| Hong Kong Suggestion 1 - have Hong Kong as a sub-category of Asia - it takes some intense lateral thinking to find it by first going through China. Hong Kong can be given its officla current name of Hong Kong SAR - this strategy is good until 2047. Next suggestion - split Hong Kong into 3 areas - 1) Hong Kong Island 2) Kowloon 3) New Territories. This will make navigation of HappyCow much easier. Involve me in this. I believe that there are 70+ veggy restaurants in Hong Kong - many of which will opt for FRIEND / paid listings if they see more business coming from their listing. | Is HappyCow going into overdrive? Mr. Webmaster Eric, I have a note that - on May 16th, 2007 - when I joined HappyCow there were 1,840 Members registered. Today we have just passed 5,520. That is a 200% increase in less than 10 months - or an average increase of more than 11.5% per month (compound growth). Wow! "Happier Cow's" - so many plants being eaten! - as people / businesses work to get over their addiction to "cruel dairy" the cows will become happier still! Let's have a celebratory lunch today in "Long Man Lou" in Kowloon - a big "thank you" from me to whomever submitted it! Love. JohnnySensible Post Date: 08/03/10, Replies: 4 | ||
| MINOR technical suggestion for Login page When logging in, it would be nice to set the focus to the "Username" textbox, so one wouldn't have to click on it first. I often clear my browser cookies so I have to login everytime I visit HappyCow. Post Date: 11/11/08, Replies: 4 | ||

| 'Update Review' Option I was thinking an 'Update Review' option would be a very useful thing to add to previous reviews. As I frequent restaurants my opinion may change about them. If I change my mind about a place I generally delete the prior review then post a new one. Not only is this process cumbersome, I feel that it's less useful. I feel that having the prior review along with the original review could be very useful, as we can see how HC members opinions change about establishments over time. What do you think Webmaster (and everyone else)? Post Date: 02/03/10, Replies: 4 | ||
| Listing Veg-Friendly Restuarants Greetings, This is my first post. I hope I have entered this in the right forum area. This is how I found this site. My wife and I maintain a vegan diet. I saw a mention of the Veg-Out iPhone app in the magazine VegNews. I downloaded the app (costs 2.99). The app gets all of its list from this site and points out the site in the "details" section of every restaurant listing. I recently went on a business trip to Ann Arbor, MI and used the app/this site to find local vegan and vegetarian restaurants. I was happy to find really great restaurant there, Seva. This was great when I was eating alone. When I needed to find a restaurant in mixed company with meat-eating business partners, the site was not of that much help, and happycow.net does not appear to want to list such restaurants that bridge the gap with numerous pointedly vegan offerings alongside meat (usually noted as sustainably farmed, organic, etc.). Can somebody tell me more about happycow.net's stance in this regard? Can somebody also tell me where to go to find listings that might be more forgiving on this account by including truly veg-friendly that also serve meat? Post Date: 07/29/10, Replies: 4 | ||

| Food courts with a single vegetarian stall Once again I recently came across a vegetarian stall in a non-vegetarian food court. The individual stalls share some of their kitchen utensils, but seem to prepare most of their food separately. However contrary to a market hall a food court like this (Pier 21 in Bangkok) will be run as a single enterprise. The employees taking orders for the vegetarian food have no particular affinity to vegetarianism and the supply chain is likely to be the same as for all the other kitchens. It's a single restaurant operation. For a vegetarian there are at least two reasons to favour vegetarian restaurants over regular ones. The first is the wish to eat food that isn't "contaminated" with residues of non-vegetarian food preparation. This might be due to neglect of staff that doesn't have any affinity to vegetarianism, general laxness etc. The second is the wish not to support businesses that generate most of their profits by killing or abusing animals. (I regard the second aspect as much more important as the first, because the second is less about me and my "purity" and more about animals and their interests.) So does a vegetarian food counter in a non-vegetarian food court qualify as vegetarian? The Happycow community seems convinced it does. I couldn't find any examples of vegetarian stalls being downgraded because of their surrounding. But shouldn't we take the context into consideration? The split-up of a restaurant into a vegetarian stall, a stall for fish and a stall for meat is arbitrary. Is this much better than to separate Asian, European and Arabic kitchens from each other (and have vegetarian choices marked as such on each menu)? What is won by the first set-up? To provide an example: The MBK Centre Food Court in Bangkok gets 4 out of 5 stars on Happycow (http://www.happycow.net/reviews/vegetarian-food-mbk-bangkok-341). I haven't been to the place, but if it is run like the food courts I have seen, the vegetarian counter belongs to the same restaurant operation that is famous for its Shark Fin Soup (see the MBK Bangkok review on Tripadvisor). Shark fin is one of the ingredients explicitly despised by Happycow. (Try to create an entry for a non-vegetarian restaurant and read the note!) Shouldn't we take this into consideration? | Airport Food From - www.HealthNewsDigest.com Airport Food - until reading this today I had never thought about adding Airport restaurants! Now I will start to look out for places to add! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Food and Nutrition Author: Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine Last Updated: Dec 11, 2007 - 3:33:18 PM ________________________________________ New Report on Airport Food for Holiday Travelers By Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine Dec 11, 2007 - 3:20:08 PM Dallas, Chicago, and Detroit Top the List of Healthiest Airports, Survey Shows Washington National and Miami Lag Behind; Las Vegas Is Most Improved (HealthNewsDigest.com) - WASHINGTON — Holiday travelers should have no trouble finding a healthful meal in many of the nation's busiest airports, according to an annual report just released by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. PCRM nutritionists found that 82 percent of the restaurants surveyed offer at least one low-fat, cholesterol-free vegetarian entrée, making this the second year in a row with such a high score. The survey—now in its seventh year—examined food served at 15 of the busiest airports in the country. However, some airports are much better than others. If you're laying over in Dallas, Chicago, or Detroit, you'll have no trouble finding a healthful meal. If you're traveling through Washington or Miami, you'll have to look harder. "The biggest health issue for travelers is not air safety. It's the cholesterol-laden burgers, fried chicken, and battered fish sticks eaten during layovers that present a much greater long-term threat," says PCRM dietitian Susan Levin, M.S., R.D. More than 90 percent of the restaurants at Dallas, Detroit, and O'Hare airports offer a healthful option. The figure in Miami is 67 percent, and at Washington National is a dismal 42 percent. PCRM dietitians gave each restaurant a point if its menu included at least one low-fat, high-fiber, cholesterol-free vegetarian entrée. The final percentage score was derived by dividing the airport's number of restaurants serving health-conscious fare by its total number of restaurants. Airport Score Healthy Restaurants/Total Restaurants 1. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport 94% 89/95 2. (tie) Chicago O'Hare International Airport 93% 81/87 2. | Mock Meat Restaurants I have a problem with the 'mock meat' vegetarian restaurants that abound in many large cities and also on Happy Cow. It is truly unnerving to stare at the menu with descriptions and pictures in many cases that reflect meat, fish and the like. It is really disappointing that teh owners of these restaurants who otherwise seem to be enlightened, have to resort to the very items that they do not serve, to describe their menu items. I have never eaten any animal product in my life, and I do not wish to see or know what they would look like on my plate. Today I ate at the TeHe Veg Bistro in Jakarta, and its menu read among other things, fried fish belly, fried frog, and all the other usual culprits like beef, steak, etc. Honestly, it was very disgusting, and today I vowed that I will never again eat in one of these 'mock meat' restaurants even if I have no other vegetarian choice. I would like and hope that other members take a stand on this and also request HappyCow to exclude these restaurants from their listing. Cheers, Pradeep Post Date: 07/06/10, Replies: 3 | ||
| Happy cow member of the week I think it would be cool if we had a member of the week for each week. Or member of the month or year. Maybe decided by number of reviews writen the week before, best written review, best picture uploaded, or simply by popular vote. I like the idea of voting on happy cow; it seems like a way to get people more involved. Proposing candidates and whatnot. Hey for that matter, does HC have an ambassador? OK that one is a stretch. LOL but you see what i'm getting at here. Post Date: 09/04/11, Replies: 3 | ||
| Animal Ingredients 2.0 The listing of animal ingredients here on Happy Cow is so helpful. To make my product purchasing a more conscience one, I copied the list, edited out the definitions, and formated it into a handy wallet feature. Now when i go grocery shopping, I consult my quick-list, and am able to shop worry free about ot knowing about what is really in my food. My suggestion is to feature a second animal ingredient list here on Happy Cow; one that is just the ingredients and is formated for easy printing. So that people like me, who dont always know what the technical terms for some of the animal ingredients are, can always have an easy to read list at hand. *Food for thought* Post Date: 09/09/10, Replies: 3 | ||
| Happy Cow Donation Purpose? Hello Happy Cow, Firstly, what a wonderful website, Happy Cow Mobile Phone Application, community and service provide. For that, Thank You! I have a question if I may in relation to why you offer donation options to your website? My understanding, thus far, is that you offer a variety of store items to include apparel, receive funds through advertisements on your website and, offer a mobile application at a cost in extension to your website (which is wonderful by the way). To this I ask myself why the donation and to where or whom benefits from this? There at some point would be an excess for profit once you collaborate all of the aforementioned into one basket. Am I mistaken in thinking that you would be an in profit organisation? If so and you are positively using the donations in weaker sectors in need of support for people, animals or to better spread "the word" then, could you please guide to me where this information can be located, if at all? Warm regards, fnv PS. If any member/s could shed some light that would be wunderbar. Post Date: 12/25/13, Replies: 3 | ||
| combine both search boxes? on the main happycow.net page, there are two search boxes: one for "restaurant, region, city, state, region or country", one for "everything else". i question the need for two search boxes, especially when the first does not seem to be accurate. eg searching for "happy veggies" (either with or without quotes ) results in "Sorry, this location/business was not found, has been deleted, or you have entered an invalid URL." whereas the other gives me accurate listings, detailing all three happy veggies outlets in hong kong). such skewed results might put the casual user off and i wonder if there's any way to streamline both search boxes. | New location-setting-procedure not works. The new location-setting-procedure for registration of new restaurants does not work properly. After setting the marker on a place on the map, the system automatically moves the marker (to an other street). So for example for the restaurant "Casa Natural Lugervit" in El Vigia, Venezuela. | Site Request: Countries by veg*n density I know that HappyCow has a list of the top-rated veg*n restaurants in the world, but I think it would be interesting to see a list of countries/provinces/etc. ranked by veg*n density. Here's what I know: * HappyCow has a list of veg*n restaurants * It shouldn't be too hard to find the area of a country/province/state/etc. * So, you could create a feature that allows you to see a list of countries/provinces/states, etc. sorted by veg*n restaurants/km^2. I feel like this would not just be cool, but could help people who want to travel somewhere, but are not sure where. They can look at that list, and then see where has the most/least options per km^2. Post Date: 08/05/16, Replies: 3 | ||

| "New" labels for cities Hello, I hope this hasn't already been mentioned, but I didn't see it. I was wondering if it was possible to put a "New" label on the cities where new restaurants have recently been added. I always keep coming back to the same cities to check for new additions and it would just make it a lot easier if it was labeled so I wouldn't have to click on each city if there's nothing new...Hope that makes sense... Thanks for everything you do!! You're awesome!!] ~Zira Post Date: 08/08/07, Replies: 2 | ||
| please use the update facility. hi, i don't know about everyone else, but before a trip i print the the front pages of each place i am visiting from the website. often i struggle to find somewhere, and when i do i update the details on happy cow. can everyone do the same please, as it will make all our lives easier. people often put details on their review, however this will not be updated to the front page and unless you have access to the web, it makes it difficult to find.
