  • Hidden veggie gem!

Veggie has become one of my favorite spots in Helsinki. The owners - Greek-born brothers - are super friendly. Surprise them by saying "Jassu" (hello! in Greek) and you'll get an extra-large smile. My favorite dish the gluten-free savory pies (with some secret sauce making them so juicy) are always available. Lunch menu is changing weekly. When there's veggie moussaka on the list, some people call in advance to make reservations! Soups (often vegan) are great too. The carrot-coconut cake is vegan and goes well with green tea, but I usually fall for the nutty chocolate cake... The decor is beautiful combining light taverna kind of chairs and nice little things collected from flea-markets. The characteristic wooden wall and side service table are self-made of recycled materials. Large windows give to the terrace, which baths on the late afternoon sun. There's also a big park, beach and the famous Alvar Aalto house & studio in the neighborhood. Not located in the center of Helsinki but very well connected with tram number 4 + several busses. Still a hidden gem, but has huge potential in becoming very popular. Updated from previous review on Friday November 14, 2014
