  • New addition to U Street shopping: groceries!

If you live around here, you know it can be a challenge to find affordable vegan staples for your pantry. It could require a bus, train, shared car or walk. However, the further you have to travel the less likely you are to get all that you need when using transport other than a car. Thus, this TJ's is great to have another option for another neighborhood! The parking is a challenge around here because there are so many hip places. They did well to create a parking garage. Bike parking not as friendly, for some reason. Go inside and there is ample produce gracing you from stacked, organized fruit collections of organic, nonorganic, local and not so local. If price is your concern, no concern here! If being organic- you're good. They have some local stuff, too, but not as much as the local farmer's markets, of course. The ready made food selection is also pretty decent with hummus wraps, salads, burritos, 'sushi' and the like. There are a lot of fake meats in the refrigerated and freezer sections, plenty of staples like nuts, dried fruit, pasta, rice, nondairy milk and snack foods like chips and salsa. If you need it, they probably have some version here in this great space for a TJ's!
