radish cake - made inhouse and fried to order. chunky, generous helpings. i enjoyed it. fried vermicelli - noodles too dry, rather bland. the only moisture seemed to come from the cabbage and tofu puffs. was told they use less oil than elsewhere but one can request for more if preferred. *working in wanchai, i have no lack of choice in terms of vegetarian and veg-friendly eateries. there are some days when i just want a cheap and simple dinner on the way home - and that's where jane bean juice comes into the picture. unless you're satiated from snacks, dim sum and dessert, their main dishes are mostly one-plate/bowl rice or noodles. (check out their website for sections of their menu. i've also uploaded a photo of their menu here.) i found the menu rather confusing, with three variants of "noodles with mixed vege" (A, B, and one with neither A/B!). if you ask, they have another menu card specifically to tell you the difference between A and B; i think one has more mock meats than the other. i chose the one with neither alphabet, which consisted of noodles (a choice of buckwheat, udon, ramen or rice noodle), lettuce, corn, zucchini, carrot, pickled veg, and fake ham. it was $42 for a bowl of noodles and a glass of soybean, a steal for dinner in wanchai. being greedy and craving more vitamin c, i ordered another plate of fried cabbage with ginger ($20), which was delicious and had enough kick but was a little too salty for my taste, as was my observation of the noodles, probably because of the pickled veg. i asked the male staff member if msg was added. he confirmed that it wasn't, but that i could request for less salt in future. some customers came just for the bean curd pudding. i will try that next time. 3.5 stars.
