Happy New Year-
Since it's a new year, thought to continue the conversation in a new thread. Here's the original:
Who wants to be the first?!
Share your story, and introduce yourself to the community here. :o)

I'm a birth vegan, and have been raised a practicing and active vegan :) it's always been such a massive part of my life and I'm proud of it! I'm from Liverpool, England, so a pretty good place to be a vegan :)
It is really great that we first posters on this thread are all Vegan. Sadly I was not raised Vegan myself but I joined the party as soon as I got an invite! ;-)
Now I have been Vegan for about 21 years, since my early teens. I have 3 great kids who've all been Vegan since the start as their mother and I were both Vegan for several years before the kids were born.
I call Portland, Oregon (usa) home and love to meet other Vegans - so come visit soon! :-)
Brok: What a fun nickname you have! It's been great watching Veganism so rapidly become a much larger part of the culture in Israel over the last decade. I've heard that the falafel on Shenkin Street is the best around - do you agree?
Trinity: Thanks for helping welcome the new folks! I've been hearing wonderful things about Glastonbury for years - perhaps I'll be able to visit someday!
Teamair: It's always nice to meet folks who've been Vegan since birth. My kids are and the oldest is pretty close to your age now. :-)

I am a 40 year old new vegetarian (along with my hubby - HOORAY!!), blogging about my experience. I find it is really helping me to stay committed and grow in my journey. Hope you will join me at:
I hope to chat with you soon and often!
I'm a life-long vegetarian, and I have been becoming more raw vegan over the past few years. I live on a small island, and the veggie selection in the local stores is not very good. I'm starting to garden in raised beds so I can take advantage of the year-long growing season! I am here to connect with a like-minded community & to share recipes and more.

Hi Cascadian! That's so cool that you know about Israel. Actually, I'm not such a felafel lover. If you need to know about felafel I will ask my sons. To me, Sheinkin is great for amazing fresh juices, and the Orna V'Ella cafe which is vegan friendly. Veganism has had a huge surge in Israel, especially Tel Aviv in the last couple of years.
I hope to get to Portland someday! :)
It's always nice to see Veganism growing and even more impressive when it's happening so strongly, in a comparatively small country!
I stopped eating meat in 1986, fish in 1993, dairies and eggs have been very occasional since I gave up meat, before completely avoiding them from 2010.
I'm life member of the IVU as well as regional delegate of the French Vegetarian Association. I regularly give talks on nutrition for the general public and occasionally also vegan cooking classes.
Perhaps you would be so kind as to add French VegFest's & other végétalien events to the events calendar here? It would be much appreciated!
I'm Clara and I've been an on and off vegetarian for almost 7 years now. Very ambiguos on the topic, I do agree with all the moral arguments, but allow myself the occasional slip. Because a like to say better 90% vegetarian than no vegetarian at all. Maybe hanging around here will give me a push for the lacking 10 percent... ;)
I'm Rio from North Wales, UK but currently living in Liverpool, UK for university :)
I've been a vegan for 3 and a half years and a vegetarian for eleven! Best two decisions of my life and I'm so glad that my mum allowed me to veggie at a young age; most parents would think it was unhealthy and say no.
I joined Happycow partly to mix with likeminded people. I'm a lonely vegan with no vegan friends haha it's starting to take it's toll on me!
So feel free to say hello if you like :)
Come visit with us in chat - lots of Vegans from around the world, including many from the UK!
I saw your other post: Best wishes on finding a vegan housemate. Sadly there is very little chance of my being up able to live up there for any length of time with immigration policies being as they are...
That said, Commercial Drive is my main hang-out whenever I make it up to Vancouver so maybe I'll see you around up there sometime!
Are you from BC originally?
I just visited this website for the first time and I already found some useful tips and information.
I am Cosimo, 30 y.o. from Italy, vegan since March.
What part of Italia are you from? What inspired you to become Vegan?
Your region is on actually my short list of places to visit. I made it to Minneapolis last year but that was pretty much it for MN...
As the Iron Range & north-eastern MN doesn't have a lot of folks to start with, it looks like you may just have to work harder on recruiting folks to become veg*n!
Have you been in touch with any MN based veg*n groups? Even if they aren't active in your area, they are likely your best resources for finding folks who are. The Twin Cities VegFest folks http://2014.tcvegfest.com/ or this meet-up group http://www.meetup.com/TwinCitiesVegetarian/ seem like good people to check in with, if you haven't already.
While they aren't in your state, the Northern Vegans group of U.P. Michigan *can* relate to being veg*n in small rural towns of the upper midwest! http://www.northernvegans.com
Also, come visit us in the HappyCow chat room to you can connect with veg folks worldwide! :-)
I hear great things about Melbourne - it sounds like it just might be the most Vegan-friendly city in all of the Southern Hemisphere! :-)
Start by setting small, realistic goals: like being Vegan for at least 15 years! :-)
Vegan since 1985.
Reading, writing and speaking about this and related issues since the early '70s.
Author of books including, "The Weaning of America" and "The First ISM: Seeking the Origins of Racism, Sexism & Terrorism".
You're making a great switch by becoming Vegan & happily, the UK is an excellent place for meeting other Vegans as there are tons of us there!
Have you checked out these folks?
Also, The Vegan Society has an extensive list of local contacts. Pick one or a few of the people closest to you to contact & they should be able to help you connect with other local Vegans, resources, events etc!
Also, if there is some rare or hard to find item or brand that you'd like, have you considered ordering online? Here's one of the many companies that offers a wide selection of Vegan products for sale: http://www.veganstore.co.uk/
You're off to a great start. There is a world full of us Vegans & Vegetarians - you just added one more. :-)
I am starting a blog once I move called A Year of Vegan. I was planing on posting at least once or twice a week, if not daily, with health updates, food I made, etc. But like I mentioned, the vegan diet will likely turn into a life-long thing for me
Sorry for the long rant.

it's a pleasure to meet all of you.
I'm also a grad student and am quite possibly the only vegan, straight edge kid in this town.

I can relate to the pork thing!
When I was a child we ate lots of Campbell's Pork & Beans. I loved the beans, but eating those chunks of pork fat always awoke my gag reflex. Sadly, my father insisted that I eat the pork. It made mealtime miserable for me.
Took me 33 years to step away from meat altogether and another ten to see the light on dairy products, in 1985!
I am pigs lover but I know all animals deserve to live, not only the ones I love so I don't eat them. I'm sentiocentrist.

I know Great Britain was an empire like the US is now, but you Brits also abolished slavery long before the US and the animal rights movement likely began there with Henry Salt's book, "Animals Rights" over a century ago.
Exept for being a vegan full time now :P, I like spending my time travelling, reading books and watching youtube oddly enough. I actually have my own channel where I used to share my recipes, but now that I'm vegan I'm kinda turning it into a vegan cooking channel, here's the address if you're bored one day youtube/fiorellascooking
Can't wait to join in the discussions and learn more about you guys :)
