- Little known spot on BU campus
I've been volunteering at the Food Co-op for almost six years (four as a student and two as an alum!) It's a great spot on campus, especially if you're trying to escape the behemoth food supplier Sodexo. Hot lunch is served weekdays at noon, and it's always vegetarian and mostly vegan and gluten free (labeled on the menu board). Generally lunch will consist of a couple of main dishes made from beans, tofu, tempeh, root veggies, etc, + a salad + bread + dessert. Food is cooked by passionate students! The Co-op also offers a refrigerated and frozen selection of dairy cheese, vegan cheese, burritos, vegan/dairy mac and cheese, sushi, vegan pot pie, vegan butter, juices, kombucha, soy/almond milk, etc. (Inventory changes all the time, but you can expect a selection of wholesome vegetarian and vegan food.) They also have a bulk section with beans, rice, flour, dried fruits, nuts, lentils, and sweets. Discounts are available for volunteers! The Co-op has a really cool atmosphere. They've got a lending library, couches, murals, musical instruments laying around, and there's almost always cool and weird music playing. They pride themselves on being an alternative social space. Especially worth checking out if you're a BU student! But they are open to the public as well! Cash or BUC$ only. (No meal plans accepted because they are not affiliated with Sodexo!)
