  • Not Much to Eat in Hakone

Hakone is beautiful, but vegetarian food is basically non-existent around here. Cafe Timuny has a couple vegetarian sandwich/toast dishes, but that's about it. The salad looked questionable, and the soup was most likely not vegetarian. Definitely nothing vegan. I had asparagus and cheese toast without sausage. It was good but not much for lunch. The space is nice and you can get coffee and stuff, but the food offerings are on par with the bakery/cafe located in the train station, which is across the street. The only advantage here is the ability to sit down, relax, and use the free Wi-Fi. Staff spoke enough English to understand I didn't want meat but not enough to understand that vegetarian meant no fish either. Your mileage may vary.
