| Raw Food Diet Depending on the maker, a raw matter fast is either a itinerary to perfect eudaimonia or to serious undernourishment. The truth is somewhere in the midriff. Devotees posit that a diet consisting mainly of uncooked, unstrained pass foods leads to a leaner embody, clearer peel, and higher vigour. They also judge it cuts the danger of disease. But what exactly is a raw content fast? Is masses a raw food fasting whole? Can anyone become a raw foodist? Feature on for whatever answers. What Is a Raw Food Diet? The fundamental precept behindhand raw food and raw food diet, also sometimes called rawism, is that lay foods in their most unaffected denote - uncooked and unfinished - are also the most alimentary for the embody. The raw food diet is a manner superior. It is not a metric exit thought. Sticking to a raw food diet isn't promiscuous. Most raw foodists expend a lot of time in the kitchen peeling, chopping, exertion, merging, and dehydrating. That's because the fast is typically prefab up of 75% fruits and vegetables. Staples of the raw nutrient diet include: " seaweed " sprouts " sprouted seeds " whole grains " beans " dried fruits " nuts Fuel, gentlemanlike sugars, and caffeine are taboo. Most raw foodists are raw nutrient vegans, who eat no animallike products, but whatever do eat raw foodstuff and mallow prefabricated from raw or unpasteurized river. How Do Raw Foodists Read Meals? Raw foodists do not fix using a traditional stove or oven. They use food dehydrators that loan compressing to vegetables and cookies. Matter dehydrators also dry out fruits for production leather and opposite raw nutrient recipes. Try surfboarding the Cyberspace for raw food direction ideas. Web sites, including recipezaar.com, welikeitraw.com, and living-foods.com, all get collections of raw food recipes. The dehydrator entirety with temperature, but temperatures cannot be higher than 115 to 118 degrees. Raw foodists anticipate luxuriously alter leaches enzymes and vitamins appraising for prim digestion. The Inhabitant Dietetical Association challenges this declaration. It says the body -- not what goes in it -- produces the enzymes needful for digestion. The ADA also says cooking nutrient below 118 degrees may not end slanderous, food-borne microorganism. Raw vs. Parched Examination literature on the raw nutrient fast is scant. Research tends to focussing vegetarianism and veganism and the health benefits of a plant-based fasting, among them lower cholesterin and wagerer glucose levels. A few studies do happen to stake up the belief that cooking vegetables tends to kill fundamental nutrients. One showed that intake raw, cruciferous vegetables (such as pinch, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cole) may slenderize the risk of sac someone. Researchers noted that cookery cruciferous vegetables robs them of their isothiocyanates, agents that desexualize proteins in mortal cells. They found that modify a few helpings a period of raw crucifers seems to lour the attempt. Other study that reviewed findings of roughly 50 scrutiny studies on the raw versus overdone disputation showed that eating raw vegetables helps shrink the risk of examination, pharyngeal, laryngeal, esophageal, and stomachal cancers. | Possible B12 Vitamin Problem Hey everyone! I'm new here and I've been having a issue that I think might be related to lack of vitamin or a possible overdose. I'm 22 and a vegetarian, but I don't eat cheese or a lot of dairy. I have been taking a multivitamin for vegetarians for awhile now, which has basically everything including the B vitamins in it like B12. I also just started taking a B12 supplement. The type that you put under your tongue to dissolve. Every since I started them (it's been a couple of weeks now), I have been feeling a vibration through my body. I'm not shaking , but it feels like I am inside. It's hard to fall asleep and sit still. I led it back to the start of the B12 supplement so I stopped taking them yesterday, but I'm still experiencing vibration. I'm hoping that it fades. I also deal with anxiety at times too. I have an appointment with my doctor next week, but I was curious if anyone had any information on this that could help. Thanks Post Date: 03/15/13, Replies: 11 | ||
| Vegan coach coaching an Ashkenazi Jew I am in a program that people who are interested in veganism can get help going vegan. All the people interested in veganism get paired with a coach who has to have been vegan at least one year. I am going to be coaching someone who is an Ashkenazi Jew. The coaching is going to go though Passover which is going to limit what food I can teach him about. I am an atheist and don't know much about what foods he is and isn't allowed to eat. I like using mock meat but from what I can tell all the mock meats are in some violation of the Passover food laws. Is there some mock meat I can teach him about. I really don't know much about what he will and will not be able to eat because of the Passover so any all information will be helpful. Post Date: 03/05/13, Replies: 1 | ||
| MY FAMILY IS BECOMING VEGAN HELLO! I am a mother to two beautiful children, a boy six months old and a little girl two years old. I am also a wife to a wonderful man that I love very much. We've recently decided to become Vegan and need help beginning. It is very important that we do this correctly for the health of our children. I don't want to accidently malnourish them. Our daughter is unique in the way that she eats everything. Kale, Chard, Tofu, Edamame and nearly every fruit available. There isn't much she honestly dislikes. I don't see it being too difficult of a transistion for her. As for my husband, maybe a bit more difficult. I know I'll miss fish the most. Along with cheeses. I need a shopping list. I shop one month at a time except for fresh veggies. Can anyone Help? Post Date: 02/17/13, Replies: 8 | ||
| Undenatured vs Denatured Protein Does anyone else think there are too many unhealthy protein shake products on the market? Organic undenatured protein offers a healthy alternative, compared to denatured protein. It is minimally processed to keep more of the essential vitamin and mineral content. Another benefit is that the protein is sourced from grass-fed happy cows, which are hormone and antibiotic free. Unfortunately, a large majority of cows in the US are held in confined areas and not allowed to experience the nature God intended for them. Post Date: 02/06/13, Replies: 0 | ||
| Vegan Friendly Doctors So I've visited my new doctor twice now and he has insisted (both times) that my health problems are due to my vegan diet. I know with great confidence that my diet helps my condition and that eating meat/dairy would make it worse. I decided to search the web for doctors but there doesn't seem to be too much information out there (for Chicago). The last thing I want to do is call several doctors (I will if I have to though). Does anyone have any suggestions? Post Date: 01/29/13, Replies: 10 | ||
| Dr. McDougall's Starch Solution I started Dr. McDougall's Starch Solution plan and I lost 2.5 lbs. on the first day. I ate starches the whole weekend and stuck to the plan and gained 3 lbs! I did eat a couple of pieces of bread and some homemade rice pudding with stevia and a little regular sugar so maybe that's what caused me to gain. So, I'm going to try cutting out bread and as much sugar as I can this week and see how it goes. If anyone else has done this diet and lost weight, I'd be happy to hear any pointers. | Blood Test - not been allowed to have one! Hi Guys, I went to the doctors today to schedule a blood test testing the CBC (Complete Blood Count) Cmp Comprehensive Metabolic Panel) Ferritin (Iron assess) Folic Acid, Lipid Profile (Total Cholesterol LdL, HDL, Triglycerides) MMA (Methylmalonic Acid) Vit B12 Vit D I read on many sites (such as happycow.net) that it's really important to be tested on all of these things. However, the GP would not want to do a blood test on me! She said I would only be allowed to do a standard CBC, and then, if something was wrong, do other tests. I was astonished. I said, that all of these things are really important, and having been a vegetarian for 3 years and a vegan for 1 they should really be testing my B12 also. At the end the GP told me that she would only do a CBC, B12 and Folic Acid, (it truly felt as if I had to barter!) and if something was wrong i would have to go back there and do more tests. This is so obtuse, because while they are trying to save money doing less services as possible, they are spending more time and money, because people always come back to do more tests; also It feels like they are waiting until people get sick to cure them, rather then prevent the sickness! I remarked that my last test I did was over ten years ago, and that I should really have it done properly; but the Doctor was unmovable. I offered to pay extra to have everything done at my expenses but they said that they would not charge me for a blood test. I ended up leaving the place with no appointment because it's such a waste of time. This is frustrating because as a tax payer I am paying for a service, but I'm not getting the service in return! I'm very concerned, since I'm also planning to start a family in the coming years and I want to make sure I can sustain a pregnancy on my current diet (I don't take any supplements) or whether I should add supplements to my diet right away. Just the topping on the cake, the GP offered to take my blood pressure, as they do to make it look like they've done something! (yeah, I figured I would be up to the sky I was so angry). While she was taking the blood test she said: "So, your vegan, does that mean that you don't eat fish?" I was, like... you are a doctor and you don't know what vegan means?! Anyway I patiently explain that I don't consume any animal products and she replied "What? So you just eat pulses?!" Like I was so weird? I wanted to say, you are the weird one, eating flesh of animals and mammary secretions that are supposed to be for calves! Have you had a similar experience? Do you have any suggestions? I'm considering going to a private doctor, but I have no idea how much this is going to cost me! Thank you for your help, any suggestion is appreciated! Post Date: 01/12/13, Replies: 3 | ||

| Next Level Health Tips Here are a few ideas on how to take it to the next level! First, it is vitally important to get clean water from a spring or deep well, to bottle in glass. It's also good to drink a good amount of water to stay hydrated. I also recommend reading and staying on point with nourishing material, from superfood guru, David Wolfe, to Bridgette Mars. Another cool idea is add in superfoods, meaning foods with high levels of real natural nutrition, like Lucuma, you only need a teaspoon to tablespoon. Camu Camu Berry is some of highest Vitamin C known. Goji Berries for a large spectrum of minerals and Vitamin C, you only need 5 or 6 berries a day. Also, get from top level supply. Raw Cacao is also awesome, great for many body nourishment. Kale is excellent for vegans and vegatarians due to it's high level of Iron. I recommend, detoxing in Saunas and/or by sweating. In todays society there are an abundance of toxins from stress and numerous other sources. Therefore, to allow the lymph system to flush by sweating may be a good idea. I have put together some of the best nutrition foods in the world and of the highest quality available, not for business, but for everyone's health. You can check it out at amoraeashop dot com. We ship to your door! I highly recommend our Rainbow Smoothie Mix, totally amazing and my best friends love it. I also recommend outdoors, sunshine, and a good book. | Scared of Meat?!? :( Hey guys. Anyways, I've been a vegetarian since the age of 9 to 14. After half a decade of vegetarianism and malnutrition; I'm starting to feel weaker, more lightheaded, worse in general. I'm trying to eat healthy but the rest of my family eats meat, and neither I or they have time to create something healthy vegetarian wise. I'm thinking about temporarily getting back to eating fish at least 1 - 2 a week for the next half a decade or so, it just because I'm in the process of growing. Problem is, I'm too scared to even look at it, much less eat it. I need it, but I can't find myself getting to eat it. Any tips for comfronting my fear? I know this is a lame thread, but I searched on the Internet for solutions and I couldnt find any... Thank you :) Post Date: 05/07/12, Replies: 3 | ||

| Smarter not to eat fish Despite having significantly lower intakes of EPA and DHA (associated with fish consumption), blood levels of EPA and DHA in vegans and vegetarians were approximately the same as regular fish eaters, according to findings published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The results indicate that when people do not consume adequate levels of EPA and DHA, like vegans and non-fish-eating vegetarians, their bodies respond by increasing the conversion levels of ALA to EPA. “The implications of this study are that, if conversion of plant-based sources of n-3 PUFAs were found to occur in intervention studies, and were sufficient to maintain health, it could have significant consequences for public health recommendations and for preservation of the wild fish supply,” wrote the researchers, led by Ailsa Welch from the University of East Anglia in England. DHA - the true brain food that has been mandated to be in baby formula it is so important to brain health: "...the average DHA level in fish eaters was 271 micromoles per liter, compared with 241.3, 223.5, and 286.4 micromoles per liter for non-fish-eating meat-eaters, vegetarians, or vegans." That's right - vegans had a higher amount of DHA than fish eaters! http://www.nutraingredients-usa.com/Research/Omega-3-ALA-intakes-enough-for-EPA-DPA-levels-for-non-fish-eaters Post Date: 03/16/12, Replies: 0 | ||

| Diet and EXERCISE Details: So being vegan is really a great building block for long term health. But as we always hear, diet is no substitute for exercise. So I'd like to start an thread asking about what you do for exercise, and if you are among those who don't exercise, for people to chime in as to what you can do to start healthily. I do a lot of hiking. I am able to do miles with elevation gain/ inclines relatively well despite a recent lapse of exercise. I also love top play bball and soccer, but I haven't played these in a while since you need to organize others more for those to play. I have friends who have a hard time to go on hikes since they are out of shape. The hikes really hurt on their inclines, whereas I can sing while going through it. Does anyone have any suggestions for those who have a hard time getting in shape? I feel fortunate I have never had bronchial issues, so asthmatics who have overcome their issue to get in shape are more than welcome to chime in. Aiming for well-rounded health... | Vegan Diet Effects on the Body I have recently become a vegan (less than a month), and was wondering what changes to expect from this transition as far as hair, skin, weight, bm, pms, mood etc. I'm a fairly active 24 year old female. I know all experiences will vary and each one depends on a lot of variables, but nonetheless, I would like to hear what others experienced and how they handled it. Thanks. | Stomach always upset Okay, so I switched to a Vegan diet about a month or so ago. My stomach is upset every single day - is this normal? I have cut back on coffee thinking maybe it was the caffeine. Is there a transitional period? I also don't eat a lot of soy but I have an 8 ounce glass of soy milk everyday. Thanks! | Advice re: adolescent's diet My son is 12 and an intelligent boy with autism Asperger's syndrome. He's a lacto-vegetarian by his choice. He's struggled with gastritis all fall, after taking ibuprophen for a broken bone and relapsed a few weeks ago after taking some antibiotics for a day or two (had to quit b/c of vomiting and nausea). His diet is very limited and it is totally counter to what is recommended for chronic gastritis (high fruits/veggies, low fat, low sugar) -- he literally only eats hummus, chips, crackers, peanut butter, soynut butter and some cereal (Cheerios, Life), OJ, milk, apple juice, granola bars. When he got gastritis he stopped being able to eat powerbars w/soy protein. I need some advice about how bad this diet is for a 5'9" 170 lb 12 yr old -- right now he's only eating crackers and cereal b/c he's nauseated all the time. I'm at my wit's end and have come to this forum for help. Help! Post Date: 01/02/12, Replies: 3 | ||
