| Milk and Eggs Contain Cholesterol I still don't understand how someone can be a vegetarian if they drink milk or eat eggs. Milk contains cholesterol and eggs contain cholesterol whether they are unfertilized or not and we all know that cholesterol only comes from animal products. Can anyone explain this? | I Have a New Job! Pending verification of my credentials, I have a new teaching job. I've been looking for a new position ever since I was advised on 2/14/2013 that the Culinary Arts program would be terminated at year's end due to budget cuts. I'll be working at a rural district that's a 90 minute round trip commute from my current home in Arizona. I used to think that my home was rural ... but this job is located in a community that's so rural, it only has a post office, gas station, and sandwich shop that sells nuts from the pecan orchard and wine from the local vineyard. All of the other businesses on Main Street have long since been boarded up ... the local diner, motel, hardware store, and grocery store are all closed. On the edge of town is an old Texaco gas station with rusted pumps that look like they date back to the 50's or 60's. I wonder whether the owner has ever considered selling these pumps as there are collectors out there who would probably love to restore them. For that matter, as a chef, I wonder what sort of tools and equipment might still be found in the old diner. Since this district is VERY SMALL and will only have 19 high school students next year ... that's 19 total in grades 9-12 ... teachers in this district have to wear multiple hats. The superintendent is still looking to hire people but right now, my job next year will be to teach 2 sections of Culinary Arts and up to 4 sections of history. I will also be the career counselor and will be tasked to dispense my wisdom (such as it is) and advice for students regarding their future career plans. In addition to everything else, I will also be the FCLA coach (Future Culinary Leaders of America). Surprisingly enough, I'll be making $2500 more than I did with my last district. Go figure. I'm not going to complain because the extra money will be needed to pay for my gas. Post Date: 07/26/13, Replies: 1 | ||
| Pen-pal? Hi, I've been a quiet member in the HappyCow community for a few years now. I mostly just use the mobile app to locate veg restaurants in new towns I visit! I'm recently interested in finding a pen-pal that I can exchange letters, ideas, photos, etc with! If anyone is interested in exchanging addresses let me know! Post Date: 10/15/13, Replies: 1 | ||

| Introducing myself from Oshkosh, WI Hello Everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kayla and I live in Oshkosh, WI. I was curious if there were any others from the area on here. I am a Vegan and have been since January of 2013. There are definitely not a lot of Vegans or very many Vegan friendly places around here. Hopefully as time progresses there will be more demand for Vegan options everywhere as more and more people are becoming aware everyday. -Kayla Post Date: 02/09/14, Replies: 1 | ||

| Just saying Hi! Hi, I’m Steve, been a working my way up to being a vegan for 35 years, finally stopped eating and using animal products last year. First, mainly for health reasons, then for animal rights and environmentalism. Have become so enthusiastic that I created a website, wedigfood.com, to become throughly involved in the “movement”, see it as part of my involvement with Buddhism. Was shocked by the far reaching and horrible effect the non-vegan food industry has on our planet. Post Date: 09/20/15, Replies: 1 | ||

| Very Veg Curious in College Hey everyone, You can call me by my nickname, Kayales. I'm in college, where I run cross country and track. I also enjoy playing guitar and writing. After three years of Meatless Fridays, which were started by my mom, I'm taking the plunge into full vegetarianism. I decided to make this change after reading a book that I found by chance at Goodwill, "Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows." Shortly afterward, one of my friends at college, who is vegan, convinced me to watch the documentary "Earthlings" with her. The movie as well as the book really spoke to me. Despite taking environmental science three years earlier in high school, where we watched "Food Inc" and "Forks Over Knives" as a class, I didn't seem to get the message that eating animals is (in my opinion) cruel, detrimental to our health, and entirely unnecessary. But suddenly, after experiencing the terrifying truths of "Earthlings" and re-watching "Food Inc," I understood: eating animals is not something I would like to continue to do. So, despite being a college athlete with friends and family concerned about me Getting Enough Protein with a capital P, I'm ready and willing to take the plunge into full vegetarianism. Today I ordered a wonderful book from Amazon called "No Meat Athlete" as well as a veg cookbook for college students, both of which I think will help me on my journey. In the meantime, however, I am open to any comments, suggestions, or simple hellos. Whatever you feel like offering. :) I'm looking forward to meeting you all, Kayales Post Date: 07/21/15, Replies: 1 | ||
| Biking Europe to help animals Hi lovely people! Me and my friend Magdalena have been thinking about combining travels and social activism for a while and today we started an indiegogo campaign called ''Raising awareness and helping animals'' and we really need your help :) We want to bike Central Europe and the Balkans to help rescuing animals from slaughterhouses and raise awareness about what's going on with our climate. To make this happen we need to raise $ 1,500 in 35 days. Every contribution is priceless to us ,even one dollar can make a difference Post Date: 06/14/15, Replies: 1 | ||

| New Member Hi, my name is Emily and I am currently looking to transition into veganism. I have tried in the past and made it a year being strictly vegan. However, I keep going back and forth with it and am having trouble sticking with it. I really want to stick with veganism but I don't know anyone who is vegan so it's difficult. | Vegans needed for a student dissertation!! Hello, We are two undergraduate students studying Psychology at the University of Edinburgh. For our final dissertation topic, we are studying the association between personality and dietary choices, specifically the paleo diet, the Atkin’s diet, and gluten-free or vegan diets. The study is in the form of an online survey. Firstly, you will be asked a few questions about their diet - why you follow it, and you commitment to it. After, you will complete a personality questionnaire. The study typically takes 20 minutes. Participation in the study is voluntary but participants will be entered into a draw with the chance to win one of two £20 amazon gift vouchers. We were wondering if you could please take this survey! Our study is being supervised by Alex Weiss of the University of Edinburgh and the survey has been approved by the Psychology Research Ethics Committee. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected] and we would be glad to help. Otherwise you may wish to email our supervisor at [email protected] Here is the link! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1e8NBwqPC2xzOF_Vm5FvDEQJ4OFordRgAW48BnxIxDWg/viewform?usp=send_form Post Date: 12/10/15, Replies: 1 | ||

| lonely vegan looking for other vegans Hi! I'm Sarah from The Netherlands and I'm looking for vegans to befriend. Doesn't matter where you come from, as long as you're a vegan. I have no vegan friends and would love to be able to talk to other vegans and maybe hang out. (& yes I know I used the word vegan a lot) Little bit about me: My name is Sarah, I'm 18 years old and atm I'm really bored. I like listening to music, horror stuff, gaming and would love to travel a lot. I'm an open-minded person, so don't be scared talking to me, I won't judge. I cringe a bit typing this, don't know why, I usually don't do this stuff. So, yeah, let me know if you're interested! Post Date: 07/23/16, Replies: 1 | ||
