- Buffet-style food, great vegan shakes
This cafe in St John's had a range of dishes in a hot buffet and a couple of salads - some hard to recognise - that all seemed to be vegan. It's mainly a place for local people used to the system and food so the staff came across a little sullen and reluctant to offer much explanation of what each thing was. You can get a selection of food in a take away container (though they have some chairs and tables outside so you can eat there) and get filled up for about 20 EC (£5). The dishes were basically local stuff, curries and veg, plantain salad etc. Most of it seemed a bit salty to our tastes and a little bland, but filling. They also do some fantastic vegan shakes. You choose from a range of ingredients; we tried peanut butter & banana and pineapple & coconut. Their signs say they use honey in these to sweeten them but they were happy to leave it out when asked. On the whole we felt that Mama Lolly's offered much better, fresher-tasting and less salty food but this cafe is worth trying.
