know, peace Post Date: 03/05/08, Replies: 0 |
