We visited Carrot Express several times over the course of a week. There are many items clearly identified on the menu as vegetarian or vegan. But, the staff seemed uncertain as to what was actually vegan. Items such as "Organic Tofu Marinated in Soy Ginger Sauce," "Falafel with Tahini Sauce" are identified on the menu as "vegetarian," not "vegan." A dish identified as "Sausage Vegan Bowl," was marked as both vegetarian and vegan. What made the difference? It was hard not to assume that it was the optional sauces, Cilantro-Lime/Soy Ginger. Was there honey in them? When we asked the employee taking orders at the counter, she checked with someone and came back and said that they were all vegan. It didn't make sense to us that the menu seemed to be so specific (normally, a good thing) but, apparently, so misleading, if not inaccurate. So, moral of this story is check when you order. I did have the Sausage Vegan Bowl (without the sauce, just in case) and it was quite good. Very nicely done brown rice with lots of perfectly-cooked kale and slightly spicy sausage. They freshly squeeze juice and offer a variety of smoothies. The "B-52" (carrot, celery, beet, ginger and cucumber) juice was very good but very heavy on the ginger. The second time I ordered it, I asked that they go light on the ginger and it was perfect. Nothing on the menu, however, about the juices being organic. But, when I asked, they said that they do use organic veggies. I am skeptical. Bottom line: a very good option for veg food but ask questions.
