- Affordable, Enjoyable Dim Sum
Dim Sum Shop is a clever idea for a city exploding with specialized and innovative restaurants. It's clever, because by mass producing, and focusing on, Dim Sum, they've made it affordable. Also by selling them uncooked, they're expanding the options and allowing more Israelis to be introduced to Dim Sum in their own homes. First to the Dim Sum. There are 7 types of vege Dim Sum. None are spectacular, but some are very good. Our favorite was the mushroom Gyoza which was filled with real Shitakis! We also liked the stir fried Vege Gyoza and the Spinach/Peanut Shumai. What separated the Spinach shumai from being great was that the spinach was instant. if it was fresh and had more of a texture, it would have had an added dimension. For appetizers we tried the Wakame Salad and Isan Noodle Salad. Both were basic and unimaginative. If you like the flavor of Wakame, you'll like the Wakame, but the term "salad" is a bit of a stretch as it is 95% unflavored Wakame. The Isan Noodles tasted like cold noodles in sweet chili. We also tried the Fun Noodles. According to the English Menu it was supposed to come in a curry coconut sauce, but it came in a sweet chili instead. When I went to return it, there weren't any other options besides a soy based sauce. It tasted okay, but wasn't anything special. I think the menu was unintentionally tricky. Overall, this place is all about the Dim Sum, but offers a few additional choices for those not in the mood. The Dim Sum Shop is a great place to make (or take out and steam at home) an affordable meal, mixing and matching the different types of Gyoza, Koyo, and Shumai, with the different sauces, until you find the little edible treasure chests you like the best.
