- Quirky 80's Throw Back
I have been to Video Video a few weeks ago and I am still not able to fully grasp my dining experience there. As mentioned before, this very small shop is filled with iconic furniture, decoration and games consoles from the 80's and 90's. Finding a place to sit can be difficult, especially during the Saturday afteroon that I decided to eat there. On the day that I visited Video Video the Wi-Fi didn't work and I had to pay by mobilepay because their card terminal was out of order. I don't know if that is occuring regularly or if it was just me that was unlucky. I ordered a burger called "Super Mario Brothers" with spinach pesto, mayonnaise, cheese, spinach leaves, cucumber, marinated red onions an dried tometoes. As others mentioned before, you are forced to eat Video Video burgers with cutlery sometimes, because they are assembled in a more aesthetical than practical manner. Personally, I would never use anything else besides my hands to eat a burger, but I gave a try, as taste is what I pay the most attention to. The burger patty has a very nice consistency, I think it's soy and bean based and it was indeed delicious. The buns that they use have a decent quality as well, not those regular white fast food sesame buns that are more sugar than grain. I have the feeling that the toppings were spiced on point and prepared with a lot of thought and creativity. However, I was overwhelmed by the amount of toppings that they use at Video Video. Using spinach pesto, mayonnaise and cheese plus mainly oil-marinated veggies was simply too much of everything (especially fatty condiments) for my taste. Maybe that it is how it used to be in the 80's? Or I didn't understand the dish... If you like your burgers overloaded, Video Video is probably the place to go. I chose hot chocolate with whipped cream as a dessert and I was not disappionted. The whipped cream didn't have this artificial taste that some vegan creams have and they used a good amount of cocoa powder for a rich chocolaty taste. Video Video is definitely a quirky place and so is the food served there; or at least their burgers, as I have not tried one of their salads or sandwiches. I would eat there again to get some clarity about what to think about this place.
