who else agrees? You can't be a vegetarian if you eat any game, fish, poultry whether its once a week or once a month. This fad diet that has evolved in the past couple of months have targeted the idea that you are considered a vegetarian/vegan even if you the smallest amount of meat and/or (cheese, milk, eggs for the vegan). I don't understand how its justifiable to eat meat once in a while and think that eating this hamburger every so often is just a craving and it's not big deal. You either are or are not. Restaurants: To call or not to call? I've just read an article about eatting out as a vegan and it recommended calling ahead to warn the restaurant (non veggie places). I can't imagine doing that so I was wondering how many people do? Post Date: 11/23/15, Replies: 11

Needing some support I just registered for this site because I recently made the decision to become a vegetarian. I am completely appalled by the way that animals are treated that become food. I know this is going to be hard. There are a lot of family gatherings where meat is the main dish and most of the time the only dish. I know i'm going to get slack, but I don't care. I can't contribute to the cruelty anymore. I'm 27 and that means 27 years of animals being tortured to feed me. I'm sick, I can't stand it. I love animals, I have a small animal refuge in my house. I have 2 dogs, 11 cats, 8 guinea pigs, 4 mice, 1 hamster and 13 rats, all of which are rescues that I love and would do anything for. How can I continue to eat meat when I feel so strongly about animal rights. I really need people to talk to that share my beliefs. No one in my family does including my husband. I also have an 18 month old daughter who I would like to be a vegetarian with me. I know this will bring up a lot of problems from family members. I really need some support, words of wisdom or anything that anyone has to offer to me. Thanks so much, Jenny Post Date: 07/24/11, Replies: 6

Need advice on nutrition for a runner Hi Guys, I'm a brand new vegetarian (4th day today). I've done a lot of research on food balance and nutrition when switching and finally decided to make the switch this week. I am very focused on living healthy and have recently started running. Tomorrow I will do my first outdoors 5km run. Very excited! My question is this: how do I eat around my training to make sure I have the right amount of protein and carbs for the session. 5km is only 30minutes to me, but in a normal training schedule I do 60minutes of cardio and muscle training and suspect I need to eat "smarter". If anyone can suggest a book or website or have personal knowledge to share, I would much appreciate it :-) Post Date: 01/03/14, Replies: 6
Vegan crisis!!! Never done this before so I guess I'll begin with hello! Having a crisis here. I've been travelling in Asia now for 2 months and although I'm loving every mintue of it, it's really making me think about the choices Im making in my life. You see before I left England I was vegan for about 3 months. And I really loved it, I felt amazing, not just physically but mentally I felt I was more in tune with my body and the world. I felt in control of what I was putting into my body which was fantastic. I fully expected every single argument against Vegananisim to hit me left, right and centre as soon as it was "revealed" that I was vegan. Even down to the pizza guy dictating to me accross the counter why I should be eating his over processed, disgustingly cheesy pizza and trying to force a counter argument out of me (I told myself I would never be a "preachy vegan" and only explain why I was a vegan if people asked and were curious into the matter; a rule I still stick by to this day.) Anyway these months of being Vegan and various "you go girl!" And "It's just a phase" it was creeping up to the time of departing to go travelling. To the build up of leaving I some how got brainwashed by people that I would miss out on the delecacies when travelling if I remained Vegan. I ignored it as first but then I started researching into why you shouldnt be vegan (I know, stupid!.) Thus leaving me in this position now. 2 months into my travels and currently not vegan (please dont hate me) feeling very indecisive about what to do. At home I was always a spiritual person but since being away I have really come into my own about it and have gained tonnes of confidence in the way of what I believe and how I wish to live my life. I realised after eating a non-vegan diet whilst away I began to feel very bloated and lethargic and just not as light and energetic as before. I feel like I need to go back to veganism as I was so passionate and vibrant before and I want to continue feeling that way. Basically I would love any advice and support about feeling unsure about Veganism, being vegan whilst travelling (as I am quickly learning that the language barrier can often cause problems in this area) and dealing with opinions from others about being a vegan (I never really got used to 'arguing' with people about why I was vegan so it made me quite self concious about telling people as I was afraid of the en slaught of judging.) Also just to skin the subject, I took multi vitimains before but I'm worried that if I become vegan again when travelling I wont be able to get any and this will damage my health. Thank you for reading me ridicuously long post, any advice is apreciated. Post Date: 08/20/15, Replies: 6
I had a cookie that changed my life today. I was at my local health food store today looking for vegan staples (organic veg broth etc) and they had these new organic, vegan cookies. I forget the name right now but i still have one left. They were 2 big cookies, i only ate half of one. I got them in ginger snap. They were totally more amazing than any cookie i have ever had. What a real treat. It even had some crystallized ginger on top. Just spectacular. I will have to find the name and post it later so you all can try it. Post Date: 05/23/13, Replies: 5
Isn't it interesting . . . . how some people are so quick to judge and condemn. I enjoy playing on Facebook - not so much the games and quizzes but I like being nosy and even commenting on people's stuff. I only post positive things. If I don't like what someone is saying, I just hide them so I don't have to see it. I try to keep it fun because that is what it is for me - a fun way to break up the day. Some girl I went to high school with did one of the games - a food fight thing. She threw hamburger helper and Ben and Jerry's at people of which I was one. A bunch of people had made comments so I joined in and posted "I am a vegetarian so I hope it was made with soy LOL." I even did the LOL for crying out loud, clearly indicating that I was having fun with this! Within minutes I was called "gross" and "not normal" by two people I don't even know. This particularly frustrates me because I do not preach at people. I do not bring up the cruelty to animals or the horrible hormones and antibodies they are ingesting through meat. I do not ridicule them for being sucked in by US propaganda that you have to have meat or dairy to be healthy. And I am certainly not going have such a debate on Facebook! I am glad I have discovered HappyCow.net so I can communicate freely without fear of being treated like a cast out for what is becoming an increasingly popular lifestyle.
