• small selection but still great variety

Quiet little spot just outside of Hoi An's old quarter on one of the main roads out of town. We are here on our last night in Hoi An, watching the rats scurry past. We weren't bothered by this. They're not running into the kitchen or across the counters! In fact, you can see right into where the food is prepared and it looks clean and tidy. We both started with juices. Unlike most places in South East Asia, their juices aren't sweetened with sugar, which is great. But, like most other places, they do seem to be watered down. My parter ordered french fries and the sliced tofu roll. The fries were hand cut and perfectly crisp. The roll was a great veg*n approximation of banh mi that ominis enjoy at street food stalls. The tofu was more like a fake meat loaf type thing. I ordered the spicy vegetables with rice cracker. It was just what I was after - a perfectly balanced dish. Crunchy, delicate slivers of julienned carrot, green mango (I think) and mild onion, loads of fresh herbs, a robust yet refreshing citrus and chilli dressing, and strips of fake beef, served with a big crunchy rice cracker on the side. It was nicely spicy but not like some salads I've had in Thailand that made me see into the future! No doubt we'd have eaten here more often if we'd been staying longer or discovered it sooner. I regret that we were leaving the next day so weren't able to try any of the local specialities, like cao lao, that you have to order a day in advance.
