  • Largest Buffet I Have Ever Seen!

WOW! What a gem! I felt privileged to have been taken to this place by a Thai friend. It is tucked away on a street tourists would rarely use. Hardly any farang (foreigners) seem to know about this place. Even the name is in Thai with no English (Not knowing Thai, I took the liberty of calling it the Market Buffet). If anyone knows Thai, please let us know what the name would be in English if there is an equivalent. It is obviously a huge hit with the Thai people as every time I have went there it has been loaded with people. It has a capacity for somewhere in the range of 200 to 300 people! And its popularity with the Thais is well deserved. It is by far the hugest selection I have ever seen at a buffet anywhere!!! Right down to have a whole section of single spices that you can grind together in a bowl with a pestle. Another example of the selection available. I thought I would have some tofu with my meal. I come to a section that has about 8 different tofu’s from firm to soft to a variety of flavors. Because of the large turn over the food is super fresh!! You are likely to find lots of foods that you have never seen before. If you are fortunate enough to be there with someone Thai that knows English they can tell you what you are getting into. If not, have fun exploring some new taste sensations!! Tables of sweets available. For any of you that are lacto-ovo-vegetarians there are quail’s eggs as well as ice cream. As if all that is not already impressive enough, I could not believe it the first time I was there when they brought us the bill. The cost of the entire buffet for one person was only 239 Baht ($7 US)!!!! The only drawback was more of a slight inconvenience. I was there with a friend that enjoyed meat and seafood (which they also have a huge selection of). Because there was only one cooking pot at our table, it meant her waiting until we had cooked all the veggie ingredients before she cooked the meats and seafood. Non-issue if you are there with more people as there would be more than one cooking station. Note: More than ½ the tables are out in the open. So on a hot sunny day or a rainy day, you may want to time it to get there when there are still tables available that are under the shelters.
