| Am i Doing Something Wrong? Went Vegan 10 days ago and also started working out and running 8 weeks ago; averaging about 9 miles total a week along with some calisthenics and stretching. Only backslid about 5 times by eating 2 eggs, fist full of cheese, but no meats whatsoever. As of today, haven't lost a single pound. Did I perhaps lose 2 lbs but put on 2 lbs of muscle? Still looks like I should have lost 5 lbs at least. Staying with it. Am i doing something wrong?? Post Date: 04/26/16, Replies: 7 | ||
| Flora TV advert. I've just e-mailed the advertising standards agency to complain about the UK Flora tv advert as I think it's misleading - portraying the product as being plant based when it clearly is not!! Has this annoyed any one else>>!!!! Post Date: 04/25/16, Replies: 1 | ||
| Questions from a beginner Hello everyone, I have been on and off paleo for 3 years before I realized I hate meat and it makes me feel awful. I have been 100% vegan for a week now and loving it. I eat 80% fruits, veggies, legumes, grains etc. and 20% fats and snacks type things. I have a few questions that I haven't seen come up much in the blogs and books I have started to read. 1. What percentage of carbs, protein and fat should I be ideally striving for? I have this odd fear that I will overdo the protein and not get enough fats for example and then I will feel crappy and not want to continue. 2. Is there a significant 'detox' period when first starting a vegan lifestyle? Keep in mind I have been paleo so I have been hearing how awful grains are. I have been breaking out quite substantially and getting odd itchy patches all over my body. Paleo would have me believe this is a reaction to gluten or grains in general. Any opinions? 3. And last for now, can anyone recommend some good you tube videos or documentaries that are not OVERLY graphic. I don't think I can handle anymore of watching those poor animals but I am very interested in the 'science' behind being a vegan. Thank you in advance! Post Date: 04/25/16, Replies: 5 | ||
| IS IT A TROUBLE TO BE A VEGAN? :( Hey it's Carisa, 15 from the uk I feel bad because I always ask my mum if I can be vegan but she says i'm stupid and she needs to buy really expensive stuff to meet my protein needs. That kinda sucks but I keep telling her that I don't need meat and dairy in order to survive and that plant protein is way better for my health.. she thinks cus I'm just a teen I don't know nutritional stuff and cus I'm growing I shud get my protein straight from meat. She nearly always gets mad at me.. I keep telling her I don't want to put animal products in my body.. but I feel troublesome to her because she says I'm being selfish and a guilt tripper and that I need to appreciate my food.. I kind of understand where she's coming from. There's like animal products in nearly everything that's easy to get ur hands on. But how do I get the message across that I really don't like the idea of consuming animal products because they factually may not be beneficial to my health plus it's an innocent cute being I just cannot eat its flesh. Why do people get so angry at me. I don't preach or swear etc I just keep calm and silently cry when I consume the poor animals' stress hormones. Post Date: 04/18/16, Replies: 7 | ||

| WHEN!? When are one of you vegan pubs gonna get a tv so that us jocks can enjoy a burger, beer, and a sports game of any type. I am so damn desperate for this combo I will watch F***ing Darts for crying out loud. You don't have to keep the Tv on all day! Oilers night!? Please just expand your horizons a bit here people. This whole vegan thing is not taking off and this is just another reason why. I am embarrassed to take my non-vegan friends to your establishments because you are all way too extreme in your approach. Your artzy fartzy atmospheres are boring the hell out of me and turning my friends off from even considering walking and trying your food. Not all artists paint, play music, or write poetry. I take my art to the ice, to the playing field. Jocks can be creative artists too! ugh. Post Date: 04/12/16, Replies: 6 | ||
| The BEST vegan transition u will ever see My god has anyone else seen Sergi G's 30 day vegan challenge series? Im 35 years old and just binge watched his entire series. I saw one of his videos by coincidence and now HIGHLY recommend this channel to anyone, meat eaters, vegans, those transitioning. His conclusion video is the best you will ever see wrapping up a 30 day vegan challenge. He ended up staying vegan. Hes very charismatic guy from Barcelona and offers some of the highest quality editing and production I have seen (especially in the vegan community). Anyways rather than leaving it to chance I wanted to recommend this channel to everyone. (This guy is blowing up, he posted his first video 3 months ago and already has close to 4,000 subscribers). There are my 2 cents. Happy day to everyone! :) Post Date: 04/08/16, Replies: 1 | ||
| Are we designed omnivores???? Recently I read about scientific studies claiming that there are many disadvantages of eating animal products.. -that we aren't supposed to drink the milk of another species.. -that we do not have an acidic stomach (though carnivores do) to digest meat.. -that we are very similar to herbivores (we have teeth for grinding, not canine teeth for tearing meat).. -that we have no claws (though carnivores do).. -that meat isn't designed for us which is why we cook it rather than eat it raw.. -that many people are lactose intolerant -that the stress hormones of the animal are passed to us.. Yet somehow despite all of this, for some reason advertisements and nearly all people say that animal products are good for us... are these just false claims that people so passionately put forward for industry or are they scientifically accurate.... Is cow's milk really that good for the bones? Also are plants better to eat than animals because many are given hormones as well to grow at an unnatural rate, according to my mum they're not that healthy or natural... um what to say to that :/ surely not that bad, mum... as the hormones put into animals. | Making the leap My New Year's Resolution was to stop eating beef and pork, however I continued to eat chicken and turkey. I guess I felt like chicken and turkey were not intelligent or less than. I struggled with this resolution. I have not seen any videos of abuse or slaughterhouses and to be honest I don't want to nor do I need to. I've gotten to the point when I look at meat on my plate I think about the cruelty that they faced. Again, I've never seen any videos...I can only imagine. I push my plate away and lose my appetite. I'm making the leap to become a vegetarian! I can no longer eat meat. My question is do I just jump into this, or is this something you do gradually? After making the decision to go vegetarian what's next? I've been reading and found nothing about the actual process for a beginner. I'll take any advice to assist me on this journey. | Vegan - Taking a Break???? Hello all, Something is troubling me. My daughter who is 25 years old, after being vegan for about three years, she decided to eat fish. I found out through her brother. I was very sad, devastated felt angry against her and felt betrayed, as if she had done something against me. I have many times confronted to her how I feel about the suffering of animals in the hands of humans. She has understood my emotions completely, and agreed with me about the consumption of meat and the use of animals. By the time I confronted to her that I had found out, I had become very angry, causing me call her a lot of horrible names. All she told me was that she had it twice to give veganism a break and that it was her life and could do what she wanted. It has been two weeks now and we barely talk, as we were very close. Am I wrong here? How can someone be vegan and eat fish. Fish is an animal and its animal flesh she is eating. I want to hear what others think. Post Date: 03/21/16, Replies: 7 | ||

| Proposed HC sections. Hey Eric. I'm posting this Public in the hopes that there will be community feedback. As a Vegan for more than 30 years I would like you to note that I only frequent Vegan/Vegetarian restaurants and HappyCow when I travel in countries where they have a non-alpha language, and do not have a human translator to tell the waitstaff "No fish oil, chicken stock, etc., etc." ...and it is bloody time-consuming chasing around to find them! Everywhere else in the world I simply go to the restaurant of my choice and tell them my needs. Sure, I go to the occasional amazing Vegan/Vegetarian restaurant like Naam (Vancouver) and Vegan Thai (Santa Monica), but otherwise most V restaurant menus are too frufru for me, or - often in Asia - emphasize too much fake meat, squid, etc. I also notice literally worldwide (well, 54 countries) that 75-80% of the patrons of Vegan and Vegetarian restaurants are Carnivores either taking a 'cleaner/healthier' meal out, or assuming there are no calories within the meal. I sincerely believe this is in part because most Vegans/Vegetarians eat at home or in 'regular' restaurants where they trust the kitchen to not 'cross contaminate' rather that hitting designated restaurants all the time (and therefore not using HappyCow). The exception is with 'newbie' V-peeps, who are eating at V-specific restaurants looking for recipes and inspiration. Case in point, I just spent the entire month of February in China this year, and ate my way though 9 cities over the Chinese New Year and Spring Festival events. Vegan/Vegetarian eating is HUGE during the first week of Spring Festival - believed to be the most spiritual way to start the new year. The following week they go back to their Carnivore ways. In many restaurants over that period I was often one of the very few Vegans in the place! So, to my point. It is my sincere belief that the addition of Vegan Friendly and Vegetarian Friendly classifications on your website would (a) increase the awareness of our diet/lifestyle/benefits to a greater population, not just 'preach to the converted', (b) increase the addition and highlighting of Vegan Options and Vegetarian Options on menus worldwide, thus adding to 'a' above, (c) help to 'spread the V word' and hope to inspire new V-peeps, (d) help to create less of an 'us and them' attitude, and (e) increase your viewership as you continue spreading the V word. Thanks for listening Danny Post Date: 03/10/16, Replies: 4 | ||
| Currently researching the vegan lifestyle I am in year 12 and researching the question "What are, if any the benefits of a Vegan lifestyle?" I have a few questions that I want to ask, so anyone who is currently Vegan feel free to answer these (Note, your awnsers will be used in my research) :) 1. At what age did you decide to obtain the vegan lifestyle? 2. Do you completely subside animal products e.g.; makeup, toiletries and clothing or just food? 3. What does being vegan mean to you? 4. Do you find being vegan to be challenging? 5. How expensive can it be to successfully live the vegan lifestyle? 6. Where is the go to place to buy vegan products? 7. How do you get enough iron, protein and vitamins as a vegan? 8. What are the nutritional benefits for you? 9. Do you feel that you’re healthier in the long run? 10. I want to become vegan; how could I learn to love vegetable dishes? 11. If any, what do you feel the negatives of living the vegan lifestyle is? 12. Also, what are the positives? | Vegan/Vegetarian Skin/Hair Care Hello HappyCow users :) I want to discuss something that is extremely important in the vegan and vegetarian community: vegan and cruelty free personal care products. Many times it is easiest to change out our diet. We decide that meat and animal byproducts will no longer be present in our diet, but does that still make you a vegan? What about those Uggs you have from five years ago? What about that jacket that is lined with bunny fur? And (the sneakiest): what about that L'Oreal mascara that you are still using? Many companies these days are still testing on animals and still using animal byproducts in their ingredients. How can you be considered vegan if you are still consuming products that have animal byproducts? Luckily there are many many vegan companies out there that not only refuse to test on animals, but also do not include animal byproducts in any of their ingredients. These are the companies that are useful to you! Yes they may be a little bit more expensive, but then again it is worth it to find companies that are in line with your mission, right?! Check out PETA's site online where they have many different certified vegan AND cruelty free companies :) Check it out! What products are you guys using that don't test on animals and contain 0 animal byproducts?! Write them here for people to see! Post Date: 03/06/16, Replies: 7 | ||
| Hello, I design buildings and vegan bags Hello everyone, I am Jun and i am happy to join this forum. I have been a vegan for 10 years and it has changed me and my family's lifestyle greatly. Growing up in an Asian diet, we have always consumed great amounts of veggies and non poultry, but cutting them off is when i really felt the refreshing change. Currently I am an architect, running between Asia and California. We design for sustainable architecture. I am really passionate about environmental friendly buildings and structures, which i hope it is what the future will be., with everyone living in harmony with the earth and environment. In my spare time, I run a vega bags and accessories store with my wife. Please check out our store at tokyobags.co. We truly believe and have adopted the vegan way of living in each aspect of our daily lives. We hope to help people around me understand the lifestyle, health and psychological benefits of living the vegan way, and in harmony and respect with our environment and planet. Please pardon my poor english. Wishing everyone here a merry christmas :) Post Date: 03/03/16, Replies: 1 | ||
