  • One of the First and Still One of the Best

Back in the day when I was a grad student here in Vienna, this was one of the few vegetarian places in the whole city. I am thrilled that it's still here, and better than ever. You can order the "plate of the day", which consists of a main dish and three salads of your choice, or just do a la carte salad plates, soups, fresh juices, and lovely pastries, all made out of whole-grain spelt flour. A lot of things on the menu are gluten free (none of the pastries though, sadly, because I remember them fondly from my pre-GF student days)and everything is clearly indicated as being vegetarian or vegan. Everything is self-service and there's quite a bit of seating outside in the summer, and a few seats inside in the winter. You can also do take-away. The description says that reservations are required, but that's not the case. You can just come - though in the winter you might end up having to wait a bit for a seat. If you're staying in Vienna for a few days and need to stock up on gluten-free items, they have a few in the health food store part of the shop ("Reformhaus" means "health food store").
