- Best Vegan Toasties In London - FACT
The Trew Era cafe really does have a big heart. Great atmosphere and excellent coffee, not to mention the small garden area at the back, which is a sanctuary from the hustle & bustle of East London. I've been coming here since it's opening in March 2015. It is a non-profit cafe established by U.K. comedian and activist Russell Brand. Russell funded the cafe from profits from his 2014 best selling book, 'Revolution'. It's great for vegans as they offer a lot more than just soya milk. They have a vast selection of plant based milks to choose from, and a range of breakfast options. Porridge, Granola toast etc..I normally go for lunch and have the Vegan toasties, which I have to say is out of this world. It comes with a generous side salad garnish, with optional red onions or pesto. There is normally at least one other vegan option on the menu which will be a daily special. They sell Kizzy's Vegan cookies that go great with a coffee as a dessert option, or afternoon snack. Other cakes, croissants and pasteries available but the cookies are the only sweet available presently. The decor is shabby chic and the cafe sometimes hosts music and comedy nights, profits from which, go towards Abstinence and sobriety alcohol and drugs recovery. These nights are fantastic, especially in the summer time, when the events can spread out onto the street. The next event that I am aware of is on saturday 8th October 2016. This is going to be comedy night. There is also meditation every Sunday morning.
