- Authentic Asian food
Located in Chinatown I happened upon Amaysia one night after work and was surprised by the amount of tofu dishes available on the outside menu, so we decided to try it out and luckily we got a table, as it was very busy inside. When you walk in the decor is modern but not in a pretentious way and on offer they have a dedicated vegetarian menu with lots of dishes and mains available. However, none of these are labelled vegan so please ensure you state you are vegan before ordering, as a lot of the options contain egg. We did this and it was fine, although the staff did have to check with the chef. For starters we decided to order the salt and pepper tofu and the hot and sour soup to share. The salt and pepper tofu was delicious with lots of chillis on top, whilst the soup was excellent too and full of flavour. For mains we ordered the kung po deep fried tofu and deep fried tofu in satay sauce (£7.50 each) with rice to share. The satay and the kung po were very flavoursome with the tofu perfectly cooked. This was washed down with a refreshing iced grass jelly soya milk, which I would highly recommend if you have never tried grass jelly before. We had this all the time in Singapore. By far the best restaurant in Chinatown I have visited.
