  • Yummy vegan options!

My partner and I were visiting Hakone for two days and due to the lack of vegan options took the half hour train ride to Tokaidaigaku-Mae Station to visit Ginger and Pickles. It was well worth the trip! The cafe was only two minutes walk from the station adjacent to the train tracks. The menu is limited with only two vegan options, a burger only ¥880 and a curry ¥780 which both come with pickles, salad with a nice dressing and the burger with roasted potatoes. The restaurant also specialises in a ginger apple tea and various vegan biscuits and sweets. We got there quite late in the day so couldn't try everything and got two cookies (chocolate and oat) which were nice. The decor was very trendy with wooden tables and a minimalistic style. The woman running the cafe was very sweet and although she didn't speak much English she knew what vegan was so no worries there. We also bought some organic vegan bread which is super had to find in Japan and it's delicious!
