- Go for experience, not for food
This old (authentic) American-style diner has seen better days, that's for sure, nonetheless there is a peculiar charm to it. First of all it is located in the middle of a troubled neighbourhood, the nearby streets are full of drug addicts and homeless people, some of whom also pay a visit to the Ovaltine Cafe. Inside it's not so much dirty but pretty old and somewhat battered. They do offer fair service though and you'll get a free coffee refill, if you want. The food isn't so great for vegans though. They offer a tofu scramble, but you have to tell the staff to make it without eggs. That's no big deal, but you have to know it, because eggs aren't mentioned on the menu as a ingredient. Furthermore you may wanna mention that you don't want to have butter on your toast. Ovaltine Cafe is no beauty by any means, particularly for vegans it's almost pointless to go there for food, nonetheless it has this fascinating you may be interested to experience.
