- Won't you take me to - Shanti Town!!
There's nothing shanty about Shanti but it is set in an old Victorian era school building. It's just off the main A174 / Markse Road road into Saltburn, not clearly signed from the outside but quite obvious once you know where it is. Parking is at the rear. Once inside any feeling of doubt is quashed by a sense of fulfilment as you enter the world of Shanti. It's tranquil, welcoming and intriguing. The decor has an Asian/North African feel to it and I immediately felt confident of what to expect. Vegan choice is excellent with the exception of dairy milk, halloumi cheese and some ice cream flavours. We had a hearty lentil dhaal on rice and a humous salad served on a home made chapatti style flatbread. Both were delicious. We also went for the house special pour-over filter coffee which was quite special and took some vegan cakes to go. Mains are priced very reasonably at £4.50-£7.50 depending on size. There is an excellent drinks menu too as well as home made vegan ice creams. I would love to come here for a night time meal sometime. That's maybe a potential possibility perhaps. You never know.
