  • Lehka Hlava and Maitrea

I'm surprised to consistently see Lehka Hlava and Maitrea at the top of "the best vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Prague" lists, because I've been underwhelmed by both. As in Maitrea, I thought the menu was a little unexciting, especially for vegans. It's almost like they choose the most famous dish from every world cuisine and make it vegetarian or vegan - which is a nice idea, but means they don't specialise in anything, so it's all food you've had before, and probably had it better. That said, the tofoie gras was a fun, unusual starter, and one I definitely hadn't seen on any other menus before. Service was good, but I asked about vegan wine and was told that they didn't know which ones were suitable, so I stuck with a soft drink. I can't believe I'm the first person to ask, so it's surprising that they don't know. The decor is quite unusual, but I think it's strange to have plastic mock-wood tables with lights in them - it seems to go against the environmentally-friendly theme.
