When you are wandering in a hungry daze after eating combini potato chips all day (or onigiri if you're lucky), finding Cosme will be like stumbling upon an oasis in the dessert. We were able to come here over the NYE holidays, when every other vegan place in Kyoto seems to be closed or hold bizarre opening hours, for which I am very grateful! To find it, enter the "Cube" mall below Kyoto Station and go down to floor B2F. If you have descended the stairs from the street behind the coin lockers or the escalators from the station, turn left and head down the hallway. You will be surrounded by clothing stores - do not despair, you are on the right path! The cafe will be 3/4 of the way down the hall on the left, close to the JR entrance. From 10-11:30 they have a breakfast menu, and the from 11:30-17:00 they have two set lunch options (today, deli lunch or curry lunch). Dinner is served from 17:00 to 20:00. The deli lunch vegan option today was a soy bolognese main with veggie amaranth and corn salad sides, accompanied by brown rice and tea or coffee. Their drinks include smoothies, raw and otherwise, juices, fair trade organic coffee, herb teas, various coffee drinks (eg hazelnut caramel latte), and organic sodas. A set lunch with sides and included drinks is about 1000¥. Not mind blowing, but a good safe bet in Kyoto station.
