Are you Vegan Sexual? Well, I've started yet another documentary. This one is on Vegansexuals. It would be great to get some feedback. I've already begun some on-camera interviews. What would you not do with someone who is not vegetarian or vegan? Would you not date him or her? Would you not kiss him or her? Would you not have sex with him or her? Would you not do anything sexual with them? (I won't get graphic here in case minors or victorian school teachers are lurking) If you met someone you like, but they are not vegetarian or vegan, how would you let them know how you are, and what options would you offer them if the relationship is to progress? Oh, and what are your thoughts on using --- or not using --- vegan sex toys? Do you have any stories to share about finding yourself in any of the above situations, and any advice on how others should handle them? If anyone is willing to appear on camera for this documentary, please let me know. Post Date: 09/27/10, Replies: 18
How often do you cheat? I am new to this forgive me. I am trying to eat no animal products and avoid gluten. When I have control over my schedule and situation this is not difficult. I cheat sometimes, usually in social gatherings (like birthday parties). Nobody wants to be "that guy" that spoils a birthday party by saying "no dude I don't want to celebrate with you by eating animals, by the way happy birthday." How often do you cheat? Do you feel bad? Is there forgiveness? How do you change? How do you deal with social pressure? Post Date: 02/13/14, Replies: 18
Vegetarian wedding: people are disapponted I'm getting married in a few weeks and while I am super excited to be marrying the lad of my life, there is a small issue that keeps rearing its ugly head: the wedding menu. I've been vegetarian for 13 years. Plenty of time for everyone around me to get used to it. But as we were planning, a startling number of people (my parents included) started remarking on how they would never want to go to a vegetarian wedding and that it's unfair of me to pressure my guests into eating like I do. After all, don't I always get a vegetarian option?? My answer was yes, I get a vegetarian option. That option is ALWAYS an after thought. It's usually white flour pasta which I don't eat anyway. Pair that with the fact that I can eat almost nothing at the cocktail hour, and you've got one hungry guest. I find it hurtful that people including my family, are saying this. Why can't they come to the wedding for the real reason? The love that my fiancé and I have for each other. I never go to a wedding expecting any of my food preferences to be represented. I go to celebrate the couple. Does anyone have any advice on how to respond to these things? I've been sticking to my guns and saying that there will be plenty of amazing things for them to eat, and then I change the subject. Is there a way to make them stop voicing this very rude opinion? Need help cutting out dairy Hi everyone! I'm currently a lacto-ovo vegetarian, however I wish to go a step further. I was shocked when I read a previous topic on how dairy products affect cattle and I would like to give them up altogether. As I'm from Australia, the products mentioned by members from the US and UK aren't really available here. Are there any good milk/cheese/yogurt alternatives out there in Aussie supermarkets? Also, I wish to keep eating eggs (free range only) and was wondering if there were any ethical issues relating to the treatment of hens that I should be aware of. Post Date: 10/29/10, Replies: 17
The Reluctant Vegan: An Attempt to Switch Hello everyone! I am extremely new to the vegan side of the spectrum, and I was hoping for some advice from anyone who has anything to contribute! I have been a vegetarian for around a decade, but I recently saw a Functional Medicine Specialist who determined that I actually have intolerance to both dairy products and eggs (and that's why I've been feeling so awful all the time). So, I'm no longer eating dairy, eggs, or meat. Not really out of choice for the two former. I'm a little wary about how this will go. I have several friends who are at varying levels of flexibility with their veganism, and I've been asking about their experiences and suggestions, but honestly, ANY advice or wisdom would be helpful. So, I pose the question to you, whether you're a "Reluctant Vegan" like myself or not: Is there any way in which I can make this transition go more smoothly? Thank you for your help!! New vegan questions Hi - I've been vegetarian for a year and recently have given up cheese and eggs. I also no longer buy animal products. Here is my first question-- Can I call myslf vegan even though I still own leather boots and my 6 month old car has leather seats? Thanks, Dave Strickland Post Date: 04/02/14, Replies: 17
Help Please I have recently become a vegan and I have to go out of town to visit my husbands family this weekend. I know the topic of why I don't eat animals or their by-products is going to come up, but they just don't listen when I tell them I can get all the nutrition I need from other foods. Does anyone have any personal experience to help neturalize the situation? Post Date: 08/01/08, Replies: 16

Ideas for a new vegetarian restaurant. I am working on a business plan for a new Vegan restaurant in the NE. To have a bigger Vegetarian impact, I'd like to be appealing to a broader audience including non-veggie healthy conscious folks. I also want to be able to average ~ $8 or $9 per ticket, so it's affordable to College students. Working with fresh ingredients and organic products puts a lot of pressure on costs... I'd love to receive feedback on what you'd like to see on the menu, what location you find attractive and what's your budget. Post Date: 07/01/10, Replies: 16
Dealing with meat eating family members Good day! We are a vegetarian devotee family. My husband and I both came from meat eating families, and while we love and care for our parents and brothers and sisters it is very difficult for us when we go to visit them. They don't understand our lifestyle. I am currently struggling with how to relate to my brother in law who just opened a BBQ restaurant featuring all beef and pork. I have so many emotions related to this, anger, and sadness mostly. It is heartbreaking to me that he and his family are participating and profiting and ultimately suffering from the torture and murder of our wonderful and sacred cow friends. We are planning a trip and will be seeing them for a few days. Does anyone have suggestions on how to manage the emotions I feel about this? about what he is doing? I feel such strong urges to educate but know that it will create alienation ultimately. I appreciate input as this is quite a challenging situation! Post Date: 08/07/14, Replies: 16
Afraid to eat "fake" meat I've only been vegetarian for a little less than a year and haven't been able to bring myself to eat any fake/faux meat. I've bought tofu, soy crumbles, fake chicken, etc. and have ended up throwing it away because I can't make myself eat it. I get grossed out thinking about it. I really want to rotate some faux meat in to my diet, so that I can have more variety and add more protein. Does anyone have suggestions as what might be a good starting point for me??? Help! Vegansexuals This sounds funny, and it's not spam. I had just heard of the term, "Vegansexuals," a label used on people who do not eat any meat and who choose not to be sexually intimate with non-vegan partners. Any comments? Post Date: 11/16/07, Replies: 14
How to answer questions asked by omnivores I've been a Vegetarian for most of my life and Vegan for the latter part. I'm sure all of you can relate to the frustrations most of us encounter in our everyday life, namely, those frustrations have to do with omnivores and their silly/asinine questions. I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where we can post a question we've been asked followed by an awesome response that will make an omnivore speechless. I have a few, but I'll start with a hunting question since that's all I've been asked lately. Omnivore: Hunting deer is a necessary means of population control, without it, the deer would be everywhere/overpopulated. There will be so many deer, people will be hitting them left and right with their cars… Response: [#1 Who took over their habitat/homes??? We did, deal with them…they have nowhere to go since you destroyed their homes!!!] What I actually say: Really? So since humans are also overpopulating, should we be shooting them too? You know, to control the population... This response has left everyone speechless…but it's true. I'm interested to see some of your responses to questions. Post Date: 02/04/08, Replies: 14

stupied questions asked by meat eaters I am constantly asked why r u a vegan, where do you get your protein from and like what do you eat. Meat eaters can be so naïve to actually think that us vegans live off carrots. Post Date: 07/25/13, Replies: 14
Any Advice Becoming vegetarian was much easier than I had expected and transitioning to vegan has been even easier. I don't have any nutritional issues. I work out 6 days/week and have never felt better. My only problem is that I live in an area not very receptive to my changes. I do not force my beliefs on others, but they notice the change in my diet. They have a very hard time accepting my choice, but when they find out why (ethics and environment) it becomes almost unbearable. It has gotten to the point that I don't enjoy eating out with them, and my phone is inundated with crap. Any advice on getting them to back off. Post Date: 02/10/14, Replies: 14
Biggest frustration as vegetarian Hi everybody. I've been vegetarian almost two years. Best decision I've ever made. I enjoy better health and have more energy. But being vegetarian can create new challenges. So I just wonder, what’s the biggest challenge or frustration you’re having with being vegetarian/vegan? Post Date: 01/23/17, Replies: 14
Christmas experience We had dinner at a relatives place this year so I brought along a Tofurky roast with my own Mushroom and apple gravy, all nicely sliced and served. Dinner was served buffet style, and as we were going around the table, one person heard me mention that it was Tofurky and they said "Oh I am so glad you told me - I almost had some" Is this a normal reaction? Friends with someone who wears fur? My title was too long for the topic subject. Could you be friends with someone who wears fur? I'm not vegetarian but fur disgusts me. In my class a woman wears fur and wants to be friends with me, but I feel disgusted whenever I see her. There are only a small percentage of people who wear fur, so it seems like no big deal not to want to be friends with her, because she wears fur. How do other people handle such issues? dinner time with my non vegan partner ! Hello gorgeous people... I was wondering if any of you had any sage advice on how to go about transitioning fully to a vegan lifestyle when my partner is not. He isn't a vegetarian however LOVES tofu and kale, lentils etc etc, even uses soy milk- but most nights when we cook together he wants to use butter or cheese or eggs or yogurt etc. Personally I've been a vegetarian basically my whole life (I am 21) and I don't purchase any dairy products and when I'm just cooking for myself I always eat only plant-based foods. But for the two of us, making dinner every night is the last step I need to take in being fully vegan, which I am committed to... trying to sneak in coconut oil instead of butter and putting cheese on separately at the end is easy enough, but I know it's tough for my boyfriend when I can't eat any of his favourite foods. The last thing I want to do is preach though, so I've tried to explain my values and he is very supportive of that, and I've tried to be as flexible as possible over the last few months but now I want to fully commit myself, anddd you know how it is- when you are a vegan every single person you tell seems to somehow take it personally!! Anyway anyone who has been in a similar situation or just any general wisdom would be so appreciated in making this a little easier! Thank you all and namaste :) xxxx Post Date: 07/23/14, Replies: 13
malnutrition-HELP!!! Hello All, I would LOVE any and all responses to this dilemma; I work in a residential treatment facility for adolescents with eating disorders and have a new client who is 14 and just got out of the hospital from a cardiac arrest due to malnutrition. She is vegan and refuses to eat anything on the menu that contains meat or dairy. Because research shows that there is some kind of link between vegetarianism/veganism and eating disorders (causal relationship is unknown)our program does not support this lifestyle in regards to meal planning. We respect it, but there is no way for us to know if such a lifestyle serves as an excuse to restrict calories (she says she doesn't have an eating disorder). That being said, due to her refusal to eat items that are crucial to her weight gain and subsequent recovery, she is still not getting the caloric intake necessary to improve her health. Our bottom line with her is, we respect her beliefs but sometimes people need to put aside their convictions when health is a priority and one's life is on the line. Since she has no control over the program's rules, it's not as if she has a choice when it comes to how she is getting the nutrition she needs, therefore she is not letting go of her commitment to veganism, she is temporarily putting it aside until she is healthy and knowledgeable enough to make informed decisions about her food choices on her own. I asked her what she thought members of the vegan community would have to say about her choice to refuse that which we have available that will get her healthy, and though she says others' opinions don't matter, we need as much help as possible with this one-it's life or death. Thanks in advance for all input, even if it is not in support of the program I work for. Post Date: 03/17/10, Replies: 12

Should I quit being a vegetarian? Reasons Hi all, I'm wondering if I should stop being a vegetarian. I mean here are the reasons to consider doing so: - Ever since I became a vegetarian in 1990, I've gained weight and lost muscle mass. I used to be stronger and believe it or not, was able to beat most guys my age in arm wrestling (when I was a teen). It may be that due to lack of protein, I felt less full and so ate more carbs in the form of rice, bread, cheese, cookies, cakes, pasta, popcorn, etc. which cause more weight gain. - I felt more sluggish and had less energy after I became a vegetarian. It was hard to exercise and work out because I had no endurance. Maybe it was due to lack of protein? - I think girls found me more attractive when I ate meat and flirted with me more. When you eat meat, you have more testosterone and seem more complete. As a vegetarian, you probably give off a different vibe or have less testosterone and thus aren't as attractive to women. However, on the other hand, here are the drawbacks to consider: - Not all vegetarians are fat and sluggish. Many are thin and healthy too. So perhaps I am not doing it right or eating too many carbs? If so, could it be my fault rather than the vegetarian diet's fault? How are other vegetarians who are thin and healthy getting enough proteins? Can proteins in eggs and beans compensate for protein in meat? - Many endurance runners, even in the Olympics, are vegetarians, so there must be benefits to it. - By eating meat, I would compromise my morals against the killing of animals. That may affect my conscience. And it may bring me back karma too. - When I stopped eating meat in 1990, my mind and consciousness became a lot clearer. And my spiritual awareness level increased and expanded as well. That's how I became a good writer. Before that, I could not write at all and had nothing to say in writing and had no opinions. I was just a follower who was trying to follow and fit in somewhere. So, if I go back to eating meat, my mind and awareness level may decrease and I may not be as good of a writer anymore. - My mental health improved after I stopped eating meat too. I had better control over my mind and did not sink into depression and my OCD symptoms did not control me as much. Perhaps this is because my karma improved after not eating meat. What this means is that eating meat again may result in lower mental health again, as well as bad karma. - Also if you haven't eaten meat for many years, how can you start again? Won't it make your stomach sick to even try? What do you all think? Post Date: 09/21/14, Replies: 12

how to get non-vegans to leave you alone! This is more of a question and an answer…? Im still dealing with everyone I know, with them worrying about me not getting enough nutrients that they think is in meat and other bad foods. No matter how much I tell them otherwise, they still bother me and are rude and sometimes almost mean. I know that this problem will never go away, but Id like it to go down a lil! I want to be a peaceful happy loving vegan and not be rude or get mad at other ppl when they ask or confront me about veganism and ask that same old stupid question, "where do you get your protein and calcium?" ugh! So Im wondering how you guys deal with this issue in your lives and how long have y'all been vegan or vegetarian? PS Ive only been vegan for a year... Post Date: 02/27/17, Replies: 12
