• Oh no! Not veg-worthy!

I added Playa Azul to Happy Cow years ago after asking the owner and cook all the questions about how things are cooked. I must have miscommunicated, or things have changed. After eating there just now I saw the other review that stated the refried beans, rice, and ranchero sauce are cooked in chicken broth. I called the restaurant and verified that those items are in fact cooked in chicken broth. I am so sorry fellow HappyCow followers, I hope I have not misled others. Updated from my previous review after asking all the questions in 2015: Even if I am 20 minutes away in Soldotna, I make sure to stop at Playa Azul for a meal if I am in the area. Vegetarian menu items are so easily veganized, staff and cooks are so helpful, courteous and understanding, and the food is delicious. I have eaten at Playa Azul many times, and have always had a very positive, satisfying experience. Any of the vegetarian menu items without the cheese and sour cream have been excellent choices.
