A Vegan in Paris...with her Non-Vegan BF Help! For my boyfriends birthday he decided to take us to Paris. He currently works as a Baker & previous to this as a Chef, so is very excited about trying French Cuisine and Patisseries. Myself on the other hand am worried I wont be eating for 4 days! I have researched & found some Vegan Cafes, however as its my boyfriends birthday trip & he eats meat I feel reluctant to make him go to purely Vegan places for me. Has anyone had any previous experiences? Ive read online that places are reluctant to alter dishes. What about people Lactose-Intollerances? Would appreciate any suggestions- we go on the 22/08/13, so not long!! Post Date: 03/09/14, Replies: 2
Vegan friendly pavenue near Eastbourne UK? Hiya, I am looking for a venue for my mother's 70th birthday celebrations in June and some of the family will be staying near Eastbourne. She wants a champagne reception and then a buffet. The criteria are that it be: 1. Vegan friendly (I want to eat!!) but with meat options for other guests. 2. Disabled friendly as there will be a wheelchair. 3. Dog friendly. Any suggestions, please? Thanks :) Post Date: 02/25/14, Replies: 0

A VEGAN RAW PLACE IN CUSCO THE SEEDS FROM PACHAMAMA In 1987 I started with my first vegetarian services to my community and since there I had seven vegetarian restaurants until 2005, and want to clarify here that in Peru "vegetarian" means "no meat - no animals at all for human consumption". We closed the last one and we maintained resting for a few years. And we decided to restart a new vision in restaurant to do a high quality service for our Cusco and international community with a higher Vegan, Raw and Vegetarian sharing with you. In September 2nd 2012 we reopened for you dear sisters and brothers, and our service will provide high quality meals, of course Vegan, Raw and Vegetarian options. We are also working in the project in producing our own vegetables and other organic products which will come directly to our restaurant and you will not only enjoy, but will also learn about many of the great things that Pachamama can offer to us. We need to make our part stimulating the New Generations to become vegans if we want a better World preserving our beautiful Planet! Beside all this, here you could participate in ceremonies, meditations and many other things that the land of the Inkas can offer to you. All the best and hope to meet you here one day. The location of our restaurant is: SHAMAN RESTAURANT Santa Catalina Ancha, 366-B Cusco – Peru Phones: 0051-984761007, 0051-984760187, 0051-84-261419 [email protected] www.shamancenter.org Beside all this, here you could participate in ceremonies, meditations and many other things that the land of the Inkas can offer to you. Tropical Vacation? Whats the most Vegan friendly tropical vacation spot to visit? I wanna be near the beach but don't wanna get stuck eating chips and salsa or sides. also any hotels/resorts that are vegan friendly? Post Date: 01/07/14, Replies: 5
Vegans in Kyoto and a super tight budget Hi everyone, we are going to travel to Kyoto in a few weeks and we are on an extremely tight budget, meaning that we cannot spend more that 12 Euros per person on food every day. We are also very worried we won't find cheap vegan food, so it would be great to get recommendations from other travelers or vegans in kyoto. One thought we had was getting lunch at one of the cheap vegan cafes recommended here and elsewhere and have packed meals for breakfast and dinner and inbetween. How, the main problem we have: what vegan products can you get at the convenience store or the supermarket? We don't speak or read any Japanese, so things are naturally much more tricky. It would really help us if, e.g. someone would point out specific snacks that are vegan to us. We could just print out pictures of it and try to find it. And are there maybe some places in Kyoto where you find really, really cheap noodle dishes that are definitively vegan? thanks so much in advance! Post Date: 01/03/14, Replies: 4
All inclusive holidays Hi, I am looking to book a holiday next year to celebrate my 40th (with non-veggie hubby & veggie 3 yr old). I have never been on an all inclusive holiday & would like to know if it is a worthwhile veggie option. Will I be eating only salad for 2 weeks?! Any advice would be gratefully received. Jayne :-) Post Date: 10/22/13, Replies: 7
C'mon Denver, get it together! Denver, You have all of 3 vegetarian cafes. You are supposed to be a major American city. Get it together!! One of the 3 is in a hospital, so no chance on that one. The other two are owned by the same folks. C'mon! That means only one realistic group of folks set out to do the right thing?! Get it together! The rest of the listings in Denver, though there are more recent listings I have yet to try ~ but am hesitant to since all others really are so bad and so heavily meaty, have a ton of meat and have little understanding of how to cook veggies or how to treat vegetarians or heaven forbid vegan like a second-class citizen. Boulder, for a fake hippie town, you guys need to step it up too. Lets go. Denver, let's get it in gear! Post Date: 10/09/13, Replies: 3
Travel companion June, July, SE Asia Hi I'm looking for someone to travel with in South East Asia. I'll be cycling around Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and maybe go north into China. I will be travelling by bicycle. I am a 27 year old life vegan. I love cycling, sailing and eating. Agnostic atheist. I'd like to stay with local vegans using Couchsurfing and eat at places I find from Happycow. If you like cycling and want to share a vegan adventure email me: [email protected] Post Date: 10/03/13, Replies: 0
Vancouver, Canada I was wondering if anyone out there can recommend a good veg friendly place in Vancouver that has a private function room for a party of about 20 people. There are so many awesome places in Vancouver, arguably the best city for vegetarian and vegan dining. However, finding a party space is not so easy. Cheers everyone! Post Date: 10/03/13, Replies: 0
Vegan travel in Ghana Healthy eating and lifestyle changes are slowly gaining acceptance in Ghana. Still, the best way to ensure that you stay eating healthily and are in control of your diet is to stay in self-catering accommodation. This is not so easy to find in Accra, and can be very expensive. However, Legassi Gardens provides serviced, self-catering apartments in the hilly suburbs of Accra, just on the outskirts of the capital. The kitchenette is clean and simple, with basic facilities you need to prepare and enjoy your own cooking. There is also a vegan cafe in the gardens, with outside seating under the trees, amongst the flowers. For vegan eateries in Accra, there are only 2 at present: the one called '37', close to the Lands Commission at 37 and run by 'Sister Pat'; or Asasepaa on High Street Accra, next door to Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Gardens, and almost opposite the Supreme Court! But, if you cannot eat out every day, get your own apartment at Legassi Gardens and stay in control. Post Date: 09/17/13, Replies: 0
Concerns about running a Vegan B&B Inn Hello All! I'm new to this site. Until recently, I was a high school Culinary Arts teacher ... but our state economy in Arizona is such that budget cuts have terminated my program. This is the 2nd time that I've been laid off due to budget cuts in the past six years. It's a bit frustrating because teachers in Arizona rank towards the bottom of the nation in terms of teacher salaries. Most teachers never had a problem with this because the low pay used to be offset by some degree of job security. So long as you did your job and were a good teacher, you pretty much had a job for life. This is no longer true and good teachers by the hundreds have been steadily laid off for the past several years. Instead of moving yet again in the pursuit of yet another teaching job, I've given some thought to returning to Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania realty market is such that I still own a home there. It's been on the market since 2007. My home is (or was) a Victorian B&B Inn ... seven bedrooms with attached bathrooms ... eight if you count the innkeeper's suite. Instead of running this place as a typical B&B, I've been thinking about turning it into a vegan B&B that would pair vegan cooking workshops with overnight (or longer) stays. Since I wasn't raised as a vegan let alone a vegetarian, the single biggest problem I had when I adopted a vegan diet was the fact that I missed a lot of my favorite comfort foods. This led me to create vegan version recipes of popular comfort foods such as chicken fried steak, Sichuan Pork, spaghetti with meatballs and Italian sausage, and steamed fish with Cantonese Sauce. It also led me into writing and I am now producing a 10 volume vegan cookbook series called "The Unintentional Vegan, Vegan Version Recipes of Popular Comfort Foods." Volume 1: Beef, is currently available as an e-book through Amazon.com. So ... here is my concern. There are a lot more non-vegans out there than vegans ... so if I opened a vegan B&B inn that was primarily tied to vegan cooking workshops, I could alienate non-vegans. I don't want to exclude people from the inn for being non-vegan or non-vegetarian ... but I can also see that having a vegan inn could create all sorts of guest complaints from non-vegans about the quality of their breakfast i.e. why aren't you serving eggs? Where's the bacon? Why don't you have any milk? I really don't want to produce non-vegan foods. It would after all seem hypocritical to offer non-vegan foods in a supposedly vegan inn that also offered vegan cooking workshops. I don't think non-vegans would enjoy my vegan scrambled eggs (made with rice, bean curd, and soy cheese) but they might enjoy my pancakes and almond crusted french toast. I could also offer cereal and fresh fruit. I've even created a recipe for a faux yogurt made with soy milk, various flavorings, and agar-agar. With this being said, having previously run an inn for three years, I know that some guests can be fickle ... and I really don't want to have to explain over and over again the concept of veganism or why the inn is vegan friendly. As a business owner, I know that I'd have to state this up front ... but even so, I would anticipate receiving complaints and or foolish questions about why this vegan inn doesn't serve non-vegan foods. Even if I told guests upfront that this was a vegan inn and even if I posted this on the business website, I'm sure I'd still have people nattering on about this. I'd appreciate hearing any constructive thoughts regarding the operation of a vegan B&B inn. Good idea? Bad idea? What do I do to head off the complaints of non-vegan guests who want their bacon and eggs? Post Date: 09/09/13, Replies: 8

The Lodge West Indies Paradise Vegan Lodge The Lodge on Grenada was one of the best vacations my husband and I have had in twenty year. Outstanding views, beautiful accomodations, and out of this world scruptious vegan dinners and breakfasts (and lunch on request) from Mary and Mark. Delightful hosts with dry British humor and a wonderful sense of the history and rich offerings of the region and their place. We brought a couple with us who are decidely NOT vegetarians and they loved it too. Highly recommended for the food, the people, the gorgeous home, and the island experience. Vegan Road Trip - USA My wife and I are both 67 years old, semi-retired and planning a Road Trip across the USA in our Smart Car. So far it looks like about 9500 miles from Orlando to the upper Northwest (Seattle/Victoria B.C.) and back to Orlando. Our plans are to visit as many of the USA National Parks and Treasures as we can as well as other interesting sites. Besides the Smart Car, we are also Nutritional Vegans so expect some challenges when it comes to dining, restaurants and hotel/motel accommodations. We plan to rely heavily on the HappyCow Data Base to help us along the way. We plan to post pictures, dining experiences, the wonders we see and the people we shall meet. We have no schedule set and it looks like about 25 to 30 days on the road; all in our Smart Car. See my web site: vegan-roadtripusa.com/. I already have a HappyCow link posted there: vegan-roadtripusa.com/documents/links.html Maybe some other members will provide advice, direction and hints along our route! Vegan in Soll, Tyrol, Austria Don't be put off by what you might hear about going to Austria as a vegan. I'm just back from a fantastic family holiday in beautiful Soll, up in the magnificent Tyrol mountains halfway between Salzburg and Innsbruck. We stayed at the Hotel Tyrol there which was one of the Austrian hotels featured in the Inghams and Crystal travel brochures which advertises as catering for vegans. They took great care of me with lovely five course vegan meals every night (only the night that we arrived was disappointing) - and seven course meals once a week! Breakfast was less encouraging as I had to bring my own vegan-friendly cereal, bread and soya milk but even at breakfast time there was a big array of fresh fruits and fruit salads, jams, crispbread etc - and it was not a hardship for me to bring my own vegan bread and cereal bought from the local MPreis supermarket. My having a little explanation printed in German of what vegans eat seemed to help too. In the village of Soll I also had a lovely vegan pasta meal at Ristorante Giovanni where the service was as good as the food. The nearby MPreis had a good selection of soya milk and soya desserts - and Manner Neopolitaner wafers, chocolately vegan wafers were on sale there and all over the area we stayed and were a hit with the whole family. The Spar supermarket at Hopfgarten im Brixental, which we got to via the gondolas, had a great selection of vegetarian and vegan food, including a vegan goulash which the staff at the Spar restaurant kindly agreed to heat for me in their microwave so I could eat it outside. They sold a packet of individual portion size veggie pates, almost all of which were vegan - and there seemed to be a nice wholefood shop there which sold vegetarian things too but which was closed the day we were there. Eating out in some other parts of Soll was more difficult but I was able to grab pasta and even dairy free pizza at a couple of other restaurants. At other times I just grabbed a plate of chips if we were eating up in the mountains - and the beer is vegan and was fantastic everywhere! We also ate out in the Heart of Joy Cafe, Salzburg albeit a bit off the beaten path (though near the Mirabell Gardens of The Sound of Music fame and the food there was very nice - and as the Happy Cow website shows there are quite a few other places to go to in various other parts of Austria - so if you haven't been before and were holding back, don't! We had our best family holiday ever there - even though I had feared the worst food-wise before we went. Post Date: 07/30/13, Replies: 0
A dream come true - vacation in Costa Rica I'm planning my dreamy honeymoon in Costa Rica in August. 2 locations that I heard great things about and want to visit when I'm there: www.tinjo.com/new/ Asian restaurant in San Jose with lots of veggie options I heard that their sushi is great www.landsinlove.com a vegetarian / vegan resort in the middle of the cloud forest, read excellent reviews on this place. Somebody knows these places? what do you think about them? Post Date: 07/09/13, Replies: 7
Places to stay in Bristol, Uk Just a heads up to anyone planning a trip to Bristol Uk, I've just taken over running the cafe attached to Clifton Hotel, which means that as a quest there you get discount but also unlike the regular hotel breakfast room I'm offering several fully vegan and healthy options, we always have soya milk, granola, fruit and even vegan cakes. As a vegan myself I always got frustrated when I stayed at a hotel and ended up with nothing to eat in the morning, so I'd really like to try my best to change that for guest here. (We also have several gluten free options too) If anyone would like to know more this is the website for the caffe; www.caffeclifton.co.uk, and if anyone else has any ideas on other ways I could help cater for vegan hotel quests I would love to hear them, this is a very personal project for me and I really want to help make this work :) Post Date: 06/24/13, Replies: 0

In Mumbai & Looking for Greens to Eat Here on business going on two weeks now and although I do enjoy the variety of vegetarian foods here, it's been curry for breakfast, lunch and supper. From someone who is used to eating salads virtually every day (green smoothies for breakfast too) they aren't found on any menus here (at least at the hotel where I'm staying). Can anyone here recommend a place in Mumbai that is "safe" for my American digestive tract? Post Date: 05/14/13, Replies: 0
Traveling to Mumbai, How to Eat Safely Hi All, Next weekend I'm traveling to Mumbai on business and will be there two weeks. I will most likely be very busy the first week so won't do much other than working and then back to the hotel. I didn't do my homework as far as getting shots for Hep A, B or malaria. Too late for that now. I try to avoid all medications and don't even consider an aspirin unless I really have pain. I'm not a total vegetarian by any stretch but avoid all dairy and red meat. Usually make an organic green smoothy for breakfast every day. Just looking for some tips to avoid getting ill... Thanks Post Date: 05/06/13, Replies: 6

Hawaii "Luau" or show I'm headed to Honolulu and Maui in December and since it's my kids first time I'd love for them to see a typical hawaiian dance and flame show, but for (hopefully) obvious reasons don't want to go to a typical Luau. Does anyone know of any good shows we could go to on Oahu or Maui? Thanks :) Post Date: 03/25/13, Replies: 1
