i've walked past this stall many times, but never paid much attention to it. a few days ago i stepped closer and noticed among their posters a drink called 五青汁 (“five greens juice”, hkd16), which claimed to help with detoxing. it comprised green apple, green pepper, bitter gourd, cucumber and celery, which the lady preparing it assured me that wouldn't taste raw. i was dubious, but at this point was prepared to brave anything to improve my skin. to my surprise, the drink was delicious - sweet, tangy, creamy even, yet unmistakably green. it came without ice, which is a plus point. after finishing the drink i went up to compliment the lady and a friendly chat ensued. she mentioned that, despite having the same five ingredients, this particular juice will taste different depending on which stall you buy it from or even who prepares it, and that they'd experimented a lot before coming up with the right proportion. she also said a lot of students from neighbouring schools regularly have this drink in an attempt to get rid of pimples, and that for more mature folk it helps with controlling the "three highs" (cholesterol, blood pressure and sugar, i think). she also suggested some other juices that are good for brightening the skin: apple/carrot, and chinese pear. i'm not taking all this as gospel truth, of course, but given how enjoyable it was, i'll definitely be back for more, whether or not it actually proves to have health benefits. (fu wing is just about four stores away from sooo veggie electric road.)
