| Are we being discriminated against? Maybe other people go through similar things, ok they probably do. But it's something that makes me really angry. My work is dedicated to making sure there is no discrimination based on age/race/gender/sexual orientation/culture...which is great! but there seems to be no restriction on goading and questioning non-meat eaters. This is also discrimination. If you experience anything like this then please comment. Post Date: 10/01/13, Replies: 2 | ||
| Vegetarian in the military I am planning on joining the Military after college. I have heard it is hard to be a vegetarian in the military depending on where you are stationed. I was wondering if anyone had some advise or wisdom they can pass on. Yes I understand I can talk to a it recruiter about I plan to. I just like to have a little background knowledge. Thank you ? | New from Oregon Just wanted to introduce myself - I have been mostly Vegan for about 5 years now. I'm 51 years old and trying to stay in the best health so I can enjoy my grandchildren. Right now my 20 mo old grandson keeps me pretty busy! I see so many people my age who are taking some kind of medication or another, or who have some kind of chronic illness. Most of them ignore what I do and continue eating themselves sicker - which is sad. But i have guided a couple of friends at work into the Vegan World - and they are happy and losing weight. Anyway - thanks for having me and I look forward to chatting with you all soon. chuck Post Date: 02/09/14, Replies: 2 | ||
| Old vegetarian, new vegan in Dallas Hi! I've been vegetarian with various levels of "strictness" for many years. A couple of days ago I decided to go vegan. I finally watched "Specesism" and decided it was time. Funny thing is that there wasn't anything new to me in the movie, but it finally clicked for me to just do it. I'm lucky to be in an area where there are lots of vegan choices in stores and restaurants. Today I went to the Spiral Diner for brunch. I think the challenges for me are the extra planning involved and the search for "comfort foods." I know I can manage with the planning and after awhile I will be used to which foods are vegan and which aren't. Right now I'm reading the ingredients on everything and I'm experimenting with some stuff. Sometimes they are good and sometimes nasty. I bought some "Simple Truth" veggie crumbles and they tasted like plastic. I'd love to get some ideas for commercial vegan products that you all like. What are or were your favorite "transition" foods? Post Date: 02/20/15, Replies: 2 | ||
| Vegans in Gauteng, South Africa Hi everybody, I would like to meet more vegans and vegetarians in South Africa, especially in Johannesburg, and socialize more and more with vegans (and less and less with meat-eaters). I am a bit alone in my vegan lifestyle as I only have one or two vegetarian friends and all the rest are carnists who like driving me bananas. ;( If you live in Gauteng, especially Johannesburg, please let me know. | New member Hey all. It's nice to be among you. I've been vegan for almost a month now, after being educated through videos on Youtube by many animal protection organisms. I started doing meatless Mondays, but I was beginning to feel bad whenever I ate meat or animal products. I felt disgusted, wrong. The feeling I get today is that I don't want to use animals - unless it's "hugging use". I'm a Brazilian, but I live in Paris. I'd love to go out and meet new members. I also like to cook and it's awesome to learn about vegan cuisine. Post Date: 02/26/16, Replies: 2 | ||
| Greetings and introduction From Australia Hi folks, Just introducing myself. I am a vegan (10 years and counting) I was vegetarian for 1 year and then I witnessed a cow with calving paralysis and she and her calf died. Her name is Scarlett and she changed my life forever. From this experience I decided to make a film about veganism in 2005 and finished the film in 2008. The film is called A Delicate Balance and I produced and directed it. I am documentary filmmaker and make films about AR and social justice issues. I currently live in Australia but I grew up in CA and hope to return there to live again in the future. | Los Angeles area lacking in Co-Ops I've recently returned from an extended (6-month) road trip through the western US and Canada. With this experience under our belts, my husband and I realized that Los Angeles (and OC) is absurdly lacking in Co-Ops. There are like 2 Co-Ops in LA county, and they are NOWHERE near where I live. So, we want to organize a Co-Op....this will be a major undertaking (several years or so), but my husand and I feel that our community is SOOOO in need of it that we are going to spearhead the project. We are currently considering the following locations: Whittier, Pasadena, Fullerton(OC), Long Beach. Just hoping for some input from anyone who might have comments about this. Please feel free to contact me directly if you would be willing to get involved in any way!! Post Date: 09/18/07, Replies: 1 | ||

| thank god!!! hi everyone!!! i am SO happy and relieved to finally have found a forum that i like. i am a very fresh vegan (have been vegetarian 4 years before though) and a little bit desperate, because wherever i seem to mention it, people react with not understanding-better not WANTING to understand why i decided to live vegan. so in my desperation i searched through the net and this is the first community-page i actually like really much. :) i am hoping to find contacts with you all, so i have someone to ask and to remind me that i am doing the right thing and not just have gone mad. and-most important-that you all think like me. does someone have a suggestion for me, how it becomes easier to deal with the not-understanding-part with people around me? so hi and thanks for haveing this cool page! green greetings! | searching for veg*n couples or families We live in Hollywood, South Florida, and would love to meet a local vegetarian/vegan couple or family for outings to parks, museums, and movies. We're both longtime vegetarians (aspiring to veganism), and we have a 10-year-old son. If you type "33020" into the zip code field on Kupple.com, you can see our photos and find out more about us. Our user name is "vegetariancouple." You don't have to be a member of Kupple to view our profile, but probably have to join to contact us through that site. (No, it's not a swinger site, and it's not our intention to advertise for them, but it is free to join.) Even if you aren't local, we'd love to hear from you if, after you check out our Kupple profile, you see that you have more in common with us than vegetarianism alone. Send an introduction to: vegetariancouple(the at symbol)yahoo. We're looking forward to making some great new friends! Post Date: 06/15/09, Replies: 1 | ||

| Hong Kong Vegetarians Recently, for health reasons I have been eating more fruits and vegetables. I try to eat less meat. Sometimes it is tricky to find a restaurant in HK where one can eat alone as many of them have dishes that are meant to be shared. If there is anyone out there living on HK island that would like to share a meal or discover new Veg. restaurants, send me a message and we can try it out! Post Date: 03/24/11, Replies: 1 | ||
| Animal Rights Petition For all those who are interested I started a petition on animal rights at Whitehouse.gov. There is a new feature called We The People that accepts any petition. It will go live and be searchable once the number of signatures hits 150. Please read, sign, and pass on. wh.gov/4SP Extend Animal Cruelty Laws to Factory Farm Animals Every year in the U.S. approximately 10 billion farm animals are subject to extensive suffering and inhumane living conditions in factory farms that no animal kept as a pet would ever experience. This is primarily a result of laws known as “Common Farming Exemptions”. These laws allow animals raised for food to be given virtually no consideration in regards to the pain and suffering they experience. Common conditions in factory farms include debeaking of chickens without anesthesia, removal of piglets’ tails after birth, chick culling (the killing of all male chicks shortly after birth in the egg industry), extremely confining spaces, and of course the eventual slaughter of the animal. It’s time to recognize that animals can suffer and feel pain whether or not they are our pets. Post Date: 10/04/11, Replies: 1 | ||
