| Hi, I'm new Hello Everyone! My name is Luke and I am from Brighton in the UK. I have been Vegetarian for about 18 months now. I have been largely Vegan for about 2 months now but I do sometimes eat non-vegan ready meals (usually on weekends which are particularly busy for me). I am just getting into cooking my own veggie/vegan meals at home so you will probably see me in the cooking tips and recipes forum. I became Vegetarian after seeing 'Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead' by Joe Cross (Netflix has really helped me on my Veggie journey) and then moved to my current diet after reading 'Mad Cowboy' and 'No More Bull' from Howard Lyman. Thanks for reading if you got this far :) Post Date: 07/22/16, Replies: 3 | ||

| Hi there :) Almost a year ago was when I first started contemplating whether or not I should go vegetarian, and after watching many YouTube videos I knew that I could no longer live with myself, knowing the truth behind our factory farming and even free-range/organic industries. The reason I went veg was for the animals, the poor creatures who suffer constantly for our greed and selfishness. For school, we were given the task to come up with a persuasive speech for a well-known issue that our world faces today. I thought that this was my golden opportunity to educate my class and teachers on what a factory farm is and how we gain the meat, dairy and eggs that we feed on globally. I deliver this speech in a week and I am feeling pretty confident about the effect it will have on nearly everyone in the class. Its goes for roughly 15 minutes, with short clips and pictures of not even the worse that commences in factory farms. And after learning even more about the dairy and egg industry, I would seriously LOVE to go vegan, however my parents hardly support my decision to become a vegetarian, they even make me eat fish sometimes because my mum refuses to buy me veggie alternatives :( I guess the reason I'm writing this is to reach out to those who may feel the same way and who may be going through the same thing- wanting to go vegan but not able to due to the family situation. I would really love a veggie/vegan friend for support :) thanks, elaine383. Post Date: 02/04/16, Replies: 3 | ||

| Can we pick your brains please? We're two dudes doing some research into new adventures in business and feel that veggies and vegans aren't catered for particularly well at all, and we want to change that. Firstly, we're looking at getting some delicious super-tasty veggie/vegan hampers out into the big wide world and are wondering if anyone out there would actually like one? We're talking really great flavours and beautiful produce with the added bonus of not inconveniencing any animals. If these things existed: A: Would anyone buy them? B: How much would you be prepared to spend? . . and on a more general note, are there any products along these lines that you really want but can't get in your country? . Thanks for reading, and if you can take the time to respond then thank you very much for that too! Post Date: 06/20/13, Replies: 2 | ||

| new vegan- need someone encouragement Hi! i'm Marty (girl). i'm a 22 year old from washington state. i've been a vegetarian before, and it was easy for me. maybe i've never been that dependent on meat. anyway, i was thinking of what my new years resolutions were going to be, and i wanted to be really healthy, and lose weight. i want to test my body's limits and flush out all the bad things in it. while i'm not preachy about animal rights, i am an animal lover, and the more i think about the way animals are treated, the more i don't want to eat meat or dairy products. i'm looking for someone who will keep me on track. all of my friends are meat-eating, dairy-guzzling people. so its really hard to have someone supporting me. i would prefer it to be through e-mail or facebook or something. i need someone who i can vent about all my cravings to, and someone to share their vegan secrets with me so i can be successful. :) thank you! -Marty Post Date: 11/12/11, Replies: 2 | ||

| Vegan in Argentina Hi everyone! HappyCow has become my go-to resource for finding veg-friendly restaurants wherever I go. I was born and raised in the US (mostly California) but now am living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Transitioning to a mostly plant-based lifestyle has been incredibly difficult in this meat-based country, so I'm happy to find that this site exists and there are members posting about veg-friendly places where I live. I have been using the Android app a lot and one thing I like to do is pull it out whenever I go to a new place in the city to see what Happy Cow restaurants are nearby -- it's always great to discover new places to eat! The one negative thing I experienced on this site is finding that I couldn't rate a restaurant 5 stars if it also served meat. Hello, website owner, clearly you've never tried to be vegetarian in South America! Every single restaurant here serves meat because it's what everyone demands. I'd love to give 5 stars to the restaurants that make an honest effort to accommodate vegetarians even while serving the traditional meat-heavy tastes of the local Argentines. Anyway, end rant, I'm looking forward to meeting other like-minded folks from the HappyCow community. I'm very happy to be here! Post Date: 04/04/13, Replies: 2 | ||

| Hello you wonderful people you! Hello! My name is Jessica and I'm reallly new to Veganism. And when I say new, I mean new new. I really feel like I've been living with my eyes wide shut, blissfully unaware of animal suffering. Well actually no, I was aware, I thought that buying organic chicken and "cage-free" eggs made it okay. I was wrong. So so so wrong. And now I'm absolutely committed to living a lifestyle that is harmless to animals. At first I had decided I would just go vegetarian, because eggs and dairy don't hurt the animals right? No one dies, right? I was wrong. I decided to make the jump to veganism. I know, there are a ton of people that start being a vegetarian/vegan.. and it last for a day, maybe a week, maybe even a month before they give up. I genuinely think I won't go back. The thought of it makes me physically sick. Anywayyyyys, I digress, hi! What I would really like are some meal suggestions for people who like things plain, just a few ingrediants. I'd also like any tips for people who are just starting out. Thanks!!! Post Date: 04/15/13, Replies: 2 | ||
| the only pea in the UAE pod??? So I have recently made the decision to turn my whole life towards the Vegan direction and its probably the best decision Ive ever made. It would probably have felt alot easier was I living in my home country of the UK but I am currently living in the UAE. Im finding it very difficult to make this lifestyle flow with day to day life, especially when outside the house. Also am finding it a little tiring having to explain myself every single time it comes up in conversation that I am a Vegan and why. It would just be nice to be able to talk to someone who has knowledge of eating different recipes and places I can go that have more than just a plain salad on the menu. If you live in the UAE or can just offer me a little bit of support I would be most grateful. The terms, hippy and tree hugger are getting a little old already. Post Date: 06/10/13, Replies: 2 | ||
| Uk Vegan parents? Hi, we are fairly new to veganism but not new to healthy eating and being vegetarians. We have 2 small children who are some of our main reasons to turning vegan but feel surrounded by omnivores and most of all junk eaters!! Would love to know where other vegan parents have made friends and how they have got around the isolation/stigma of being vegan. :) Post Date: 07/04/13, Replies: 2 | ||
| Are we being discriminated against? Maybe other people go through similar things, ok they probably do. But it's something that makes me really angry. My work is dedicated to making sure there is no discrimination based on age/race/gender/sexual orientation/culture...which is great! but there seems to be no restriction on goading and questioning non-meat eaters. This is also discrimination. If you experience anything like this then please comment. Post Date: 10/01/13, Replies: 2 | ||

| New from Oregon Just wanted to introduce myself - I have been mostly Vegan for about 5 years now. I'm 51 years old and trying to stay in the best health so I can enjoy my grandchildren. Right now my 20 mo old grandson keeps me pretty busy! I see so many people my age who are taking some kind of medication or another, or who have some kind of chronic illness. Most of them ignore what I do and continue eating themselves sicker - which is sad. But i have guided a couple of friends at work into the Vegan World - and they are happy and losing weight. Anyway - thanks for having me and I look forward to chatting with you all soon. chuck Post Date: 02/09/14, Replies: 2 | ||
| Old vegetarian, new vegan in Dallas Hi! I've been vegetarian with various levels of "strictness" for many years. A couple of days ago I decided to go vegan. I finally watched "Specesism" and decided it was time. Funny thing is that there wasn't anything new to me in the movie, but it finally clicked for me to just do it. I'm lucky to be in an area where there are lots of vegan choices in stores and restaurants. Today I went to the Spiral Diner for brunch. I think the challenges for me are the extra planning involved and the search for "comfort foods." I know I can manage with the planning and after awhile I will be used to which foods are vegan and which aren't. Right now I'm reading the ingredients on everything and I'm experimenting with some stuff. Sometimes they are good and sometimes nasty. I bought some "Simple Truth" veggie crumbles and they tasted like plastic. I'd love to get some ideas for commercial vegan products that you all like. What are or were your favorite "transition" foods? Post Date: 02/20/15, Replies: 2 |
