Concerns about estrogen rumours I'll be frank; while I've tried some of my own research, all I've found are completely varied responses on my concerns with soy. From nutritionists to doctors to magazines, everyone seems to have a different take. I'm concerned with rumours(from both vegan and carnivorous sides) that soy and tofu have high levels of estrogen, which could pose potential health problems to whoever eats them. Does anyone have any information on this? I'll admit I'm suspicious this is just something cooked up by meat/dairy industries, but I can't help but be concerned. Any information would be greatly appreciated! -Alexandrs Post Date: 08/13/08, Replies: 27
Going OFF the Vegetarian Diet In the past years I've come across vegetarians and vegans who sad they "had to get off the vegetarian diet for health reasons." Has any one of you out there heard of this? Personally, I do believe that you have to listen to your body and feel what it wants. Although I advocate a vegetarian diet (for compassion towards the animals, for the sake of the environment, and for health reasons), I do also feel that not everyone can thrive on a vegetarian or vegan diet. But then again, there are MANY who thrive on a veggie diet. What do you guys think? Post Date: 08/03/09, Replies: 26
vegan stomach issues!! HELP :( So Ive been vegan for a year and a half and my stomach is a mess!!! The worse part is that I have no idea why! I eat a balanced diet and don't eat the same things eveyday. I know I need to just go to the doctor but Im trying to find a natural holistic doctor. Anyways I have diguestive issues after I eat veggies, soy products, ect really anything....and I have been this way since I went vegan. I have always had a bit of a weak stomach but not like this. I'm woundering if anyone else has had problems and if maybe it is just all the fiber?? Any advice from fellow vegans would be sooooo great because I don't know any other vegans besides my boyfriend and I. Post Date: 04/30/11, Replies: 23

Skin care question? I have a question regarding my skin. I've been a vegan for about 5 months now. Almost the entire time my face has been broken out with acne. I've always had a problem with acne, but never to this extent! I thought that eliminating dairy would have a positive effect on my skin, but it seems to have made it worse! Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestions of what I could add or eliminate from my diet? Without compromising my veganism of course! Post Date: 10/20/14, Replies: 20

Stomach always upset Okay, so I switched to a Vegan diet about a month or so ago. My stomach is upset every single day - is this normal? I have cut back on coffee thinking maybe it was the caffeine. Is there a transitional period? I also don't eat a lot of soy but I have an 8 ounce glass of soy milk everyday. Thanks! Post Date: 03/05/12, Replies: 17

Been Vegetarian 5 months whats wrong now? For the past two weeks I have been eating sweet things that I normally do not eat and have been indulging in snacks like tortilla chips, peanuts (too much) along with peanut butter and cookies. Is this a result of vitamin defincency? I have gained 5 pounds as a result of this binge and I really dont know how to stop it. I dont crave meat at all but Ive been told that I have to eat meat to maintain my calorie intake as well as my nutrients. Anyone please help, thank you! Post Date: 02/26/09, Replies: 14
Headache when switching to vegan? Hello lovely happy cow community! I'm a brand new vegan...four days. I've been a vegetarian for about a month, but the mountain of positive evidence for living a full vegan lifestyle have kept pilling higher and higher, and I finally decided that I couldn't ignore it anymore and needed to make the switch. In the change to vegan, I not only cut out dairy and other animal products, but also out refined sugars, corn bi-products, and most processed foods. Yesterday and today, I've had stomach pains and pretty severe headaches. Is this just part of the detox process? If so, any guesses on how long it should last? I drink plenty of water (10-12 cups/day), and I eat a wide variety of healthy, whole foods, so I really can't think of anything specifically wrong in my diet that could be causing these symptoms. Joint pain? Hello, I started a Vegan diet about 20day ago and now I am experiencing joint pain. I didn't increase my activity level and I have not changed my daily routine. It mainly in my hands and my knees, advil doesnt seem to do anything for me. I do have some relief with activity but my question really is am I am missing something in my diet that would cause this? Should i be adding a supplement? I have been finding nothing but negative reviews on the diet and not a lot of help. Post Date: 02/02/17, Replies: 14

Vegan Diet Effects on the Body I have recently become a vegan (less than a month), and was wondering what changes to expect from this transition as far as hair, skin, weight, bm, pms, mood etc. I'm a fairly active 24 year old female. I know all experiences will vary and each one depends on a lot of variables, but nonetheless, I would like to hear what others experienced and how they handled it. Thanks. Stomach issues since vegetarianism Hey there! I started going vegetarian for a project for Environmental Science class, and lately I've noticed that my stomach has been cramping on and off. It will go from mild to severe cramping. My doctor said it's because I'm overweight. I thought it was because of coffee, so I nixed the coffee. It still happens. Could someone please give me advice for what to do? Post Date: 10/28/14, Replies: 13
A Diet of Sun Light and Water Have you been following the story of Navenna Shine? She's a 65 year old woman who lives in Seattle. She's trying to emulate an obscure group of yogis known as the Breatharians, who supposedly had the ability to live on nothing more than sun light. Ms. Shine is now 33 days into her diet and has lost 20 pounds. Her goal is to be on this diet for SIX MONTHS. What do you think? Post Date: 10/08/14, Replies: 12
Got sick right afte becoming vegan. Right after I became vegan, I got sick. I don't think its relevant, but my family does, and I would like to prove them wrong, any subjections? Post Date: 06/18/14, Replies: 12
How do vegetarian's deal with vitamins? I know the answer to begin with: Eat well balanced meal with greens, fruits, grains, and legumes. Stay away from dairy, sugars, meat, and so forth. My question is: My son needs more vitamin A in his diet to help clear up the acne on his face -- doctor says... But when looking for vitamins, and I thought I was up on all this, most vitamins are made with gelatin which is meat based. OM GOSH!!! We looked at the dry ones and it is made with fish oils and so forth. Do you vegans / vegetarians that say you are one, eat the properly made vitamins or are you ignorant to it as I was? I tossed out my E, multi vitamin, and so forth. I was stupid and ill-informed. So we now go to four exceptional health food stores in our area, and looking closer at their vitamin section, we noticed that 98% of everything they carry is NOT for the vegetarian community. The irony of this is that the manufactures of these products have misleading company names like NATURES WAY, and so forth. They had a beta carotene that will work, but the other 12 beta carotene products contain gelatin and other animal products. So what do you do for your vitamins? Omega 3's come from plant life as well... Post Date: 10/06/10, Replies: 11
Natural control of blood pressure I like any advice and direction that anyone could provide on natural ways to help lower high blood pressure. I'm a Vegan, and would greatly like to get off my pills and into natural and organic ways to keep my blood pressure down. I've just begun to use Yoga for stress reduction, and breathing for control, but anything additional I could do to get it under control would be greatly appreciated. Post Date: 10/20/14, Replies: 11
Possible B12 Vitamin Problem Hey everyone! I'm new here and I've been having a issue that I think might be related to lack of vitamin or a possible overdose. I'm 22 and a vegetarian, but I don't eat cheese or a lot of dairy. I have been taking a multivitamin for vegetarians for awhile now, which has basically everything including the B vitamins in it like B12. I also just started taking a B12 supplement. The type that you put under your tongue to dissolve. Every since I started them (it's been a couple of weeks now), I have been feeling a vibration through my body. I'm not shaking , but it feels like I am inside. It's hard to fall asleep and sit still. I led it back to the start of the B12 supplement so I stopped taking them yesterday, but I'm still experiencing vibration. I'm hoping that it fades. I also deal with anxiety at times too. I have an appointment with my doctor next week, but I was curious if anyone had any information on this that could help. Thanks Post Date: 03/15/13, Replies: 11
Diet and EXERCISE Details: So being vegan is really a great building block for long term health. But as we always hear, diet is no substitute for exercise. So I'd like to start an thread asking about what you do for exercise, and if you are among those who don't exercise, for people to chime in as to what you can do to start healthily. I do a lot of hiking. I am able to do miles with elevation gain/ inclines relatively well despite a recent lapse of exercise. I also love top play bball and soccer, but I haven't played these in a while since you need to organize others more for those to play. I have friends who have a hard time to go on hikes since they are out of shape. The hikes really hurt on their inclines, whereas I can sing while going through it. Does anyone have any suggestions for those who have a hard time getting in shape? I feel fortunate I have never had bronchial issues, so asthmatics who have overcome their issue to get in shape are more than welcome to chime in. Aiming for well-rounded health... Vegan Friendly Doctors So I've visited my new doctor twice now and he has insisted (both times) that my health problems are due to my vegan diet. I know with great confidence that my diet helps my condition and that eating meat/dairy would make it worse. I decided to search the web for doctors but there doesn't seem to be too much information out there (for Chicago). The last thing I want to do is call several doctors (I will if I have to though). Does anyone have any suggestions? Post Date: 01/29/13, Replies: 10
Natural remedies for scar tissue I have had two extensive surgeries one on my face and one on my clavicle, I am looking to see if anyone knows of any natural remedies to break down scar tissue. Please and thank you :) Post Date: 11/20/14, Replies: 10
Prejudice Doctors So, I'm a vegan, have been for 4 years, and I got a blood test recently. The results came back and said I was not anaemic and not even deficient in anything. However, my doctor told me that being a vegan was "Not how humans are supposed to be" that we're "Not designed to be vegan" and has referred me to a dietician to discuss what I eat. Does the fact that my blood test was perfectly normal not show that veganism is a healthy lifestyle choice?! Does anyone else have this problem with healthcare? Should I complain or something? Help!! HELP! I am soo confused! I have been vegetarian for over 7 years now, and I am now starting/trying to be vegan. I have been looking up things vegans can eat, vegan recipes, and hidden non-vegan ingredients. I have found 'vegan' recipes that use non-vegan ingredients! Like peanut butter or sugar. Some say to add soda instead of egg, but apparently soda isn't vegan either. I have found brands that were accidently vegan(on vegan sites) that also test on animals! I have also found brands that were accidently vegan(on vegan sites) that actually were not vegan! And this is all making it very difficult for me, please if you have any advice, I would love to read it. Post Date: 06/18/14, Replies: 10
Food withdrawl? Hi friends, I have been a pescatarian for 2 years, vegetarian for 6 month and vegan for about a week now. I have never noticed my changing diet effecting my body, but when I cut all animal products from my diet I have been getting severe migraines with nausea and stomach cramps. I am not one to get sick very often. Could it be my body just adjusting to the changes? Any advice would be lovely. Post Date: 11/06/15, Replies: 10
