| Hi there :) Almost a year ago was when I first started contemplating whether or not I should go vegetarian, and after watching many YouTube videos I knew that I could no longer live with myself, knowing the truth behind our factory farming and even free-range/organic industries. The reason I went veg was for the animals, the poor creatures who suffer constantly for our greed and selfishness. For school, we were given the task to come up with a persuasive speech for a well-known issue that our world faces today. I thought that this was my golden opportunity to educate my class and teachers on what a factory farm is and how we gain the meat, dairy and eggs that we feed on globally. I deliver this speech in a week and I am feeling pretty confident about the effect it will have on nearly everyone in the class. Its goes for roughly 15 minutes, with short clips and pictures of not even the worse that commences in factory farms. And after learning even more about the dairy and egg industry, I would seriously LOVE to go vegan, however my parents hardly support my decision to become a vegetarian, they even make me eat fish sometimes because my mum refuses to buy me veggie alternatives :( I guess the reason I'm writing this is to reach out to those who may feel the same way and who may be going through the same thing- wanting to go vegan but not able to due to the family situation. I would really love a veggie/vegan friend for support :) thanks, elaine383. Post Date: 02/04/16, Replies: 3 | ||

| Hi, I'm new Hello Everyone! My name is Luke and I am from Brighton in the UK. I have been Vegetarian for about 18 months now. I have been largely Vegan for about 2 months now but I do sometimes eat non-vegan ready meals (usually on weekends which are particularly busy for me). I am just getting into cooking my own veggie/vegan meals at home so you will probably see me in the cooking tips and recipes forum. I became Vegetarian after seeing 'Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead' by Joe Cross (Netflix has really helped me on my Veggie journey) and then moved to my current diet after reading 'Mad Cowboy' and 'No More Bull' from Howard Lyman. Thanks for reading if you got this far :) Post Date: 07/22/16, Replies: 3 | ||
| Hi! Am I allowed here? Hello everyone! I am a huge animal lover and mother to 2 furry babies - Buster (English Mastiff) and Norah (Mixed Breed Cat). I am just making the transition to shopping 100% cruelty-free, I avoid all land-animal byproducts, however, I am a pescetarian and my husband still eats meat. Am I welcome here? I've been kicked off any other sites I've tried and I noticed your TOS weren't 100% on it so I thought I'd give it a try! If so, hi! And if not.. have a wonderful day! | Hong Kong Vegetarians Recently, for health reasons I have been eating more fruits and vegetables. I try to eat less meat. Sometimes it is tricky to find a restaurant in HK where one can eat alone as many of them have dishes that are meant to be shared. If there is anyone out there living on HK island that would like to share a meal or discover new Veg. restaurants, send me a message and we can try it out! Post Date: 03/24/11, Replies: 1 | ||

| Housemate wanted in Parkside, Adelaide Hi there! I have a room available in beautiful Parkside, South Australia. I'd obviously love at least a vegetarian (my diet is vegan) to move in which is why I'm posting here. Other preferences include - non-smoking, believe in animal rights, have a steady full-time job or full-time student, lover of the Beatles and Rolling stones and all fab music (except rap, hip-hop, death metal, r&b - sorry I can't stand it!), enjoy a drink and a laugh. The room is a large double (in a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom maisonette), the backyard is really big, and there's a split system in the living room. It's a short walk to Unley Rd and George St and the city is just on the other side of the parklands :) I work full time from home, and I share my life with the best dog in the world, so there won't be room for any other animals. The rent is $155 per week (initial bond is $945). Please get in touch if you're interested or know someone who would be! Post Date: 01/08/12, Replies: 0 | ||
| i am a pretend vegetarian http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2289212093 I was referred to this unusually titled Group by a bizarre "Viv Stanshall-esque" friend. The "all inclusiveness" appealed to me! If you have moments of dietary insanity please join up & share / discuss them. Facebook Group pages titles can never be changed - so - "i am a pretend vegetarian" - will be there for our children's, children's children. Now - with a little tweaking - it is pointing towards www.HappyCow.net - the best place to find good veggy eating places regardless of whatever else you occasionally / regularly ingest! | I had a cookie that changed my life today. I was at my local health food store today looking for vegan staples (organic veg broth etc) and they had these new organic, vegan cookies. I forget the name right now but i still have one left. They were 2 big cookies, i only ate half of one. I got them in ginger snap. They were totally more amazing than any cookie i have ever had. What a real treat. It even had some crystallized ginger on top. Just spectacular. I will have to find the name and post it later so you all can try it. Post Date: 05/23/13, Replies: 5 | ||
| I Have a New Job! Pending verification of my credentials, I have a new teaching job. I've been looking for a new position ever since I was advised on 2/14/2013 that the Culinary Arts program would be terminated at year's end due to budget cuts. I'll be working at a rural district that's a 90 minute round trip commute from my current home in Arizona. I used to think that my home was rural ... but this job is located in a community that's so rural, it only has a post office, gas station, and sandwich shop that sells nuts from the pecan orchard and wine from the local vineyard. All of the other businesses on Main Street have long since been boarded up ... the local diner, motel, hardware store, and grocery store are all closed. On the edge of town is an old Texaco gas station with rusted pumps that look like they date back to the 50's or 60's. I wonder whether the owner has ever considered selling these pumps as there are collectors out there who would probably love to restore them. For that matter, as a chef, I wonder what sort of tools and equipment might still be found in the old diner. Since this district is VERY SMALL and will only have 19 high school students next year ... that's 19 total in grades 9-12 ... teachers in this district have to wear multiple hats. The superintendent is still looking to hire people but right now, my job next year will be to teach 2 sections of Culinary Arts and up to 4 sections of history. I will also be the career counselor and will be tasked to dispense my wisdom (such as it is) and advice for students regarding their future career plans. In addition to everything else, I will also be the FCLA coach (Future Culinary Leaders of America). Surprisingly enough, I'll be making $2500 more than I did with my last district. Go figure. I'm not going to complain because the extra money will be needed to pay for my gas. Post Date: 07/26/13, Replies: 1 | ||

| Introducing myself from Oshkosh, WI Hello Everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kayla and I live in Oshkosh, WI. I was curious if there were any others from the area on here. I am a Vegan and have been since January of 2013. There are definitely not a lot of Vegans or very many Vegan friendly places around here. Hopefully as time progresses there will be more demand for Vegan options everywhere as more and more people are becoming aware everyday. -Kayla Post Date: 02/09/14, Replies: 1 | ||
| Isn't it interesting . . . . how some people are so quick to judge and condemn. I enjoy playing on Facebook - not so much the games and quizzes but I like being nosy and even commenting on people's stuff. I only post positive things. If I don't like what someone is saying, I just hide them so I don't have to see it. I try to keep it fun because that is what it is for me - a fun way to break up the day. Some girl I went to high school with did one of the games - a food fight thing. She threw hamburger helper and Ben and Jerry's at people of which I was one. A bunch of people had made comments so I joined in and posted "I am a vegetarian so I hope it was made with soy LOL." I even did the LOL for crying out loud, clearly indicating that I was having fun with this! Within minutes I was called "gross" and "not normal" by two people I don't even know. This particularly frustrates me because I do not preach at people. I do not bring up the cruelty to animals or the horrible hormones and antibodies they are ingesting through meat. I do not ridicule them for being sucked in by US propaganda that you have to have meat or dairy to be healthy. And I am certainly not going have such a debate on Facebook! I am glad I have discovered HappyCow.net so I can communicate freely without fear of being treated like a cast out for what is becoming an increasingly popular lifestyle. | It's nice to be vegetarian! Hello, My name is Michelle. I love cooking very much. I'am vegetarian for three years. I have a lot of respect for animals and nature. I have a small biodynamic garden with a pond, a spiral of herbs and flowers. Here are more bees, butterflies and other animals such as frogs and toads and many types of birds. This vegetarian forum is very nice! Post Date: 02/12/16, Replies: 11 | ||

| Just Joined :) Hi everyone! I'm new here. I've been vegan a year now (started as a resolution last year) and feel like I will be vegan for the rest of my life :) I joined because I realized I needed more vegan interactions in my life! There is a group in my city that hosts vegan events, but only infrequently and I have yet to make any close friends. I consider myself pretty lucky in that most of my friends and family have been supportive of me. My mom actually became vegetarian last June! What has been on my mind most recently is the wish that everyone I love could be vegan... I know that will probably never happen, but I can still hope haha. I have friends who say they love animals, but continue to eat meat even after being told where it comes from. I feel especially sad that my boyfriend of almost 3 years cannot see the cruelty he is adding to... I understand that I am the one who changed, but wish there was something I could do to get him to also change. He cares deeply for the environment so I try to appeal to that side of him. But I feel like he and other people do not fully understand the pain and horrors animals must go through to end up on their plates, otherwise surely they would give it up? Cognitive dissonance is a powerful thing... Anyways, that was my little rant. I'm interested in seeing what I can add and take away from this forum, and hope to meet people who share my thoughts and beliefs :) Post Date: 05/08/15, Replies: 3 |
