Vegan Pad Thai 2 tbsp coconut oil Rice Noodles 1 tbsp Tamari soy sauce 1/4 tsp ginger 1/2 tsp curry powder 1/2 cup sliced red/yellow peppers 1 tbsp peanuts 10 1 inch chunks of gluten 2 green onions 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper dash each salt and black pepper 1/2 tsp cilantro mushrooms(whatever kind you prefer that fits, Ive been using brown clamshell with great results) optional: tamarind paste 1/4 tsp garlic a dash of crushed red peppers Soak the noodles in hot water for 10 minutes, while heating up a large frying pan or wok. Once the pan is hot melt the coconut oil in it, and throw in the gluten and peanuts. Season this with 1/4 tsp of the curry powder and stirfry while the noodles are softening. Mix in the garlic, sliced peppers and chopped green onion and continue to stirfry on medium. Drain the noodles and add them to the stirfy makeing sure they get covered evenly in oil. The noodles will soak up the oil and when that happens add the soy sauce. Add the mushrooms. Season with crushed red pepper, ginger, curry, cilantro, b. pepper, caynne, salt and continue to stirfry on low until noodles become slightly caramelized and the dish is evenly coated in it's seasonings. holding vitamix still = bad? on vitamix Have you heard of the saying that you shouldn't tightly hold down the jar because letting it wiggle actually lessens the stress on the motor? why is this? Always hold it down and if you were to just let it really wiggle around especially when I am furiously plunging the tamper Post Date: 05/10/13, Replies: 2
Vegan Muffin Ideas I am having a meeting with my team at work later this week and was thinking I would bring in food. I don't want to get to crazy and do tofu scramble since none of them are even vegetarians let alone Vegan. Being Vegan I cannot bring myself to buy them cruelty filled breakfast burritos let alone make them myself. I was thinking muffins would be a great idea as they are easy to make, transport and I don't have to keep them warm for the 2-3 hours I am at work before my team. Does anyone have any Vegan muffin recipe that is to die for? Cheers, Moe Post Date: 11/01/14, Replies: 2
noegg recipe? Hello! Usually I make cakes without this ingredient but I found it in a regular supermarket and I felt like buying it, the problem is that I don't know how to use it! Maybe I need a non-vegan recipe and just replace the egg? Some idea about cakes or other meals with "noegg"? Thank you ^^ Post Date: 04/28/14, Replies: 2
Vegan Dumpling recepie? Hi there, I am looking for a vegan recipe for traditional German Knödel or Eastern European potato dumplings, and was wondering if anyone could help me out - I'm unsure what to use as an egg replacement, in sweet cooking I tend to use either oil or bananas. But as this is a savory dish, it's new territory for me. Love and Peace Post Date: 08/22/14, Replies: 2
Cooking Tips Of All Time 1. Always make stock in a large quantity and freeze it in plastic bags. That way, when you want to make a nice soup or boil veggies, you can simply pull the bag out of the freezer. 2. After working with garlic, rub your hands vigorously on your stainless steel sink for 30 seconds before washing them. It will remove the odor. 3. When chopping herbs, toss a little salt onto the cutting board; it will keep the herbs from flying around. 4.Recipes are only a guideline, not the Bible. Feel comfortable replacing ingredients with similar ingredients that you like. If you like oregano but not thyme, use oregano. Post Date: 03/05/15, Replies: 2

Soy free options? Hi everyone, I'm new here, and trying to come up with some vegan or vegetarian recipes that do not include soy, as I've been instructed by my doctor to stop eating soy products. I guess I have been in a convenience rut, and didn't realize how many vegan convenience foods I was relying on, and they are almost 100% soy-based. So, if anyone has any good soy-free products, as well as tips for what to do with them, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks, Danielle Post Date: 01/10/16, Replies: 2
Leftover rice Not sure what to do with leftover rice? Preferably white rice… One trick I learned is to mix the rice with coconut milk, cinnamon, dates/raisins and/or bananas to make a delicious rice pudding dessert. Any other ideas? Post Date: 03/22/16, Replies: 2

THE EXOTIC RICE DISH – THE BIRIYANI The Biriyani means "fried" or "roasted"in Persian. Biriyani is a family of Middle Eastern, South Asian dishes made from a mixture of spices, rice (usually basmati), meat/vegetables and yogurt. There are many kinds of biryanis and each kind has a uniqueness about it. Pre-mixed biryani spices from different commercial names are easily available in markets these days, which reduces the preparation time though the taste differs considerably. So it is easy to make them now. Earlier the chefs used to take hours to cook this special dish. Even now the Biriyani when cooked by an Indian at home will take hours and the result will be stupendous. The spices and condiments used in biryani are what primarily contribute to the taste; these are generally cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, wasabi, bay leaves, coriander and mint leaves, apart from ghee, ginger, onions, garlic and yoghurt. The premium varieties include saffron. For a non-vegetarian biryani, the main ingredient that accompanies the spices is the meat—beef, chicken, goat, lamb,or shrimp, though vegetable biryani varieties are also popular. The dish is served with raita, korma, curry or a sour dish of brinjal. Hyderabadi Biryani is by far the most popular version non-vegetarian type, especially in India and the Middle East Hyderabadi biryani is savoured in all parts of India and forms an integral part of Indian Food. Historians claim that the earlier Nawabs of Punjab wore a matching turban for each variety of biryani. The Nizam's kitchen boasted of 49 kinds, which included biryani made from fish, quail, shrimp, deer and hare. The Sindhi variant of biryani is very popular in Pakistani cuisine and biryani of all types are eaten in all parts of Pakistan. Another popular form of biryani is the Awadhi biryani. In North India, biryani enjoys substantial popularity. This is especially the case inpublic function, where the chicken version is popular with both young and old alike as a dish of choice. This is related to Awadh biryani but combines elements of Bombay biryani and includes potatoes. Tehari is the name given to the vegetarian version of the dish and is very popular in Indian homes. In Bangladesh, Tehari refers to Biryani prepared by adding the meat to the rice, as opposed to traditional Biryani where the rice is added to the meat. The vegetarian version might have some Textured vegetable protein based protein balls to present the impression of a meat-based dish for vegetarians. The difference between biryani and pullao is that while pulao may be made by cooking the items together, biryani, is used to denote a dish where the rice is cooked separately from the other ingredients. Making stock secrets adding stock from intant cubes can be dull and monotonous they, companies that i find in the supermarkets, have a monopoly on the market and sell only one brand. And the other way is easy and you throw away the water used otherwise. For boiling vegtables use a smal amount of water- soluble vitamins and minerals are destroied by large amounts. you then add hot notboiling water to bring it up to the needed stockvolume. to liven up dishes try adding vinegar, wine green tea any alchol along with stock -stronger tasting liquids in les volume. Tofu Marsala Chicken marsala was always one of my favorites. But mainly because of the tasty marsala mushrooms. I made marsala last night for my family and then made a vegan version for myself by pressing and freezing a portion of tofu for a bit then smearing some olive oil on it and breading it with plain bread crumbs that i seasoned and fried it on either side a bit. I made the recipe exactly the same as i normally would but with the substitution of chicken broth for veggie broth. OMG i was in heaven, it was so delicious. I also made the most amazing pickled/sweet and sour red cabbage with spices like cinnamon, ginger, allspice and a cut up apple. so delish, im having the leftover cabbage for lunch today. quick desert/snack/breakfast recipie this is something i tried today and it was delicious :]. but a little messy; I'm still working out details in the recipe such as time in the microwave. these are estimates. this is just a quick and fun idea. Honey Peanut Butter Banana Burrito *wow thats a tongue twister* Ingredients: Peanut Butter *for protein* Flour Tortilla (not sure about the ingredients as far as vegans are concerned! sorry!) Banana *for potassium* Honey *for anti-oxidants* (vegans could use syrup in place of this) Directions: heat the tortilla for about 20 seconds in the microwave to warm it up. then spread some peanut butter *i use smooth but crunch could work* on the tortilla. since it was heated it will spread fairly easily. Then drizzle on some honey and put back in the microwave for 11 more seconds. Next slice part of a banana into it; wrap it up; and enjoy :]. It is quite possible one of the most delicious things I've ever had. though its kind of runny and messy; so keep some napkins at hand :]. Post Date: 04/12/10, Replies: 1
Tofu press? Hi all. I live in the UK and am searching for a tofu press. I have bought one of the white plastic ones and the lid is just odd so it is unsatisfactory and doesn't press well. I have searched everywhere for one of the nice stainless steel ones but have had no luck. Anyone know where I can get one on line please? All help appreciated as I have finally got a soy milk maker which is the expensive part and have now got this as a stumbling block! Thanks in advance:) Post Date: 04/15/09, Replies: 1
