Help! I have a vegan friend visiting! Hello everyone. I will be honest, I am not a vegan or strict vegetarian. I am looking for some advice/help answering a question. I have a good friend coming later this spring to visit me and she is vegan. I want to make sure she is comfortable here, especially with cooking/food. My question is cooking for a vegan similar to cooking for someone who is glutten free? I only ask since I have another friend who is glutten free and she cannot use any utensils/cooking pots that have had wheat products in them. So, is this similar for vegans? No animal products on cooking items? Again, i want to make sure she is comfortable here for her stay and I want to surprize her =). I will get seperate cooking items for her if necessary. please let me know if you can help or recommend what to do. Post Date: 02/24/12, Replies: 5
Trying to make the switch! Hii, I'm Katelyn. I'm currently not a vegetarian or vegan but I would like to be! I want to be healthier and feel better. But I'm curious about how to have a healthy, balanced vegan diet. I know that vegetables and fruits can offer calcium and proteins that your body needs but how do you eat correctly so that you get all the nutrients, vitamins, and proteins you need on a daily basis. Recipes, advice on converting, and any sort of discussion on the topic is welcome! Help me! Post Date: 07/16/13, Replies: 5
Problems Dining out with Parents I apologize if this is not in the right forum section, but I wasn't sure where to put it. I just wanted to address a problem I have while choosing a Vegan friendly place to eat. The problem is that my dad isn't really fond of anything 'different' to him, Asian food, Mexican food, Thai, anything that isn't very classic Steak and Potatoes American. I want to be able to eat at a type of restaurant we're all comfortable with. My mom is usually pretty good with anything though. It is a source of stress and sometimes argument when choosing a place to eat. Tonight we're supposed to go out to eat but I'm a bit nervous about what might happen. :/ What do I dooo..... HELP!! NEW TO VEGANISM Hey everyone. I have been a vegetarian on and off for the last few years but finally decided to become a vegan after studying for my diploma in animal care and seeing the abuse animals suffer for human greed. Did anyone else find the transition from vegetarian to vegan difficult? x Post Date: 08/15/14, Replies: 5

So what now? Hi, I found this forum because today I finally made the decision to go veggie. I dont know how long I will last but I figured I have a better chance if I find some like minded people and some advice... So my first question is what the h*** am I gonna eat now??? My time and skills for cooking are limited to say the least, and I live in an area where ready meals and meat substitutes are not an option, so I will have to go cold turkey..or should i say cold lentils... bet that ones been done before! Any motivational advice much appreciated, TC Post Date: 04/04/10, Replies: 4
Vegan from WA~new here New but not new. I've been going to this site for years. But just now decided to join the site/forum. Mainly to try to find other Vegans like me. Preferably near by me. So far it's not looking good. Most people here are either out of the states or from thousands of miles away in another state....so not too sure how much help this place will be. But if you ARE from WA state I'd like to hear from yous :3 would be pretty epic. Post Date: 06/26/13, Replies: 4
New here and wanting to transition! Hey guys, I am very interested in becoming a vegetarian and hopefully a vegan. My biggest concern is that I am already pretty skinny, close to underweight, and I am nervous that this transition will cause me to lose more weight. Any advice on this? And any advice on transitioning as well! Is it Ok to just go completely meat free right away or is it better to take it one step at a time, eliminating foods one by one? Thanks! :) Post Date: 10/01/13, Replies: 4

Fruit and Veg I am not a veggie and was just wondering what fruits and veg do you buy. As a meat eater I buy organic because of its impact on the environment but as vegans how do you avoid crops especially organic that are widly fertilised using bone meal and blood meal both slaughter house by products. I was just wondering how you overcome this hurdle as all fruit and veg that I have seen in greengroses and supermarkets does not seem to lable what fertilizers are used, just wether they are grown organicly or conventionaly. Vegetarian Tuesdays I have been trying to encourage others to go vegetarian for along time now or maybe even become vegan later, but anyone who has tried this among their meat eating friends, know this is almost impossible. So i have come out with a plan. I got my small group of friends to be vegetarian on only tuesdays, reasuring them that it is only 'one day a week', and in addition i would stop telling them what they are eating or what the ingrediant mean on their food. As a result they are finding more and more food that is vegetarian and eating less meat (without realizing it) so, in addition to that plan was my 2nd plan. I would like to ask you to find two 'meat-eaters' and encourage them to go vegetarian every tuesday, then as they become in the habit of that, ask them (individualy) if they can also encourage 2 others to do the same, and so on and so forth, Thus creating a world wide vegetarian day! (that parts far fetched i know, but its a small hope, and even though it will take a long time, i think its worth it) so any help in my plan would be very much appreciated Post Date: 06/23/08, Replies: 3
Food Guide Pyramid. Today in Advanced Home Ec.(Yes that really does exist) my Home Ec. teacher gave me back a project involving healthy meal planning using the food pyramid. My meal plan obviously contained no meat and she took off 30/100 points because of the "lack of protein in my diet". Which is A. not true and B. an unintelligent remark. There was plenty of protein, but no meat. She got all mad, and I was late to my Adavanced Algebra 1 because I argued with her for 20 minutes! Ridiculous right? Post Date: 07/27/16, Replies: 3

Advice? New Veg + Foodie + Love Rest! Hi All, I'm a pesetarian, wannabe vegetarian, who recently decided (after reading Safran's Eating Animal) that I am going to try (yet again) to align my taste buds with my values. I really want to be conscious of the choices before me, especially knowing all the negative impact eating meat has on the environment, the planet, etc...so I feel really guilty even when I have fish, bc I don't feel like I do what I preach :/ Yet, when I look at back at the times I have failed (or the reason why I have evolved into a pesetarian) its because I am a big foodie, and love the dining experience. Its just so difficult to find these type of restaurants, and dish selections seem to be so few and far between. I just wanted to know if anyone else encounters the same issue- of not knowing what restaurants offer the most vegetarian friendly options? What do you do? Do you eat out less bc of it? I read an earlier review that said "when in doubt, bring your own". But when you're not a good cook like me, with a busy schedule and living in an awesome foodie city like San Francisco, that's really hard-- especially if you're single :/ If you're a fellow lover of restaurant dining, perhaps some suggestions here? What do you go through in the search process? Or am i the only one with this frustration of feeling like restaurant/dish selection becomes limited? I really am committed to wanting to be a vegetarian and would love to get any feedback/suggestion so I can finally say, with confidence that I can do it! Thanks!! A present situation in Tokyo,Japan It's too bad and sad. Many people in Japan are arfraid of eating vegetables, even if they are safety. Because of "the rumor" or "misunderstanding". One of my favorite restaurant,"J's kitchen" in Tokyo was colsed the other day. And Not only "Little Heaven" but also many this kind of restaurants fall into crisis. I never hope "misunderstanding for vegitables" confuse the people and distress their managers. If people who love vegetables on this site visit Japan, I want you to taste and enjoy Vegan&Vegetarian retaurants as much as possible. Of course, residents in Japan, too. Needing support newbie here I need some support and don't know where to turn. I am a newbie and want to go to the vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. I am not a dairy person and honestly think its disgusting personally to drink/eat something that came out of an animal. I have never been a meat fan but due to severe anemia thought I had to get iron from animals and honesty it sickens me on how misinformed I had become. If someone would mentor me I would be eternally grateful... Ashley Post Date: 10/22/12, Replies: 3

Hi! Am I allowed here? Hello everyone! I am a huge animal lover and mother to 2 furry babies - Buster (English Mastiff) and Norah (Mixed Breed Cat). I am just making the transition to shopping 100% cruelty-free, I avoid all land-animal byproducts, however, I am a pescetarian and my husband still eats meat. Am I welcome here? I've been kicked off any other sites I've tried and I noticed your TOS weren't 100% on it so I thought I'd give it a try! If so, hi! And if not.. have a wonderful day! Post Date: 03/15/14, Replies: 3
Vegans in Finland? Hi! I am Teresa from Spain and I came to Finland a week ago. I would like to meet some vegans here and I tried in animal shelters but they don't need more volunteers and the rights animal associations don't have upcoming events. I've already meet lots of nice people but I really would like to meet at least some vegans :P Post Date: 03/10/14, Replies: 3
Just Joined :) Hi everyone! I'm new here. I've been vegan a year now (started as a resolution last year) and feel like I will be vegan for the rest of my life :) I joined because I realized I needed more vegan interactions in my life! There is a group in my city that hosts vegan events, but only infrequently and I have yet to make any close friends. I consider myself pretty lucky in that most of my friends and family have been supportive of me. My mom actually became vegetarian last June! What has been on my mind most recently is the wish that everyone I love could be vegan... I know that will probably never happen, but I can still hope haha. I have friends who say they love animals, but continue to eat meat even after being told where it comes from. I feel especially sad that my boyfriend of almost 3 years cannot see the cruelty he is adding to... I understand that I am the one who changed, but wish there was something I could do to get him to also change. He cares deeply for the environment so I try to appeal to that side of him. But I feel like he and other people do not fully understand the pain and horrors animals must go through to end up on their plates, otherwise surely they would give it up? Cognitive dissonance is a powerful thing... Anyways, that was my little rant. I'm interested in seeing what I can add and take away from this forum, and hope to meet people who share my thoughts and beliefs :) Post Date: 05/08/15, Replies: 3
