- Somewhat disappointed...
I was in Panama city just for the weekend, and a friend made reservations here as I am vegan and was eating with 4 omnivores. I was impressed (by the reservation), as this restaurant would have been my first choice too—based on their description. However, most of the menu items are seafood-based (the menu isn't available on-line); and most of the vegetarian items (such as the risotto) contain cheese/dairy. They said they could make the mushroom risotto without cheese, but then, wouldn't it just be fried rice? So, I had the only item on the main menu that was vegan and contained protein — a rice noodle dish with tofu they claim is 'spicy'. To my dismay, the tofu was plain, barely cooked and soggy, the noodles had little flavour and all was doused in coconut milk. Not that I don't like coconut milk, but I was expecting spicy noodles, not coconut noodle stew (especially for the price they charge). I never waste food, but here, I did. It was almost sickening and I could not eat it. [(white) rice noodles, soft tofu cubes, and some snap peas in coconut milk with little other spices/flavour]. The appetizer however, was delicious. I had the quinoa-yam rolls which are a refreshing take on sushi. I wish I had ordered three plates of those and skipped the main course entirely!!! The seafood-eaters were impressed, but this is much more a seafood than vegetarian restaurant.
