In general, Box Hill is full of surprises for veg*ns. I don't often travel out there but I had some business to attend to at Box Hill Centrelink and needed a quick lunch beforehand. Water Drop Teahouse is right round the corner and it delivered on cheap, fast, vegan food. The cafe is spanking clean and a little too sterile for my liking. On the ground floor of the temple, it feels a bit like eating in a hotel foyer. They have a small menu of a few soups and noodle dishes plus a daily rotating special with rice which is also served with a little bowl of wonton soup, a few fried yam rolls, and a few pieces of fruit, all for $10.50. The sides were a nice surprise especially given the dish I ordered wasn't extraordinary. I had the mock char siew pork which was served lukewarm with some sweet barbecue sauce. The rice was, as mentioned in the previous review, crunchy, dry, and also not really warm. None of the dishes were highly spiced, which is what you expect from temple food. All in all, the food was average and a little bland. I was happy with my meal but don't think I'd go back again, especially given the other veg*n options in the area.
