  • Mediocre, expensive food in a stylish cafe

A sweet little cafe in upmarket Mayfair owned by Ella of Deliciously Ella fame. They're currently in the process of renaming their chain of 3 restaurants called "The Mae Deli" to "Deliciously Ella". The food is good - all totally vegan, and healthy, but nothing to write home about. It's quite a limited choice and the menu is quite tame - nothing especially new or different - bean chilli and rice, humous and salad etc - not done in a particularly exciting way. It's good home-cooked food, but the high prices don't reflect the basic foods presented. Just to give you an idea - it was £3 for a small side of quinoa with a few peas and radishes (about 3-4 dessert spoons worth of food). The cakes are a little better - again, very traditional flavours - a lemon sponge, a brownie and a vanilla/strawberry sponge. Great textures but I'm afraid to say, none blew me away, and again the prices are very high for the product. Overall, a safe choice but it's very standard fare. There's nothing remotely exciting about this menu - so this, combined with the high prices will mean that although there's nothing stopping me from going back next time I'm in the area, I'm very unlikely to go out of my way or recommend it to others.
