Searching for copies of lost recipes.... Perhaps there are others of you out there who have also lost recipes you really enjoyed. I'm hoping we can help each other. My mother used to make a vegetarian bulgur casserole that was from Susan St. James. I believe it was published in a magazine sometime in the 1970s. If any of you know of it and have a copy, I'd really appreciate it if you would share it. Thanks! Post Date: 08/04/15, Replies: 0

Veg-friendly chefs on Youtube? Hello people, I`m new here but would like to try out new recipes and learn. So, my question to you is if you would recommend any youtube channels and people that cook healthy, fast and not so expensive dishes? So far I`m following Jamie Oliver, Hilah Cooking and Laura in the Kitchen. Any other suggestions I should check out and try? P.S That's an idea to feature on the HappyCow channel. Why not add a cooking section in it? Post Date: 06/19/15, Replies: 13

Chicken Seitan Texture I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on how to get the meat like texture of white meat chicken in my seitan. I've made seitan and it comes out smooth without much of a grain. When I've eatan chicken seitan at restaurants the grain was so perfect you could not tell you weren't eating real meat other than there were no bones. I would appreciate any tips or help on how to create that texture. Thanks Post Date: 05/22/15, Replies: 0

Can I make this bread in a bread machine? Please excuse my bread making ignorance; I don't do much baking at all. I've used a bread maker a total of three times recently to make gluten-free vegan bread for my partner. I want to make a recipe(today) for myself that is meant to be made in one of those little..bread..pans. I don't have any such thing so I want to attempt to make it in the bread maker. Please tell me how(what settings, if it's even possible, etc). Thanks! Recipe: familynature.ca/vegan-lemon-loaf/ Lemon Loaf 2 cups all purpose flour 1 3/4 cups sugar 1 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt zest of one or two lemons (optional) 2/3 cup lemon juice (fresh is best, but the other stuff is good too) 2/3 cup vegan milk (I used vanilla soy milk) 1/4 cup oil 1 tsp vanilla extract Lemon Glaze 1 cup icing sugar 3 tbsp lemon juice Preheat oven to 350?. Prepare a loaf pan with dairy-free cooking spray and line the bottom with parchment paper. Whisk flour, sugar, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl. In a separate bowl combine lemon zest, lemon juice, vegan milk, oil and vanilla extract. Add to dry ingredients and mix until combined. Scrape the batter into the loaf pan. Bake for about 60 minutes or until a tester comes out clean. Let sit in the pan for a few minutes, then turn it upside down on a rack to cool. Once cooled, combine the ingredients for the lemon glaze and pour over the loaf. Post Date: 03/23/15, Replies: 3
Vegan Cream in the US??? I've been searching like crazy for some kind of unsweetened vegan cream, to use in creamy pasta sauces etc. Does that kind of stuff even exist in the US? There are so many different types in Sweden, can't seem to find any over here :( Post Date: 03/07/15, Replies: 1

Cooking Tips Of All Time 1. Always make stock in a large quantity and freeze it in plastic bags. That way, when you want to make a nice soup or boil veggies, you can simply pull the bag out of the freezer. 2. After working with garlic, rub your hands vigorously on your stainless steel sink for 30 seconds before washing them. It will remove the odor. 3. When chopping herbs, toss a little salt onto the cutting board; it will keep the herbs from flying around. 4.Recipes are only a guideline, not the Bible. Feel comfortable replacing ingredients with similar ingredients that you like. If you like oregano but not thyme, use oregano. Post Date: 03/05/15, Replies: 2
Where do I find gluten free soy mince? Seems like all the soy minces over here (I'm not from the US) have wheat in them, which I can't eat :( Where can I find 100% soy mince (the dried stuff that needs soaking) and are there any brands that make this vacuum packed mince without all the additives and wheat etc? Thanks a lot! Post Date: 03/05/15, Replies: 0
Chocolate Cranberry Almond Clusters Today I tried the chocolate cranberry almond clusters. I made it for my husband who made a specific request for it. YUM! He is so impressed! So I just thought to share with you all. These are the ingredients I used. -American Heritage Chocolate Block -1/2 cup of dried cranberries -1/2 cup of whole almonds - chopped & toasted In a bowl, combine the cranberries and almonds. Spoon out about 1 tablespoon clusters onto a baking sheet and allow it to spread. Keep it for 10 minutes in the refrigerator, serve and store at room temperature. Melt the chocolate (I used a double broiler to do that). Mix it with the cranberries and almonds. I’m sure all chocolate lovers gonna love it just as my husband did. Between, do you see the Steve and Chris show on CBC? I’m a fan of that programme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZPw_2q7Uiw . Watch this episode, it’s Giddy Yo Yo ( www.giddyyoyo.com/ ) preparing chocolate recipe this time and I think it’s a great show for people who are hunters of chocolate recipes. Losing weight the vegan way - How? I used to struggle with going dairy-free as I love milk and cheese. What helped me is the support system I have at home starting with my hubby. We had a talk as a family, discussed with our teens and outlining the reason why there's gonna be a big change in our meals and the benefits we will all enjoy if we forgo dairy products. The kids were supportive. Nothing more excites them than going through recipes after recipes as a family each Sunday to prepare the meals for the entire week ahead. My daughter just got hold of Dieting the Santa Barbara Way book and the recipes are perfect for vegetarian and vegans. As I am also trying to lose weight while leading a much healthier life, I wonder if there's any tips or suggestions you can share with me. Thanks! Post Date: 01/18/15, Replies: 5
Multiple recipes, same ingredients. Hi, I'm new to being a vegetarian (and so far loving it by the way :) I just wondered if anybody has a good few different recipes for dinner meals that I could make out of one same set of ingredients (give or a take a few)...as I'm on a tight budget, and would find it helpful to only have to buy one big set of ingredients to start until I've learnt more new veggie recipes. Anything anybody could tell me would be really helpful. Thanks in advance :) Post Date: 01/18/15, Replies: 3
LiveIn Vegan Cook Wanted Caribbean Island I am looking for someone to cook healthy, simple meals for myself and my husband in exchange for room and board on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. What I am asking for is 15 hours per week. That's 3 hours/day, 5 days/week of meal prep and light house-cleaning. We will pay well if you go over 15 hours. You would get 2 days off to go to the beach, or get a part-time job, or whatever. If we need you to do more than 15 hours, we will pay you for the hours over 15. We live at SunDog House (sundoghouse.com). Interested persons please contact us through our website. Post Date: 01/13/15, Replies: 0
Creamier Hummus?! What do you think? To make your hummus creamier, you can remove the skins. So I want to ask you, is it worth making the hummus creamier if you lose all that incredible fiber? I'm just wondering because I'm making a batch now from the book bit.ly/easyvegan Check it out, it has some pretty good snack recipes that I want to try. Post Date: 12/18/14, Replies: 2
In Search of A Beginner's Vegan Cookbook I'm slowly transitioning, but I'm looking for a vegan cookbook geared towards someone who has never cooked vegan dishes before. A lot of the ingredients in some of the books, I've never even heard of, and I have no idea how to properly cook it... I just want some easy meals that taste great. Once I get the hang out it, I'd like more complex ones. I also enjoy seeing photos in cookbooks which I haven't see much of in any of the ones I've seen. I've tried Engine 2 Kitchen Rescue, Oh She Glows, Forks over Knives and Ani's Raw Food Essentials. I just want something easy to understand!! Simple, simple, simple! Post Date: 12/10/14, Replies: 7
Vegan Muffin Ideas I am having a meeting with my team at work later this week and was thinking I would bring in food. I don't want to get to crazy and do tofu scramble since none of them are even vegetarians let alone Vegan. Being Vegan I cannot bring myself to buy them cruelty filled breakfast burritos let alone make them myself. I was thinking muffins would be a great idea as they are easy to make, transport and I don't have to keep them warm for the 2-3 hours I am at work before my team. Does anyone have any Vegan muffin recipe that is to die for? Cheers, Moe Post Date: 11/01/14, Replies: 2
