  • Nice restaurant but food just okay

Went to Indochine for the first time about 2 months after their opening. The location is in the busiest part of the mission district, near BART and many bus lines, with metered street parking -- but finding a spot would be hard most times. Inside, the restaurant is quite nice for a casual place. It's a pretty relaxing environment, and the best part is they provide real chopsticks, not the disposable wooden ones. There's seating for around 40. The service was good, not superb but not problematic either. They seem to have plenty of staff but slightly disorganized. I'm sure they'll continue to figure this out. For the food, we saw a few really appetizing dishes come out -- stone pot rice, cheesecake. We also saw some other dishes that weren't disgusting but weren't great either -- crispy spring rolls, teriyaki "chicken", chow fun. Those lacked a bit in flavor, presentation, and proper cooking of all the ingredients. So, it seems like some of the menu is worth going back for while other dishes I would not get again. Next time I'll look for something that comes in a stone pot! In addition to the core pan-asian dishes, they have small Western and Sushi sections on the menu. That definitely seemed strange as there are better restaurants for those down the street; it might serve them well to narrow the focus and spend time refining each of their offerings. Many dishes on the menu were very very similar to some I've seen at other vegan asian restaurants in SF, like Golden Era and Loving Hut. While not dirt cheap it's definitely affordable, and I'll be back to try other things.
