Please don't make same mistake I made I was so healthy and I always bragging about my health for many years but recently, I wake up several times at night to go bathroom to urinate. There are many natural remedies for old people who are suffering from same problem I am suffering. Many people found solution to this problem by eating pumpkin seeds or pumpkin seeds extract with soy. Few weeks ago, I ordered pumpkin seeds from www.ohnuts.com and ate almost one package of seeds (one package = one pound) in few days. Guess what? After I finish eating these pumpkin seeds, I start having horrible bloating. When I checked ingredients, canola oil and or cotton seeds oil are part of ingredients. Canola oil and cotton seeds oils are from genetically modified plants and heavily splayed with pesticide. I really start worrying about my health after I consumed pumpkin seeds from above company knowing nobody knows for sure exactly what kind of negative effect on my health. It is so scarly about consumption of Genetically Modified food we eat but knowing so many foods contain wheat, soy, corn, canola and cotton seeds oil, etc, it is so difficult for us to avoid foods conatain GMO. Please read ingredients before you buy foods and avoid GMO as much as you can. [email protected] [email protected] Post Date: 02/04/11, Replies: 4
Raw Food Diet Depending on the maker, a raw matter fast is either a itinerary to perfect eudaimonia or to serious undernourishment. The truth is somewhere in the midriff. Devotees posit that a diet consisting mainly of uncooked, unstrained pass foods leads to a leaner embody, clearer peel, and higher vigour. They also judge it cuts the danger of disease. But what exactly is a raw content fast? Is masses a raw food fasting whole? Can anyone become a raw foodist? Feature on for whatever answers. What Is a Raw Food Diet? The fundamental precept behindhand raw food and raw food diet, also sometimes called rawism, is that lay foods in their most unaffected denote - uncooked and unfinished - are also the most alimentary for the embody. The raw food diet is a manner superior. It is not a metric exit thought. Sticking to a raw food diet isn't promiscuous. Most raw foodists expend a lot of time in the kitchen peeling, chopping, exertion, merging, and dehydrating. That's because the fast is typically prefab up of 75% fruits and vegetables. Staples of the raw nutrient diet include: " seaweed " sprouts " sprouted seeds " whole grains " beans " dried fruits " nuts Fuel, gentlemanlike sugars, and caffeine are taboo. Most raw foodists are raw nutrient vegans, who eat no animallike products, but whatever do eat raw foodstuff and mallow prefabricated from raw or unpasteurized river. How Do Raw Foodists Read Meals? Raw foodists do not fix using a traditional stove or oven. They use food dehydrators that loan compressing to vegetables and cookies. Matter dehydrators also dry out fruits for production leather and opposite raw nutrient recipes. Try surfboarding the Cyberspace for raw food direction ideas. Web sites, including recipezaar.com, welikeitraw.com, and living-foods.com, all get collections of raw food recipes. The dehydrator entirety with temperature, but temperatures cannot be higher than 115 to 118 degrees. Raw foodists anticipate luxuriously alter leaches enzymes and vitamins appraising for prim digestion. The Inhabitant Dietetical Association challenges this declaration. It says the body -- not what goes in it -- produces the enzymes needful for digestion. The ADA also says cooking nutrient below 118 degrees may not end slanderous, food-borne microorganism. Raw vs. Parched Examination literature on the raw nutrient fast is scant. Research tends to focussing vegetarianism and veganism and the health benefits of a plant-based fasting, among them lower cholesterin and wagerer glucose levels. A few studies do happen to stake up the belief that cooking vegetables tends to kill fundamental nutrients. One showed that intake raw, cruciferous vegetables (such as pinch, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cole) may slenderize the risk of sac someone. Researchers noted that cookery cruciferous vegetables robs them of their isothiocyanates, agents that desexualize proteins in mortal cells. They found that modify a few helpings a period of raw crucifers seems to lour the attempt. Other study that reviewed findings of roughly 50 scrutiny studies on the raw versus overdone disputation showed that eating raw vegetables helps shrink the risk of examination, pharyngeal, laryngeal, esophageal, and stomachal cancers. Next Level Health Tips Here are a few ideas on how to take it to the next level! First, it is vitally important to get clean water from a spring or deep well, to bottle in glass. It's also good to drink a good amount of water to stay hydrated. I also recommend reading and staying on point with nourishing material, from superfood guru, David Wolfe, to Bridgette Mars. Another cool idea is add in superfoods, meaning foods with high levels of real natural nutrition, like Lucuma, you only need a teaspoon to tablespoon. Camu Camu Berry is some of highest Vitamin C known. Goji Berries for a large spectrum of minerals and Vitamin C, you only need 5 or 6 berries a day. Also, get from top level supply. Raw Cacao is also awesome, great for many body nourishment. Kale is excellent for vegans and vegatarians due to it's high level of Iron. I recommend, detoxing in Saunas and/or by sweating. In todays society there are an abundance of toxins from stress and numerous other sources. Therefore, to allow the lymph system to flush by sweating may be a good idea. I have put together some of the best nutrition foods in the world and of the highest quality available, not for business, but for everyone's health. You can check it out at amoraeashop dot com. We ship to your door! I highly recommend our Rainbow Smoothie Mix, totally amazing and my best friends love it. I also recommend outdoors, sunshine, and a good book. Thank You for being beautiful, even if your not trying. Blessings Post Date: 11/02/12, Replies: 4
Can eating a veggie diet help RA symptoms? Hi! I'm a new vegetarian & Happy Cow member who has mild to moderate Rheumatoid Arthritis. Has anyone experienced (or heard of) any positive effects of a vegetarian/vegan diet on RA/RA symptoms? Thanks! Post Date: 03/25/12, Replies: 4
Heart palpitations and extreme cold Hey there lovely people, I am looking for answers from those more experienced than me......I have been a vegetarian for almost a year now (yay) and I have noticed that lately I am getting heart palpitations-to the point that I wake up at night- and am so very cold all the time-I wear three layers to bed and am STILL cold! I take Red iron, b12, b6 and recently have added magnesium. I am low in iron and vitamin d. Could this cause the heart palpitations? I also get muscle twitches and every bone cracks! I have looked on the internet for possible causes but my head spins at the number of things it could be related to. Could it be a calcium deficiency? Help-so confused!! Confused and Bewildered and discouraged I was going to start my first topic by writting "WTF", but wanted to be more reader friendly. Lol Anyway, just started eating primarily vegggie for 5 weeks. Juicing kale, granny apples, carrots, cucumbers and ginger for lunch (only) for past 5 weeks and but have not lost a single pound and my belly is still big, or maybe bigger! WTH (heck)! I change to monk fruit from sugar; been drinking green tea w/ lemon only, 1x per day; stopped eating red meat for 3 weeks straight; I even stopped eating bagels! In general, I've been eating healthier and expected to lose a lot of weight and belly by now. FYI, the juicing is without the pulp and not organic. I figured I still would have lost some weight regardless. Any thoughts what I may be doing wrong? Post Date: 06/18/14, Replies: 4

Books for a young vegetarian? Hi there... I just found this site and am hoping you all can help me! My daughter recently decided she wanted to be a vegetarian. She has been doing great (i am a long time veg so she's not a stranger). I was wondering if anyone could recommend some books bout the importance of nutrition and making smart choices. She is 10 years old, so they would need to be geared towards the 'tween set. I just want to make sure she understands that yes, french fries may be vegetarian, but they are still "sometimes" food and that her body needs higher quality food to grow strong and healthy. Obviously, I will guide her... But she is an avid reader and fascinated with health, so figured this would be a good way to open up the dialogue between us. In any case, do books like this exist? Or do I need to start writing one? Lol!!! Thank you kindly for any suggestions. Post Date: 11/20/14, Replies: 4

Vegan diet to help with back surgery? Namaste, I am a recent "convert" to veganism, many factors drew me towards it - health social awareness and it just made sense that it the real way I should eat. I am 44 and recently underwent a lower back surgery. I was 80lbs overweight before the surgery and when I "converted" to vegan lost 20 the two months prior to surgery. Fortunately the surgery was successful but I'm in a bit of pain which can be expected. However I know that extra 60lb I still have I need to permanently leave my body would help my back feel and recover better. With the healing I have going and the meds I am on I am limited to what I can do. Anyone have any thoughts the best approach to go about shedding the weight healthily. Been thinking a green smoothie fast fair a while or a mix of smoothies / raw salads / and bean soup. I'm a real newbie to this and looking for advice! Don't want too screw up the surgery plus really would feel better is I was not overweight. Post Date: 07/12/15, Replies: 4
new vegan - feeling drowsy on carbs Hi, I'm a new vegan (one month old) and I work as a post lady, so need plenty of calories. I've been eating a lot of pulses and millet with oils to get enough calories as well as plenty of vegetables. (I easily lose weight if I don't eat enough). But I feel really sleepy soon after a main meal, and my joints have been aching a bit, and clicking. Any ideas of how I can adjust things to feel better? Thanks everyone. New Vegetarian in College - Help Needed I recently decided to go vegetarian and so far I have been meat-free for 3 whole days! I'm very excited about the change in my diet, but I am finding it very hard to get in enough protein in my diet. Additionally, I have Celiac's Disease and can't eat any gluten products. I cannot prepare any food, besides what can be warmed up in a microwave or what can be made in a blender, (I have a Magic Bullet.) I would really like to stick with it. I had always wanted to try being a vegetarian when I was younger, but it never really stuck. After watching Food Inc., my decision was solidified. I really need some help - what can I eat for protein, and what are some good snacks to keep on stock? I would really appreciate any input - thanks for the help everyone! New Vegetarian, Tips and Encouragement plz Hey everyone! My husband and I have recently decided to become vegetarians. I have been completely of of meat for two days. I had a little fish the 2 days prior to that. My husband is going for the gradual approach and is not completely off yet. I have been really excited for this new way of life and have done a lot of research. However, I was discouraged a bit today at work by a doctor that I really love. Can anyone tell me if they have had any health related problems(caused from going vegetarian) and what I can do to prevent any myself? I am hoping for a healthier lifestyle and have been a little upset by his comments. Any advice on this matter or tips in general would be greatly appreciated! Post Date: 10/10/15, Replies: 4
New vegan Hi I recently made the decision to become vegan for health reasons and would like to know what things should I eat to maintain a healthy lifestyle Post Date: 02/26/16, Replies: 4
Old vegan I have recently become a vegan and just kept an appointment with my cardiologist. She said being vegan would be the healthiest diet for the kind of heart condition I have, but she was concerned about the protein intake. According to her, older people lose muscle mass anyway and becoming a vegan could mean even more lost. And she thinks keeping track of the protein would be complicated. She wants me to eat fish three times a week and an egg twice a week. In everything vegan I have read, there is supposed to be enough protein in the diet. Does that go for elderly people too? I am 76 and have waited this long to decide to eat healthy. Now I am confused. I don't know whether to continue being vegan or give it up because of my doctor's advice. raw food article and weightloss Really Raw Weight Loss By Anne Kasper Imagine you can eat anything you want. Imagine you can eat as much as you want and not gain an ounce in most cases. Imagine losing between 6 - 25 lbs per week AND keeping if off! Imagine a diet of raw foods. Some with digestive or glandular disorders will not lose weight as quickly or easily, but they will usually still loss unnecessary weight. And their bodies will strive to heal on raw, live foods as it begins to re-balance, repair and rejuvenate. When first start eating raw foods, most people will need time to cleanse, detoxify and rebuild their digestive system before noticing substantial weight loss. Excess weight is not an isolated issue, but is part of your "whole being.” An imbalance in one part of the body effects your entire system. Weight is a “symptom” of what is going on with your elimination system, glandular system, emotions, sleep patterns, stress levels, liver, colon, skin, lungs, blood, spirit and “chi” or energy levels. The enzymes found naturally in whole, live, raw foods help with obesity at the "whole being" level. Enzymes do much more in your body than help digest food. Enzymes are responsible for every single chemical reaction in every single cell of your body. All your minerals, herbs, vitamins and hormones cannot do their jobs without enzymes. Your can't lift an arm or think one thought without the help of enzymes. In fact, you could say that enzymes are, biologically speaking, the source of life. A diet without a source of live enzymes is removed from the source of life. All removed from their source of life slowly begin to die. For us, that leads to dis-ease, excessive weight gain, depression - many of the maladies that plague the modern world today. One of the “magic bullets” for easy weight loss is simply the action of enzymes. For example, lipase, a fat splitting enzyme, is found abundantly in raw, live foods. However, few of us eat enough raw foods to get enough lipase to burn even a normal amount of fat, not to mention any excess. Lipase helps your body in digestion, fat distribution and fat burning for energy. Lipase breaks down and dissolves fat throughout the body. Without lipase, fat stagnates and accumulates. You can see it on your hips, thighs, buttocks and the stomach. Protease is another enzyme for maintaining a healthy body. Protease helps break down proteins and eliminate toxins. Eliminating toxins is essential when you are burning fat. Your body stores excess toxins in body fat. As your body begins to burn this fat the toxins are released into your system. This can sometimes cause water retention and bloating. Protease attacks and eliminates toxins. It is critical to have plenty of protease during fat loss. Common sense tells us that if you cannot get enough nutrition from the food you take in, which is what happens when you cook food, your body receives a signal that it needs to store fat to prevent starvation and will hold on to even more fat. It will also send a signal that you are hungry. This results in a vicious cycle of eating more and more and still feeling hungry. Combine the physical effects with the mental effects of poor digestion and insufficient enzymes with your natural reaction to all of this emotionally. You have dis-ease, mental, physical, emotional or spiritual and often, all four at once, because you are an integrated being. If you eat close to 100% fresh raw, whole foods, then you obtain adequate nutrition and enough enzymes to digest your foods properly. If you eat cooked foods, you'll be eating “dead foods” that have NO enzymes. Your body then must scavenge enzymes for digestion from other metabolic processes in your body, wasting energy and resources. However, living food enzymes will over time restore energy and stamina and rebuild your healthy metabolism of all nutrients, including fats. Today's modern lifestyle KILLS enzymes in more ways than just cooking food. Stress can damage enzymes. Food additives can kill them. Frequent air travel, work outs, coffee breaks, air pollution, food irradiation and poor sleep - all kill enzymes. No wonder we are enzyme deficient! Eating raw, live, enzyme-rich foods is more than just a weight loss or digestion issue - it affects your whole life, your whole being. When you eat living, raw foods you will begin your life of bliss. But the fact remains: the easiest, fastest and most natural weight loss program that also nourishes your body is raw, living, whole food Post Date: 03/19/08, Replies: 3

Piss Drinking- take care- risky in Canada! Personally I choose to drink pure water, teas, fruit juices & vegetable juices - I am not in favor of drinking my own urine or the urine of cows! Are there any "piss takers" here on HappyCow.net? Do you get "Chinese AUT urges" or "Morarji Desai moments"? http://www.lifepositive.com/Body/traditional-therapies/urine-therapy.asp Excerpt - + According to Xinhua news agency more than three million Chinese drink their own urine believing that it is good for their health. AUT (Auto-Urine Therapy) is an ancient practice as it finds mention in many old texts of India such as Shivambhu Kalpa Vidhi and Damar Tantra. Shivambhu literally means water of Lord Shiva, a Hindu God. Urine therapists often speak of drinking Shivambhu, which means drinking the water of auspiciousness. Former Prime Minister of India Morarji Desai, who lived up to the age of 99, has been the most well known proponent of this therapy. He claimed that India would have been better off if more people used this extremely inexpensive and effective way of treatment. He also attributed to AUT the credit for his longevity. + The US Military recommend against it if you a soldier gets lost in Iraq / Afghanistan - so John McCain & General David Petraeus are also probably "dead against it" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urophagia Excerpt - + It has been suggested that when a person is in desert survival or surrounded by salt water and devoid of drinking water that the person must resort to drinking his/her own urine if it is the only liquid available. As it tends to cause further dehydration due to the salts in it, drinking urine for survival is advised against by the US Army Field Manual,.............. + Amazon.com now has a whole section of their company dedicated to it - http://www.amazon.com/Books-about-Auto-Urine-Therapy-AUT/lm/25346DLFEDEQJ Though if you do decide to buy any of the books please always enter Amazon through the HappyCow link - so that your piss drinking benefits the HappyCows also - http://www.amazon.com/?&tag=happycow-20&camp=211493&creative=376649&linkCode=ez&adid=1G8YKQBJJ3NR282V1GZY& In India drinking cow's urine AKA "taking the piss of the Mother" is almost the norm - http://www.business-india.in/articles.php?file=gomutra.php However be careful, be careful, be careful not to develop mad cow disease - especially if you are a cow urine drinker living in or visiting Canada - http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601082&sid=aKJgvMj2o_LQ&refer=canada + Urine Has Clue That May Lead to Mad Cow Test, Scientists Say + By Stefanie Batcho-Lino Sept. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Canadian scientists have discovered a way to detect mad cow disease in urine, a finding that could lead to the first test for the infection in live animals. Researchers, working with Germany's Research Institute for Animal Health, found that changes in the level of a certain protein in cattle urine signaled the presence of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, more commonly known as mad cow disease, Canadian health officials said today in a statement. Presently animals can only be diagnosed with mad cow after death. Canada confirmed its 14th case of mad cow disease on Aug. 15, which sent cattle futures lower. Last year, the U.S. lifted most of its restrictions on Canadian beef and cattle after determining the animals pose ``minimal risk'' for BSE. People can get the disease by eating meat from infected animals. ``We are hopeful that at some point in the future the knowledge gained from this study will make it possible to test live cattle,'' Dr. David Knox, a scientist at the laboratory and lead researcher on the study published in Proteome Science, said in the statement. The scientists analyzed the proteins in urine samples taken from four infected and four healthy cows. They also found that increases in the amount of protein corresponded with progression of mad cow disease in the animals, the statement said. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Quote by Morarji Desai - "One has got to choose between the two evils, also between the lesser of the two evils in the matter of food, and therefore vegetarian food has got to he taken by man in order to sustain human life." http://www.indianpoliticians.com/profile/9/ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Post Date: 09/01/09, Replies: 3
Improving Gall Bladder Health I repeatedly get gall stones forming in my gall bladder, I've been told that my gall bladder is 'sick' and doesn't function effectively at contracting and draining the bile out. I've been told there is no way to help this and it will only worsen. Does anyone know of any effective ways of improving gall bladder health please and reducing the formation of stones. I mostly stick to a low fat diet, but eat oily fish and nuts. Has anyone out there managed to improve the health of their gall bladder or no longer gets stones (or at least problem stones) without removing the gall bladder? Many thanks Post Date: 11/17/10, Replies: 3
Vegetarian diet not working for me? Hi all I have experimented with the vegetarian diet for a few months now. I am 17 years old and I wanted to do it for the "ethical" reason. Sadly I can clearly notice that I clearly do not "thrive" on this at all diet. I have gained weight on the vegetarian diet (normal range) but I do not feel good at all on it. My energy levels are just the same or even lower than when I was an omni. Most of the time after I eat I don't feel fully satiated, I feel more like 90% satiated and I continue to think about food. I think about food too much and I become irritable sometimes. I have tried adding fish to my diet, and I felt better. But after 3 days of eating fish, I haven't eaten any today and I feel bad again. What could be wrong? I eat a decent variety of food and I also eat eggs and cheese daily. Maybe this diet is not for me? I used to eat a high meat diet before January 2009. I think I'm getting enough protein. I do some weight training and my strength is just the same or even better than before. My iron levels are normal and I also get enough zinc. I added flax seeds for Omega 3, but didn't feel better. So what could be the problem? I'm interested in your opinions, maybe somebody else has/had the same problem? Post Date: 11/13/09, Replies: 3
Be careful about soy products! www.cornucopia.org/soysurvey/ As we all know most corn, soy, canola oil, cotton seeds oil. etc are genetically modified. How many of you carelessly bought non organic foods contain genetically modified ingredients? I am one of them who wasted my $$$$ on GMO foods and end up throwing away in trash can. Sad part is before I throw away these foods I ate it and now I am worrying about damage caused by eating GMO foods. Post Date: 02/04/11, Replies: 3

Vegan Protein Powders Many vegetarians and vegans have come to me and asked what they should be using to increase their daily protein intake given their strict dietary constraints. Soy has been a leading source of protein for years, but we have now found other protein alternatives that are great tasting and offer excellent amino acid profiles to form complete proteins without the health concerns associated with soy. Powdered protein products are now available on the market that can take the place of soy, including pea protein isolates, rice protein concentrates, and hemp protein powders. Pea and rice proteins typically contain 80-90% protein per serving, with an amino acid profile that is easily comparable to a standard whey protein powder. Hemp protein will contain an average of 50-70% protein, but is also high in naturally-occurring omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. These materials are excellent additives to take on their own as a protein shake, or they can be added to baked goods of smoothies to help meet daily protein requirements. Vegan protein powders can be found through select online retailers and in most wholefoods and nutrition outlets. Post Date: 10/24/14, Replies: 3
Advice re: adolescent's diet My son is 12 and an intelligent boy with autism Asperger's syndrome. He's a lacto-vegetarian by his choice. He's struggled with gastritis all fall, after taking ibuprophen for a broken bone and relapsed a few weeks ago after taking some antibiotics for a day or two (had to quit b/c of vomiting and nausea). His diet is very limited and it is totally counter to what is recommended for chronic gastritis (high fruits/veggies, low fat, low sugar) -- he literally only eats hummus, chips, crackers, peanut butter, soynut butter and some cereal (Cheerios, Life), OJ, milk, apple juice, granola bars. When he got gastritis he stopped being able to eat powerbars w/soy protein. I need some advice about how bad this diet is for a 5'9" 170 lb 12 yr old -- right now he's only eating crackers and cereal b/c he's nauseated all the time. I'm at my wit's end and have come to this forum for help. Help! Post Date: 01/02/12, Replies: 3
Scared of Meat?!? :( Hey guys. Anyways, I've been a vegetarian since the age of 9 to 14. After half a decade of vegetarianism and malnutrition; I'm starting to feel weaker, more lightheaded, worse in general. I'm trying to eat healthy but the rest of my family eats meat, and neither I or they have time to create something healthy vegetarian wise. I'm thinking about temporarily getting back to eating fish at least 1 - 2 a week for the next half a decade or so, it just because I'm in the process of growing. Problem is, I'm too scared to even look at it, much less eat it. I need it, but I can't find myself getting to eat it. Any tips for comfronting my fear? I know this is a lame thread, but I searched on the Internet for solutions and I couldnt find any... Thank you :) Post Date: 05/07/12, Replies: 3
