| Australia I'm in Australia for about 4 months visiting my Uncles and exploring. I just noticed a few days ago that on my return flight I arrive in San Fransisco Airport at 10:24 am on Jan. 11, and my plane to NJ leaves at 10:00 pm later that day. I need somebody to take me around the city for a few hours so I don't get bored. Post Date: 09/02/09, Replies: 0 | ||
| Awesome vegan buffet find in Dallas I was in Dallas on business last week, and was thrilled to find a vegan buffet restaurant there of all places. It's called New Start Veggie Garden, and I submitted a new listing and review to this site. My only concern is that it didn't seem to have much business when I went there for dinner. I was the only diner until another business traveler and a group of three other ladies showed up as I was finishing up my meal. Anyway, I hope it survives, and I've added reviews to several vegetarian restaurant sites to help spread the word. It would be a shame to see a great vegetarian establishment like this close. They have a huge variety of dishes, all made from scratch, and they use healthy ingredients (no processed sugars; they use brown rice, egg substitutes, and ingredients are prepared raw if possible to preserve nutrients) to make sure that it's the must nutritious food available, all without sacrificing taste. At $8.99 for lunch and $10 for dinner, it's a bargain considering the buffet variety. I wish Phoenix had a vegan buffet like this, I would dine there every week! Post Date: 12/17/07, Replies: 0 | ||

| Beirut / Lebanon Hey guys, Has anyone been to Lebanon? Any ideas how easy it is to get vegan food, especially outside of the big cities? I know that Lebanese cuisine is rich in vegan food, but I don't know whether that means it's easy to find vegan food everywhere! It seems like there are a few places on HappyCow, but not many, and only 1 outside of Beirut. Post Date: 07/13/15, Replies: 0 | ||
| Berlin I went to Berlin, because I was invited by my dad to come for 10 days. He lives in another part of Germany so I was at cafes and restaurants. I was surprised at how few vegetarian dishes most places lacked. I am a vegan, but had to eat mostly vegetarian, because I need to eat something. I'm not asking for places that are vegetarian, but your thoughts on what can be morally acceptable baring certain situations. Post Date: 10/25/10, Replies: 5 | ||
| Best vegan places in Bangkok? Hi everyone! I just over a week I'm going to Bangkok for a few days, and I feel quite lost looking at the amount of vegetarian and vegan restaurants listed on this site! I'm not used to there being so many. Can you help me pick out a few, preferably ones easy to find and close to places I might want to visit? Thanks! Post Date: 11/02/14, Replies: 5 | ||

| Both Vegan and 'omni' in Ptd? I hate to even put this out there but entertaining the in-laws who are staunchly anti-veg. Thus I need to know places that are veg-friendly that would be good for me (vegan) and them. I only have been to the vegan places in Ptd, since I have that luxury I suppose and have not eaten w them in the past. It looks less of an option this time around to dine sep from them. So if anyone knows of a nice place that has more than a crappy boca burger cooked in bacon, but nice, poss upscale that caters to both realistically, please let me know. If you don't want to word up a place here in the forum (I don't blame you ~ I'm the last one who wants to word up meat places), drop me a pm. Its short notice too, so the sooner the better... thanks in advance. Post Date: 10/27/09, Replies: 2 | ||
| British Airways & Vegan Discrimination Fed up with BA. They discriminate against vegans on short-haul flights by not offering anything for us to eat but, at the same time, offering free food to everyone else. Bad customer practice, alienating vegans like this. Poor customer practice in their bland corporate replies to my complaints. Post Date: 07/29/15, Replies: 1 | ||
| Brunch in Manhattan? What's the best vegetarian brunch in Manhattan? I am being treated to brunch for my birthday and I need suggestions! Thanks, Truly Post Date: 03/08/10, Replies: 8 | ||
| C'mon Denver, get it together! Denver, You have all of 3 vegetarian cafes. You are supposed to be a major American city. Get it together!! One of the 3 is in a hospital, so no chance on that one. The other two are owned by the same folks. C'mon! That means only one realistic group of folks set out to do the right thing?! Get it together! The rest of the listings in Denver, though there are more recent listings I have yet to try ~ but am hesitant to since all others really are so bad and so heavily meaty, have a ton of meat and have little understanding of how to cook veggies or how to treat vegetarians or heaven forbid vegan like a second-class citizen. Boulder, for a fake hippie town, you guys need to step it up too. Lets go. Denver, let's get it in gear! Post Date: 10/09/13, Replies: 3 | ||

| Cascadian Independent Vegan Travel group? Hello All! I'm contemplating starting a new group for folks interested in Cascadian Independent Vegan Travel. We would organize things ourselves, be low-budget focused. Loding would focus on utilizing camping, hostels, couchsurfing & similar options with transportation primarily being public transit &/or ridesharing. It would be open to non-vegan's provided they ate vegan when we were together. Travel would be either in the Cascadia region or with folks coming from here traveling together to other areas and could be both focused on natural areas and cities/towns. Local and day trips and activities would be included. That's my vision - what do ya'll think? ps. In case you are not familiar with where/what Cascadia is, have a peek here: http://www.en.wikipedia.org /wiki/File:Cascadia_extreme.jpg Post Date: 01/26/10, Replies: 2 | ||
| Coach tour experiences? (Spain) We're going to Spain next summer. My husband wants to use a tour group instead of travelling independently. There are several advantages, but one big disadvantage - food. Any vegans with experience taking a coach (bus) tour - especially in Spain? I've already contacted one of the tour companies, but would rather get feedback from vegans who have already done this. Thanks. Post Date: 09/03/08, Replies: 0 | ||
| Concerns about running a Vegan B&B Inn Hello All! I'm new to this site. Until recently, I was a high school Culinary Arts teacher ... but our state economy in Arizona is such that budget cuts have terminated my program. This is the 2nd time that I've been laid off due to budget cuts in the past six years. It's a bit frustrating because teachers in Arizona rank towards the bottom of the nation in terms of teacher salaries. Most teachers never had a problem with this because the low pay used to be offset by some degree of job security. So long as you did your job and were a good teacher, you pretty much had a job for life. This is no longer true and good teachers by the hundreds have been steadily laid off for the past several years. Instead of moving yet again in the pursuit of yet another teaching job, I've given some thought to returning to Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania realty market is such that I still own a home there. It's been on the market since 2007. My home is (or was) a Victorian B&B Inn ... seven bedrooms with attached bathrooms ... eight if you count the innkeeper's suite. Instead of running this place as a typical B&B, I've been thinking about turning it into a vegan B&B that would pair vegan cooking workshops with overnight (or longer) stays. Since I wasn't raised as a vegan let alone a vegetarian, the single biggest problem I had when I adopted a vegan diet was the fact that I missed a lot of my favorite comfort foods. This led me to create vegan version recipes of popular comfort foods such as chicken fried steak, Sichuan Pork, spaghetti with meatballs and Italian sausage, and steamed fish with Cantonese Sauce. It also led me into writing and I am now producing a 10 volume vegan cookbook series called "The Unintentional Vegan, Vegan Version Recipes of Popular Comfort Foods." Volume 1: Beef, is currently available as an e-book through Amazon.com. So ... here is my concern. There are a lot more non-vegans out there than vegans ... so if I opened a vegan B&B inn that was primarily tied to vegan cooking workshops, I could alienate non-vegans. I don't want to exclude people from the inn for being non-vegan or non-vegetarian ... but I can also see that having a vegan inn could create all sorts of guest complaints from non-vegans about the quality of their breakfast i.e. why aren't you serving eggs? Where's the bacon? Why don't you have any milk? I really don't want to produce non-vegan foods. It would after all seem hypocritical to offer non-vegan foods in a supposedly vegan inn that also offered vegan cooking workshops. I don't think non-vegans would enjoy my vegan scrambled eggs (made with rice, bean curd, and soy cheese) but they might enjoy my pancakes and almond crusted french toast. I could also offer cereal and fresh fruit. I've even created a recipe for a faux yogurt made with soy milk, various flavorings, and agar-agar. With this being said, having previously run an inn for three years, I know that some guests can be fickle ... and I really don't want to have to explain over and over again the concept of veganism or why the inn is vegan friendly. As a business owner, I know that I'd have to state this up front ... but even so, I would anticipate receiving complaints and or foolish questions about why this vegan inn doesn't serve non-vegan foods. Even if I told guests upfront that this was a vegan inn and even if I posted this on the business website, I'm sure I'd still have people nattering on about this. I'd appreciate hearing any constructive thoughts regarding the operation of a vegan B&B inn. Good idea? Bad idea? What do I do to head off the complaints of non-vegan guests who want their bacon and eggs? Post Date: 09/09/13, Replies: 8 | ||

| Cuba Hi all, Does anyone have any tips for visiting Cuba? Looking elsewhere on this site it looks like the vegan friendly options are pretty limited. I'm scheduled to fly into Varadero but after probably 1 night there I intend to head for Havana. No concrete plans beyond there. Any help is much appreciated. | Cuba- Where to bring donations Some of the most rewarding moments on my recent Cuba trip was taking the time to donate to a few different places throughout Havana and Trinidad. We flew Southwest, so just used our extra bag allowing to bring a duffel bag of donations each. If you don't have a two bag allowance, you could always bring a carry on instead. There is not access to the same items we have here, so even dollar store items make a big difference. Clean out you closet of old clothes you no longer wear and visit a Dollar Tree. You will be so happy you did when you witness the gratitude. Since I had a hard time finding out about places to donate ahead of time, I wanted to share what I found. I'm posting on here because AniPlant and The Diana Project are for animal welfare and I really think vegans would enjoy helping these in particular I, also, recommend downloading the app maps.me ahead of time. If you download the map for Cuba, it'll be easier to locate these crossroads. Places In Havana: AniPlant Contact Person: Nora Garcia Perez (Spanish only) Cell: 05243 3789 Website: www.theaniplantproject.org Crossroads on map: Principe and Hospital Organizations to help protect animals are rare in Cuba. It can be heartbreaking to see malnourished, injured, or mange infected dogs on the street. This is why it was so meaningful to us to be able to donate and tour AniPlant’s facilities. They offer sterilization services to Cubans with pets for little to no cost and, also, to strays in an effort to reduce overpopulation. The modest operating room was very clean, however, they simply don't have access to all the supplies they need. The woman in charge was very very appreciative of any donations and took her time to show us around. Beware there are adorable dogs you may fall in love with and be very tempted to take home! When we were there, a few were already being prepared to be shipped overseas to other tourists who had fallen in love. What we donated: dry milk, cat/dog treats, anti fungal cream, antibiotic ointment, bandages, non adherent gauze pads, cat food bowls, and soap. Parroquia Ntra. Sra. de la Medalla Milagrosa Santos Suarez #336 esq. a Paz Santos Suarez, 10 de Octubre, C.P. 10500. Ciudad Habana Contact Person: Father Lusarreta (Spanish only) Tel: (53-7) 41-8449 Crossroads on map: Santos Suarez and Paz https://www.yahoo.com/news/popes-church-poor-alive-well-cuba-222413032.html?ref=gs This is a church located in south Havana where Father Lusarreta runs his charity La Milagrosa. He has many charitable initiatives to help the community such as a soup kitchen, “grandparents house”, food and clothing to single parents in need, center for residents with Down syndrome, etc. Overall, it just seems to be a very positive institution that is really trying to help the residents of the area. What we donated: clothing, feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes/toothpaste, soap, and combs. In Trinidad: The Diana Project Casa Munoz Jose Marti #401 e/ Fidel Claro y Santiago Escobar Trinidad, S.Spiritus, Cuba Contact Person: Julio Munoz (Spanish and English) Email: [email protected] Phone: +53 41993673 diana.trinidadphoto.com This was another organization to benefit the welfare of animals. Julio Munoz has many initiatives to educate horse owners about proper care and treatment. Unfortunately, again people simply do not have access to proper supplies and education about horse care which results in the premature death of many horses. Julio, with his wife, run Casa Munoz. Unfortunately, it was booked while we were in Trinidad but he still sat with us in the living room and talked about everything from life in Cuba to the struggles of changing people's minds about proper horse care. He is very funny and I recommend taking the time to talk to him. What we donated: anti parasite medicine, Horseman’s Dream Veterinary Cream, antibiotic ointment, antifungal cream, bandages, non adherent gauze pads, and soap. Casa de la Cultura Calle Zerquera 406 Tel (419) 4308 This is a culture center where local artists exhibit some of their work. It, also, is where many of the local children go. We were lucky enough to visit on a Saturday and witness a group of children working on their drawings. There was such love in the room. The instructor was kind and the children seemed genuinely happy. We gave them the rest of our donations but wished we had more art supplies to donate. What we donated: clothing, crayons, pens, pads of paper, toys, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and hair ties. Post Date: 02/14/17, Replies: 0 | ||

| Delhi Info Our favorite place is the Navdanya stall in Dilli Haat! Though lots of the stalls there have vegan options. Indian food is the best, but watch out for cream in the main dishes like Channa Masala and any spinach dish. Post Date: 05/04/14, Replies: 0 | ||
