- A Delhi fave for wholesome meals, coffee, etc.
Café Turtle has been around for ages as a very popular destination for the local literati and the expat community alike. The menu is primarily lacto-veg, but there are several vegan options and others that can be veganized on request. Vegan items aren't marked on the menu, unfortunately, but the servers are happy to advise guests on which items can be done vegan (though you might want to emphasize that your vegan request is for every item on the plate, e.g. not just the pasta but also the garlic bread that comes with it). They serve fresh juices and smoothies as well as good coffee (all the usual suspects). There's both indoor dining and a pleasant outdoor seating area. Pricing is moderate (especially considering the upscale location), but some of the portions are on the small side, which makes certain dishes slightly expensive, but generally worth it for the quality. My only complaint is that, in addition to having a somewhat limited selection of vegan options, there are also very few gluten-free options for cooked meals, so if you're both vegan and avoiding gluten, there isn't much that fits the bill (other than soups, salads, and smoothies). Café Turtle is located on the top floor of Full Circle bookstore at Khan Market. There are now (as of Feb 2014) two other locations (see their website), but this one is the original. They also do vegetarian catering. Enjoy!
