- Delightful centrally located vegan cafe
The reviews I've read on this site for veggie cafes & restaurants have usually been pretty accurate, and they've helped me so much to maintain a healthy and varied diet when I'm touring in different cities. Because I travel a lot for work, I rely a lot on the threads posted on sites like this by fellow vegans, so as I've got the evening free now I thought that I would contribute my own review for the benefit of other vegans living in London or travelling through. First of all I was so lucky to find this amazing and unique little cafe. After getting carried away on my day off and spending hours in the British museum just down the road, I was totally starving and wandering around for ages trying to find some decent and reasonably priced food. You'd think that wouldn't be too difficult in a city the size of London, but I wasn't gonna pay £7 for a slice of soggy pizza or a dodgy looking falafel from one of the dives around Leicester Square or Piccadilly Circus. Thankfully, as I was just about to pick up a sandwich and head back to my hostel I came across some 10% off flyers for the vegan Hippo. The cafe was quite busy inside (which is always a good sign) but fortunately the crowd dispersed shortly after I arrived. I was really happy with the pumpkin burger and fresh carrot juice that I had. I was in this place for about an hour and a half and I could've stayed longer because I kept being charmed by the animal figures dotted everywhere. The interior is reminiscent of a farmyard, which works really well. Other aspects inside were thoroughly delightful too, with beautiful wooden features and bright colours that matched the personalities of the staff (they were all wearing orange). If you're a veggie living in London and haven't visited this cafe yet then I suggest you give it a try. Hopefully a few more good reviews might help them to compete with some of the other less cosy places nearby Joseph
