  • Local Thai food, veggie-style

Easy to find if you're staying in one of the many hotelsnearby, as it's prominently on the corner of Thanon (road) Sangchan & Thanon Sheutit. There are veg dishes displayed outside - you point at the dishes & it's served on the same plate with white rice. It's not an "all you can eat" style buffet. It's what we in Singapore call "economy mixed rice & veg" or in Malaysia known as "nasi campur" (mixed rice). Tasty Thai street dishes, all meatless of course. Spice level is regular Thai, which means that many western or untrained tastebuds may find it "hot". Note that it's not toned down like in Bangkok. For lunch I had rice with yellow curry & 2 dishes for 1 person, see photo. Cost 40 baht, which is SGD or AUD 1.60. Inside air-conditioned seating, there is a huge display poster on the wall, mostly stir-fry or cooked to order dishes. Written in Thai, anglicised Thai & some Chinese characters, all numbered so you can point. Looked like shareable type dishes for 2 or more persons, I was alone so didn't order them.
