| Cinnamon Rolls These are easy to make cinnamon rolls that are modified from a non-veg recipe Double or triple the recipe because it doesn't make many, but here is the original measurements: preheat oven: 425 1C flour 2T sugar 1/2t baking powder 1/2t salt 1/4C margarine 1/3C soy milk filling: sugar cinnamon chopped nuts/raisins/chocolate chips Sift together dry ingredients and add soy milk and 3T margarine (keep the rest for brushing on the dough) Roll out the dough until it's as thin as you want it, not too thin though or it'll get holes in it. You may need to add a little more flour to tone down stickiness. Brush on remaining margarine and sprinkle on sugar, cinnamon, and nuts, raisins, or chocolate chips if you want. Roll up the dough and then slice it. Place the cinnamon rolls on lightly greased cookie sheets and bake for 8-11 minutes. These won't come out as huge sticky buns. These are normally pretty small and not poofy, but they're still really good Post Date: 07/10/08, Replies: 9 | ||
| Condensed milk Hi all! Does anyone know of a vegan alternative to condensed milk? Way back when I used to make the best fudge but it has condensed milk in it. I'd like to make it again but veganised if that's possible. If anyone could help me out it'd be greatly appreciated. Post Date: 04/22/12, Replies: 7 | ||
| Cooking classes - Bangkok / Viet Nam I received this mail last week from Cat_Moonstone. Hi I saw you restaurant reviews on Happy Cow so hope you don't mind me dropping you a line. I'm going to be visiting Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, I leave in November. I was wondering if, during your time in Ho Chi Minh City, you've found any good cookery courses for vegetarians/vegans? If you have any recommendations, I'd really appreciate it if you'd drop me a line. Thanks for your time. Cat Post Date: 10/22/07, Replies: 2 | ||
| Cooking Tips Of All Time 1. Always make stock in a large quantity and freeze it in plastic bags. That way, when you want to make a nice soup or boil veggies, you can simply pull the bag out of the freezer. 2. After working with garlic, rub your hands vigorously on your stainless steel sink for 30 seconds before washing them. It will remove the odor. 3. When chopping herbs, toss a little salt onto the cutting board; it will keep the herbs from flying around. 4.Recipes are only a guideline, not the Bible. Feel comfortable replacing ingredients with similar ingredients that you like. If you like oregano but not thyme, use oregano. Post Date: 03/05/15, Replies: 2 | ||

| Creamier Hummus?! What do you think? To make your hummus creamier, you can remove the skins. So I want to ask you, is it worth making the hummus creamier if you lose all that incredible fiber? I'm just wondering because I'm making a batch now from the book bit.ly/easyvegan Check it out, it has some pretty good snack recipes that I want to try. Post Date: 12/18/14, Replies: 2 | ||

| diabetic and for everyone else Beet/apple/ginger salad: * wash, quarter and steam 2 large beets until skin can be easily pierced with a fork. Remove skin. Cut each quarter into fourths (easier to eat) *grate 1 red apple (best size is medium size grate of a four-sided grater) *thumb-sized chunk ginger, peeled and grated (use same grate size as apple) few pinches sea salt Combine all in a large bowl and blend Dressing: juice of 1 or 2 lemons 2-3 drops stevia clear liquid Combine both in a small cup. Taste should be tart, yet sweet. Blend well with salad ingredients. Wait at least 30 minutes for flavors to blend. Prepared as a Raw Salad: Choose beets that are soft. (In this way, they are sweeter and easier to digest.) Follow same instructions above. *Dash of Wisdom: Beet cleanses the blood which improves circulation; apple is cleansing and beneficial for the liver and gall bladder, actually softening gallstones. | flexible meals Hi everyone! Looking for some suggestions... I am vegan, but my husband is a full-on meat eater... So far, our agreement has been that we'll have our daughter try a bit of what each of us eats and as she matures, we'll each explain our personal choices and let her decide for herself when she's old enough to do so. I tend to do the bulk of our cooking and I really do prefer us to eat as a family, so I've got a few staple meals that I'm able to make for all of us with just a few tweaks (i.e., tacos, spaghetti, pizza, burgers...) but I'm looking to expand our menu options and I'd really love some feedback. Do you all have any meal suggestions that are easily adaptable for different diets? Occasionally I'll also adapt by simply making common side dishes and two proteins... my husband will have a grilled chicken breast with our rice and veggies, while I have some tofu or something, get it? | gluten free vegan cake tastes uncooked? hi can anyone with experience baking gluten free vegan cakes please help? why does my coconut lemon cake tastes uncooked? it kinda tastes abit sticky and abit floury... i used almond meal, coconut shreds, polenta, tapioca flour and a gluten free flour (maize, rice, tapioca), almond milk, lemon juice, grapeseed oil and pretty much all the other ingredients from the recipe. it was not a gluten free recipe but i substituted the other ingredients for the flour. the only 2 things i thought may have affected the cake was that i added tapioca flour and also after the mixture was mixed up it was so dry it looked like cookie dough. so i up an extra little bit of almond milk into it... could these things have messed up my cake? it was baked for 45mins in a 175 degree C oven it tastes ok but just alittle uncooked... this was my first attempt at baking a cake. any help would be appreciated. :) Post Date: 10/06/12, Replies: 0 | ||

| Green Smoothies Any recipes to share? I've only been doing smoothies for about 2 weeks now but I've found I really like it. It's a great way to eat your veggies and fruits and easy, too. No chewing required! Here's a very simple one I started with: 2 cups raw spinach leaves (whole) 4-6 strawberries (tops off) Half a banana A little bit of water Blend the fruits & the water first and then add the spinach leaves a small handful at a time, blending in between until smooth. Then drink. :) You can make a smoothie as simple or complex as you want. My current blender is pretty tiny though so I keep the ingredients pretty basic with a 3 fruit/veg combo. | Healthy eating and food waste Hi everybody, I've recently started a project to help busy people having a healthier lifestyle, cook better, and reduce food waste. Given I have switched to mainly vegan and veggie food since I started to care about what I put into my body I was hoping more similar minded people are interested/willing to help. If anyone can/want, I have created a 5min questionnaire strictly food related (no contact info required, no age/income/profession info asked) that I will be grateful if anyone can fill. Thanks to anyone who can help. https://el20.typeform.com/to/Mrkifi Post Date: 09/24/15, Replies: 3 |
